And I have often - also more recently - donated tickets for productions that I have deemed not worth traveling into Phidelphia to view. Great programming in a beautiful hall that's easy to get to. What more could you want? I took in the Haydn/Handel/Bach concert this weekend and left inspired and grateful to have this gem of an institution in my city. A few things I love: 1) Community rush tickets. Being a subscriber doesn't make sense for my lifestyle (maybe someday!) and since I am someone who doesn't really care where I sit, utilizing the $25 community rush tickets is perfect for me. It keeps me engaged with the orchestra without having to commit to a large price tag or specific show dates. 2) Staff at the Kimmel Center is SO friendly and helpful. 3) I like taking my little $16 cup of wine into the hall with me and sip sipping as I listen to the music. 4) The orchestra sounds great from everywhere in this hall. I look forward to my next trip!

Why NO Chardonnay, NO Pinot Grigio? That's just pathetic. The Kimmel needs to upgrade their Pre-theater offerings! The quality of the theater itself was also pretty underwhelming, as their second screen is really just a rec room with a projector and choir risers. What a delight! I bought my ticket for SUFFS at the box…read moreoffice. Yes, I got lucky! This is a popular play. What a wonderful opportunity to be educated on the American sufferage movement. It was a delight to see that so many local women were involved and their stories are reflected in this play today. I am happy to get the Playbill souvenir and a SUFFS pin. THE STAFF WAS VERY NICE. I'm very grateful to the sweet people working here. From the theater, attendants, concession snack stand, security, box office, merchandise, and the restrooms too. My chocolate chip cookie was yummy. Everybody's very kind and hard-working. It was an absolutely wonderful time in this beautiful theater. It was my first time to be in the theater and it's very beautiful. The set design was quite exciting. The seats were very comfortable. And I'm very glad that there was parking in a garage very close to this theater!

Even after the performance, people were hanging around just to look at the theater and take it all in. Staff eventually had to usher people out because no one wanted to leave. I arrived a little late because I went to the wrong venue, and the staff was incredibly kind and calm about it. They walked me to my seat between sets and made it totally stress free. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and professional. The place is clean and very well maintained. One thing to watch out for is seat selection. In the balcony, some seats have a pole partially blocking the view of the stage, which is frustrating if you do not realize it ahead of time. Definitely double check before buying. I loved the live subtitles for the opera. Such a thoughtful touch and makes the whole experience much more accessible. The chandeliers are gorgeous, the atmosphere feels grand but not stuffy, and the whole night felt special. Fully worth the money and I would absolutely come back.

Could the ingress and throughways inside be managed better when the crowd is sardines in a can? Sure. Can every experience in life be "more" or "better" if we're being extra picky, eventually turning those same experiences into a sterile, "will never offend anyone," suburb-coded "I come into the city once in a while for a good show but I hate the parking situation" experience? Yes. But not the the TLA, no. The TLA is Philly as hell. It's not there to give you extra-wide seats or a pinky off the champagne glass kind of vibe. It's there to be affordable. It's there to connect you with all sorts of different people there to see the same great show. And it's there to remind you that sometimes, sticky sweaty is the way to go. In the TLA, we're rawdogging sweaty air and great acts. It's where you go to see the acts that come through town where everyone who shows up REALLY wanted to show up - the performers because they're not stadium famous, and the attendees because they love those same performers all up in their bones. Things might be tight in the venue, but there's always room for fun and dancing.
