Today it contains museums, the Olympic Ring from the 1992 Olympic Games, a castle, gardens, a fountain, cable car, and more. A tour guide drove my husband and me to this park. We enjoyed the panoramic views of the city buildings and the sea. Our tour guide explained that a Jewish cemetery was built into the hill. Overall, I would not call Parc de Montjuic a must-see, but it was nice to see.

Even though I've visited the Barcelona area about a dozen times, this was my first time at Tibidabo, and I was glad to share this experience with my husband and my brother's family. If you're planning a trip to Barcelona, this is a definite spot to visit at least once in your lifetime. It was well worth my 15 year wait! The top of Tibidabo is crowned by the Cathedral del Sagrat Cor. This church was constructed between 1902 and 1960 in a mixture of modernista and neogothic styles. It's also home to the Tibidabo Amusement Park built in 1889. You might recognize views of Tibidabo in international films like Vicky Christina Barcelona.

BARCELONA RUNNING TOURS ...a running tour of one of Europe's most beautiful cities ...what a…read moreterrific idea! I love to run. I am especially exciting to run/explore when visiting a new city. But, how does one get the lay of the land? When sees something interesting, how does one know what he's looking at? I suppose for a little background before embarking on one's run, he could bury his head in guidebook maps or hop on a tour bus. But while a bus can be an efficient means of exploring, these rides are often cookie-cutter-impersonal and I find it all too frustrating to passively sit atop a bus watching a beautiful city just roll by below me when I could be in the thick of it all. This is why I was so excited when BARCELONA RUNNING TOURS appeared on my iPad screen as a pop-up ad after booking my trip. I requested a tour via e-mail and got a quick response offering a variety options to personalize the tour to my interests and running preferences, The email also offered helpful recommendations so the options never got to be too overwhelming). I booked my 90-minute tour. My guide, Robin, met me just outside my hotel at the specified time. He was friendly, accommodating, and very knowledgable. As we trotted through the city's most famous and beautiful neighborhoods, he pointed out landmarks, showed me the most efficient and picturesque paths to get to them. He offered details about the various sites and neighborhoods, but this was not just some local expert spouting answers to common FAQ's. This was a discussion, friendly and conversational. At times, it seemed as if Robin reshaped the tour on the spot based on on the direction of our dialogue. I asked about live musical performances, Robin pointed out a jazz clubs and concert halls. When we discussed Spanish-Jewish culture, he led me to the Jewish Quarter. And talk about accommodating! ...He packed water for the two of us. He offered to take photos along the way on his iPhone. As our time was waning, he graciously extended our tour by an additional hour. At the end of the run, he offed tourist info from backpack. Within hours of the end of our tour, he e-mailed me photos along with suggestions for restaurants, shopping experiences and even books based on the topics that came up during our run. And the benefit of my BARCELONA RUNNING TOUR did not end there. Robin made himself available via email through the remainder of my week in Spain offering answers to additional questions and personal recommendations based on my taste and location in the city. He even emailed a personalized map detailing the location of a small street I was trying to find. Had BARCELONA RUNNING TOURS delivered an enjoyable 90-minute running excursion, I would have been plenty satisfied with an invigorating and entertaining introduction to a beautiful city. We finally figured out our English tour guide meeting location where we met others on our tour. When we walked over to La Sagrada Familia Basilica our English tour guide distributed audio headsets. This UNESCO marvel offers more than just breathtaking views. It is Gaudí's unfinished masterpiece, a basilica full of symbolism and architectural brilliance. The La Sagrada Familia Basilica in Barcelona has been under construction for over 140 years. Our English tour guide shared its fascinating history, from its beginnings to the ambitious goal of completing it in 2033. The La Sagrada Familia Basilica will be the highest building in Barcelona and the highest church in the world with a height of 172 meters. La Sagrada Familia Basilica is very impressive from its size, both outside and especially from the inside with the many colored glass windows with the sun shining through during our 4-5 PM audio tour. I feel this was a great time of day to experience La Sagrada Familia. This should be your #1 place to visit in Barcelona. The playground here is beautifully maintained and has some magnificent views. One star off because there was garbage all around and the dirt paths got us all dusty.

I must admit, riding Vespas (scooters) was WAY out of my comfort zone. We rented 2 Vespas-the first day we went we got the 50cc scooters and the second day we got the 125s. My husband and friend's husband drove and we were passengers. I'm kind of a scaredy cat but we wore helmets and I quickly got used to riding. There are so many people in the city on scooters that I felt safe and the other drivers on the streets were very aware of each other. The people that work there were super helpful, went over everything, and even mapped out routes for us. We had a Barri Gotic route, a beach route, olympic village route and a mountain route among others. We so enjoyed riding through the city streets, saw things we wouldn't have seen, and enjoyed the views. Make sure you get an international driver's license, you must have this to ride these. (My husband and friend had done this through AAA for $15-easy process-before we left the States). Highly recommend this company!

One of the larger resorts north of Barcelona on the Maresme coast, Arenys is a popular place with…read morelocals in the summer, thanks to a long beach and a large harbour and marina. It's one of the more interesting resorts on this otherwise rather dull coast, though to be honest that is not saying much. However, the main drawback is that the town is (alas) completely cut off from its beach by the combination of the busy N11 road and the railway line and station, which rather spoil the overall feel of the place, and certainly makes for a very unprepossessing welcome. Cross the N11 and walk into town a little, and things pick up a bit: the older parts date from the 16th century, and consist of a group of narrow streets, with an 18th century watchtower, and a 16th century church. This is the town's main highlight, as the florid 18th century baroque altarpiece is reckoned to be one of the best pieces of this style of sculpture in Catalonia. It's situated off the tree-lined main street which leads from the seafront (it's known as the Riera - a sort of Rambla, but it's not quite as attractive as it sounds, thanks to lots of traffic and parked cars). Opposite the church, in a modernista-style building, is an impressive market selling fresh produce. Other attractions include a museum of lace-making, and Los Baños de Can Titus, a spa hotel which offers various thermal treatments. Like most Catalan towns, there is a sprinkling of modernista-style buildings, though none is especially notable. The harbour offers rather more attractive prospect, with a modern marina full of expensive yachts located next to the more traditional fishing port. The substantial daily catch supplies several good fish restaurants in the harbour area. Practicalities Arenys is under an hour from Barcelona by train on the suburban line north to Blanes, with trains every half hour off-peak, and every ten minutes in the rush hour. Tickets are very cheap - around EUR3 for an adult single. By car, take the N11 north from Barcelona via Mataro, but, be warned that it is built up for almost the entire route, with concomitant endless speed restrictions, and traffic slows to a complete crawl at busy periods and weekends. A slightly less terrifying alternative is the C-32 motorway, but this also gets very busy, and coping with the poor lane discipline of other drivers which seems to plague this road, requires nerves of steel. Once you get there, there's an underground car park at the end of the Rambla. My advice would be to take the train... Accommodation options include campsites (slightly out of town) and some traditional hotels and pensions in town. The majority of visitors are, however, day-trippers from Barcelona. Most package tourists will end up staying further north in the Costa Brava.
