I'm here with my friends for Yacht Rock Hat Day. The hat is amazingly well constructed awesomeness. However, the player's walk up music leaves much to be desired, especially Jordan Westburg. Westburg walks up to very sad music that has been played on 105.7 the X for the last 20 years. Someone so young should have more joy in their heart than "I Alone," which btw is a horrible song for team sports. On such a Momentous occasion, one should play Billy Caldwell or Michael McDonald. I think someone needs to call crisis; Westburg is obviously at risk. read more

At one time, I had season tickets to the Baltimore Orioles when they moved into Camden Yards 1997. In fact, that year I enjoyed my first MLB Allstar Game. The Baltimore Orioles were also known as the O's, and for some they called them the "Birds". The Club I believe was originally spent its first year as a major league club in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, as the Milwaukee Brewers before moving to St. Louis, Missouri, to become the St. Louis Browns in 1902. After fifty-two years in St. Louis, the franchise was purchased in November 1953 by a collective group of Baltimore business and civic interests led by Clarence Miles and Mayor Thomas D'Alesandro Jr. Today, the team's current owner is American trial lawyer Peter Angelos. After several years of having first-round draft picks, the Orioles have assembled a competitive team that is presently leading their division. It was exciting to be back in the Ball Park after a long absent stretch. The energy in the stadium and the surrounding Pubs is energetic with all ages of baseball fans. Despite being ranked in the bottom third of MLB in terms of wins and losses (at the time of writing this review), the Baltimore Orioles have actually won three World Series titles. Those came in 1966, 1970, and 1983. Really, it wasn't until the late 90s that the Os entered a long stretch of mostly losing seasons. The team had 14 straight losing seasons from 1998 to 2011 and they set dubious records in recent years such as 2018, for most losses in team history, and 2019, setting the single-season league record for most home runs allowed. The Os are named after the state bird of Maryland, but they actually started out as the Milwaukee Brewers in 1901 (not the same Brewers we know today) and soon after became the St. Louis Browns. It wasn't until 1954 that the team moved to Baltimore and became known as the Orioles. Some of the Os' best players (and all Hall of Famers) played for the team decades ago. They include Brooks Robinson (1955-1977), Frank Robinson (1966-1971), "Steady Eddie" Murray (1977-1988), Jim Palmer (1965-1967, 1969-1984), and "The Iron Man" Cal Ripkin Jr. (1981-2001). I, along with most sports fans today, associate Cal Ripkin Jr. with the Orioles. He holds the record for most consecutive games played at 2,632 games, starting May 30, 1982 and ending September 19, 1998. Incredible. The Os' last World Series appearance was that 1983 championship. They did make the playoffs three times in the 2010s (2012, 2014, 2016), making it as far as the ALCS in 2014, but they got swept by the Kansas City Royals, 4-0. Three-time AL Manager of the Year, including in 2014, Buck Showalter, managed the Os during that relatively successful stretch (2010-2018). Baltimore has been rebuilding since under current GM Mike Elias who also serves as the team's Executive Vice President. It will be interesting to see where the Orioles go under Elias' direction. read more

The beginning of the magical rebuilds, Camden shines as the genesis of the new park era. New and old city rises beyond the walls, and this 1992 retro-classic is an instant classic of MLB stadiums. Easy parking factor: park-and-ride is a good option, but otherwise you can walk a half-mile+ to avoid very expensive downtown spaces. The distance parking is a safe option with all the fans around you walking back pre-/post-game. Cheap ticket factor: 46K seats help the ticket aftermarket provide plenty of seats under $20. No need to splurge for field level if you're worried about a good view; you'll be in good shape anywhere. Welcoming factor: Easy walk from most places downtown, or take the train. This is a fan's dream stadium, thankfully taking it seriously but okay with introducing the newer fan to the sport. It's all about the game, just try to coexist with those Red Sox fans when they're in town. Food factor: Chicken Satay, Pigtown Stack, oysters and of course crabcakes accompany the normal baseball stadium fare at Camden. You can also grab plenty to eat/drink around the stadium pre and post-game. Move freely about the cabin factor: so many great views await all around if you decide to take that post-6th inning stroll. Amazing skyline views, as you're right in the city, and get some great pics down close if you're into standing-room near field level. Little kid souvenir factor: great near-field spots pre-game to grab some visiting-team signatures, and generally this is a perfect spot for memory-making. The House that Cal Built still sizzles, even with a few down years sprinkled in, and it's worth heading to the harbor to catch a game or two here. read more

But we're rating the Orioles today. And honestly, they played poorly getting beaten 5-3 by the Boston Red Sox. Lots of players left on base. No errors (the Sox made one). They were just outplayed. I'm a Yankees fan - always have been, always will be (though we'll disregard how awful they've been so far this year). That said, I'm also a bit of a ballpark chaser, so I make it a point to visit stadiums whenever possible. Seeing the Orioles play at Camden Yards has always been one of my favorite experiences, and I've been fortunate enough to sit in different parts of the stadium for games. There's no bad view, honestly. I've also recently had the good fortune of having seats on the Club Level, which is pretty fantastic. There's a Boog's Barbeque on the Club Level (which is great, because the line for the one on Eutaw Street was really long from basically the time the gates opened), as well as a variety of other concessions and lounges. Seeing so much of the memorabilia from Orioles history is also pretty great. And yes, it's hard to beat the view from those seats. TL;DR Love Camden Yards and watching the Orioles play. Disappointed by the prices of water and beverages. They charge $5 for a single bottle of water. I can understand making a profit but that's a bit ridiculous. (Apparently you can buy from the street vendors by the entrance to the park, but they gave my wife a hard time bringing in a drink that my daughter had) The stadium is decent but feels a bit old. We live with our teams and we somehow, incredibly "die" with our teams. Though nothing changes in our real day to day lives rather they win or lose it somehow matters deeply to us. I see this in myself and my son. I can remember a time last year when following a particularly wicked Dallas Cowboy loss we both literally cried (he 15 and I 45 at the time). Yet this is about the Orioles, our local underachievers, who every now and then strive mightily. They will beat the Yankees and then drop three to Toronto. But you have to step back and remember that our sports teams ( and the heroes as well as the goats) give us something to bond over. Something to pin our hopes against, something to hang our dreams on. A chance for those few moments of escape from whatever thing that life has on your shoulders that day. When they perform badly it is something harmless to gripe about. When they reach the heights we get to go along for the ride. Sports should allow us to as Kipling asks of those who would be men; "to meet with triumph and disaster and threat these two imposter's just the same." It is not the winning or losing that matters, that is a hard lesson to learn and many of us never get it. Those who suffer the most when the cheering has stopped are those who confused sports success with self worth. We lost my father in 2006 and he was a huge baseball fan, had played with some of the negro league players and even in the Army during Korea ( See the movie A Soldier's Story with Harold Rollins...Excellent). He spent the last couple of years of life in a nursing home. He and my son would talk sports, specifically baseball. I always marvelled at how that silly national pastime provided that common ground and bridge for three generations of my family to interact across the gulf of space and time and absent fathers and the hurt feelings that go with that. My Dad didn't take me to many ballgames, wasn't around that much. But, I have been given the opportunity to forgive him each time that I take my son to Camden Yards, each time I have a salty peanut and remember the story my father told me about them being bad luck. His team was preparing to play a game and the starting pitcher hopped the fence to go to the peanut cart...he tripped and broke his ankle. read more

This is my first Orioles experience, attending the game while on vacation from the west coast. The stadium is beautiful and my experience with the fans and staff was excellent. Five stars. Now let's get to the reason for the less than five star rating. I suffer from Celiac Disease (I cannot have any regular bread products without suffering serious health affects) and was excited to attend the game tonight and enjoy a couple of O dogs on gluten free (GF) buns. I had checked to see if GF food was available prior to purchasing the tickets and ate a light (early) meal to make room for the dogs. At the end of the fifth inning I went to the first "O What A Dog" stand, purchased the dogs and drinks, and was then told that they were out of GF buns. I received a refund and went to the next stand. I asked prior to standing in line and was told they had the GF buns, so I stood in line, and paid. Then (yep) was told they were out of GF buns. I then received a refund. On to the third stand (working my way around from third to first base side). No line, but again no GF buns. This was even more disappointing because last week I attended a Nationals game and had no problem getting two dogs on GF buns with a GF beer. For someone who cannot eat regular bread products, having GF products available to have a normal experience is priceless. Getting to the game and not having it available, extremely disappointing. SCORE BREAKDOWN: Stadium, Staff and Fans - 5 stars Availability of gluten free food as advertised - 1 star (really zero stars; the same as the amount of hot dogs on GF buns I was able to eat!) Still a favorite place of mine to see a game. Much more down to earth than the Nats stadium. The Nats motto for customers would be "Check your Ego at the door. Oh wait a minute, it's too big to fit in the coat check." The Orioles would be, "Check your eg- , your what? C'mon in hon!" One of my favorite things about the O's stadium (cuz it sure aint' the baseball) is that they will let you bring a SOFT cooler in. So I can bring in my own sandwiches and soda. Read all of this. On thurs we went to the Angels game against the Orioles. I took all my little ones. The game went 16 innings. We lost to the Orioles. As the night got late left fielder on the Orioles started fielding balls hit to him and giving them to the fans in the stands. Kids in angel jerseys went nuts and he would give them the balls hit by their hero's. So this guy, Smith Jr #35...I live by angel stadium, I go see angels games...but I am now a huge 35 fan and Orioles fan. The game went till 2am...and 35 never stopped playing 100% and never stopped honoring the kids in the stands. Those kids had angels colors on... I was amazed and happy. Thank you 35. Thank you for my kids too. I was barely able to hold it together because of your kindness to my kids. Your team should be proud of the job you do and your coaches and owners should be proud of your heart. Next time I see you playing in my town I'm buying tickets and I'm going to chat you up in front of all the red colors. Newish to the area+ Baseball season+ decent tickets= fun time! I really wanted to go to a game and found some pretty decent seats for $17 so some friends and I headed over for a fun afternoon. Sadly, it rained when we got there and the only real place to take cover before the game was the outside bathrooms, but that didn't damper our spirits. We got nice seats under an awning by the Tigers side and the section was a nice mix of Tigers and O's fans so that was nice for fair weather fans like ourselves. The concessions were the same pricing as any other stadium I've been in and the food was stadium food. Nothing special. I was hoping for a signature food/merch item that was all O's (Kind of like the Garlic Fries at the Giants stadium), but couldn't find anything or anyone who knew. I will try again next time. Overall a really fun experience. I am still deciding if I will root for the O's or the Nats, but it was a good spring day and I was very happy. read more

Dear Camden Yards, I have always enjoyed attending games at your ball park until today. As attendees line up to get in we waited patiently until we got to the person scanning tickets. She unfortunately did not know how to or could not scan electronic tickets. Instead of asking the guy next to her to can them for us she told us that we had to go to the beginning of the line. As we tried cutting our way back to the front on the line (5 of us) people began yelling at us thinking we were cutting in line. Before we made it too far another person scanning tickets noticed and said he could just scan our tickets. It created a horrible experience at the ball park literally before we even got in the gate. If you can't scan mobiles tickets then don't offer them. read more

Went to the Orioles v. Nats game last weekend to celebrate a friend's birthday and had an awesome time! The stadium is absolutely stunning and had a very vintage feel. I think the restrooms could be bigger since there were only 4 stalls in the ladies room. The concession had your typical baseball stadium food, but very well priced! I am talking about 1980s prices. The Nats were up by 1 point the entire game, and then the Orioles scored one home run at the 7th inning. Talk about a somewhat exciting game! read more

Food wise, the crab dip looks phenomenal; I was able to get some awesome nachos and a free refill of chips and jalapenos since it was slow. Bring your own meals along besides the hot chowdah. Outside of the stadium you can get a burger, brat, and beer all for less than $12. It's a great deal. read more

Absolutely love the O's, but like the Cowboy's owner, Mr.Angelos needs an enema. I regard the Styankees, Red Stocks, and the "Oreos" as the old guard of the silver age of baseball (60's-90's), and everyone else in the east as sideshows. As I like to educate the Did Astro fans, we won 3 World Series, the Sox five, and the Yankees a gaudy twenty seven; so sit down and shut up junior! I love the old time feel of Camden Yard, and their manager, Buck Showalter, was the architect of two different World Series teams. I ran into some NYers a few months ago, and they, although Yank fans, congratulated me/us on a good season, and agreed Buck is a good manager. The O's are the perfect team for me, because of their past and present history. They were the St. Louis Browns at one time. Their manager, Veck, suffering from poor play and poor attendance, once employed a three foot midget as a hitter to decrease the strike zone, and generate interest. That's the definition of humor; the ridiculous and the sublime. After they moved to B'more and became the O's the team got good and won their first WS in 1966. They had people such as Dave McNally, Boog Powell, and the playboy/ pretty boy Jim Palmer. In the words of a baseball analyst, Earl Weaver, was everything a baseball manager should be, " pugnacious, truculent, and florid". Not living in the past but hopefully, the worm will turn and the Birds will get a World Series. Unfortunately, running into another Baltimorean , we both agreed cheap skate Angelos will prolly get rid of the great Manny Muchado. My uncle was a scout for the Dodgers and I'd love to hear his opinion. Very hard but maybe one day we get good and drive the Nationals out of the area, like we did in 1970.
