Ugh this PLACE. Plenty of clothes and accessories to explore, but the store is huge and has tons of employees, yet somehow is messy, customers are totally ignored while they shop, and the staff are kind of surly if approached or at checkout. I did have the (mis?)fortune to hear a salacious fight between two employees while I was in the dressing room that gave me plenty to snark about with my shopping companion later. I can typically find something I'll like that fits well in their enormous sale area (but why why why is the vanity sizing so weird?!) and the men's clothes especially are quite good quality, but this place doesn't help that whole 'brick and mortar is dying' concern. One of the better Banana Republics in the area, featuring fairly extensive petites and accessories sections. This is the only Boston-area Banana Republic that I know of to have a large selection of clearance shoes during major sales. Usually the sales section is also bursting with choices. They change the layout of the store on a fairly regular basis, so you won't always find the sales and petites in the same place they were on your last visit. I understand this tactic from a marketing perspective--it gets people to browse more--but as an efficient shopper, it annoys me. You may have noticed I am very aware of the petites section at Banana Republic, despite standing a respectable 5'6". I have a fairly short torso and given the generous cuts of Banana Republic's clothing, actually require the petite in many of their tops and even some of their dresses. This is frankly ridiculous. I have this recurring dream where I walk into a party wearing a cool new shirt I just got, and people look at me funny and finally someone says 'mmm, is that a woman's shirt?' and I have to make up something like 'Oh yeah, I grabbed the wrong shirt this morning as I left so and so's apartment'. I thus have a phobia of wandering in on the woman's department in most stores, so half the time when I am shopping I am looking around like a frightened rabbit.. I came in here to look for a casual type of belt. They had a variety of choices but limited in the sizes offered. The customer service was great and even though the belt I chose didn't have an appropriate tag on it, they took the time to look it up in the system. Compared to other Banana Republic's I have shopped at, I would say the inventory at this location is a bit smaller than the average. I had totally forgotten about the fact that there is a Banana Republic in the Copley Square mall. This is really a great store. And I find it provides you with all the discounts and sales for which you won't have to drive all the way to the outlets. Here are some of the things I like about this store that make me an annual shopper, if not more - whenever I fancy: + Neat casual wear selection: They have quite a good mix of everything when it comes to casual wear. I especially like the denims and tend to find the sizes for me. Same is the case with polos and T shirts. + Great off season sales: Where I am not a big one to go looking for off season sales, but when the store is not super big, it is hard to miss what is on display. They do a great job with excellent off season sales. With up to 60% markdown on sweaters during summer time, that is a really good bargain. + Colognes: Off recently, I have come across some really good fragrances that Banana Republic has introduced. Being very selective about my colognes, I think they are doing a great job with the quality and the variety of notes; fragrances that suit for various moods / occasions. + Eye-wear: More often than not, I am not an impulsive shopper. But I do have some weaknesses. A smashing pair of shades would be one of them. During my last visit, I saw a great pair of sunglasses. BR was the last place where I was expecting to find such a beautiful pair. Despite the fact there isn't a large collection, sometimes that's better to make a quick decision. I rarely give five stars but this store was just that good! I came in for their 50 and then 40 deal and I gotta say the store looked good, was well staffed, and was generally easy to navigate! The associates were so eager to help me find sizes and suggest alternatives. I came in to buy a shit and got two shirts, jeans, and shoes! Overall a great store. if you need help just ask for it and the well dressed smile garnished chaps will greet you warmly. In general, I think the Banana has had an OFF year. But this store specifically, well, EVEN MORE off. I found nothing. I wasn't impressed by much. The staff was kinda around, more-so when we walked near the counter. The store was empty and nobody said a peep to us...I felt like we walked in after closing hours (we didn't). Worst of all, the dressing room was comparable to the hustle & bustle of downtown Baghdad. I went to try some pants on and found myself in a maze of twisted steel (clothing racks) and dismembered bodies (creepy mannequins). It was as if the staff had to clean the front of the store REAL QUICK so they threw everything in the back dressing rooms/halls to clean the clutter up front. Each dressing room was full of junk, except one--which happened to the be the FURTHEST down the war-torn hallway. I'm a 6'2" ___lb male, acrobatics ain't my game, son. read more

ok, back - to - back BR reviews.... Two vastly different stores though. Where as the one in Cambridge (see other reviews), stands aside for its employees, this one stands aside for the store itself (although no complaints about the employees) This is a Mens only store, which I like. It has a lot bigger selection, and lots of unique items compared to other BR stores. One of these, in Their Monogram suit line (which to my understanding, they only have at a few stores int he country) Much nicer suits, fabric, construction, etc than the normal suits. And a big suit section. Heck, just the suit section is bigger than the mens section at most BR stores! I never would have thought of getting suits at BR. But I had a coupon, and i went. Anywhere that carries Petites is good with me! This location has a good-sized petites selection (and I, too, am 5'0" and thin, so this is crucial to a non-frustrating shopping experience) and seems to carry everything Banana Republic makes. In general, Banana Republic seems to fit in with my style, which I like to think of as classic rather than boring, so I shop here when I can and ALWAYS hit the sales, which are usually fantastic. I bought a pair of great suede wedge heels for $30 in the after-Christmas sale. Can't beat that. As for this particular store, the help ranges from friendly associates who will chat with you about the store and run back and forth from the dressing room getting different sizes to the few I've run into who either pretend you're not there or one in particular to whom I had to ask for my size in a shoe three times before she actually got it (and no, the store wasn't busy...I was standing in the shoe section the whole time and she wandered around a bit and just never came back to me), but I've generally had good experiences here. read more

The selection is the large and they carry the different lines absent from other stores, like Monogram if that's within your budget. This rating is not so much for the store but for Mark. First of all, I really don't like clothes shopping. It's pretty low on my "fun things to do" list. That said, I had to find a blouse or a decent button-down to wear under my suit - a non-ruffled/frilly version, if possible. I wandered into BR because I couldn't find a plain buttondown in Gap. I didn't think I would have much luck, but it was late and I needed the shirt for the next day, so I could not go home empty handed. Mark found me wandering around with a variety of random blouses/shirts & started a fitting room for me. When I came out to ask my friend her opinion on one of the shirts, Mark came over to see how I was doing and after I told him my situation, it was like I had walked onto Queer Eye for girls. He took my size, walked out, and came back with a whole armful of things to try on. He was so helpful, honest, and all-in-all amazing. I walked out with a button down & a blouse (both from the sale section) and a wish to be able to take Mark wherever I went. I still hate shopping, but 5 stars for Mark & such wonderful service! read more

While the styles at BR have lately been more than disappointing for me, I will always check in here for work clothes. Traditionally, their clothes are tailored enough for my conservative job, and the quality allows me to wear them for years. Boring, maybe for some. But I tend to think of it as classic, simple lines that will never go out of style. Now, if they could just stop making all skinny "work pants", Bermuda shorts, and sheer tops, we'd be all set. There is a fantastic selection at this store whether you are looking for casual wear, suits, petite, shoes, ect. They also seem to always have a great selection of sale items. They even have a separate section for petite sale. The staff is always incredibly friendly and helpful. This is my favorite Banana Republic. The store is huge, and they always have a great selection (as opposed to Newbury which, while smaller, doesn't always have a lot of things that this Copley location has in stock). The main reason I gave this location 5 stars is because every time I go in there I get treated really well. Their staff is personable, engaging, and friendly. I look forward to coming here knowing that I will be receiving excellent customer service. (As an aside, I cannot bear to shop at any Ann Taylor or Loft stores simply because their staff is rude and acts as though I am undeserving of having the privilege to afford their overpriced clothing). I'd so much rather spend my money at Banana where customer service and loyalty are valued first and foremost. I just dropped by the Copley store to just look around. I was planning on just ordering my cloths online. When I was told that they were doing 40% then 10% off in store, I was sold. I made some purchases and was happily on my way. When I asked for a hanger and garment bag I associate that run me up said I was asking for a lot. Five stars for a chain? Yes, when it carries such a huge petites section and has such amazing sales. And the staff! I was in here just yesterday and even though I was all sweaty from a long bike ride and kind of looked like a homeless lady with my giant backpack, they were incredibly friendly and helpful to me. And, they weren't pushy--just helpful. It's a fine line, people. I encountered Mark as well--he was in the dressing rooms, managing the manic traffic with aplomb and good cheer. The styles here are what they are--fairly conservative but elegant, great for work. I was looking for a dress to wear to a wedding and nothing quite worked--either stuff was really bright (and no one wants to be the ho-bag at the wedding in the bright red dress) or waaay too conservative. But for classic wardrobe staples, BR is a great, affordable option and this store in particular is the link in this chain that I like to patronize. read more

This has been my favorite BR store in the Boston area for the last 8-9 years- always get good finds and run into amazing customer service. It took me a while to get used to the new store layout but I'm grateful for the larger petite section. I've shopped at all the BR stores in the Boston/Cambridge area including going out of town to Natick Mall. (Don't drive all the way there- it's a waste of gas and time. Where I go for all my basic office work attire. Sure this place doesn't inspire you to be the diva you want to be but that's what the weekend is for. BR is a weekday in the office people, especially during the winter when all your creative juice is zap and you only want to go in with some warm wool trousers and a cardigan. Where else can you find reasonable wool trouser that can fit your 5 feet frame and not have to have it hem. It helps SOOO much that they carry petite sizes! read more

When I want to shop at Banana Republic, I head over to Copley. The store associates are extremely friendly and helpful. I like the layout of the store (unlike the one on Newbury St that is four levels where you are constantly running up and down stairs). They usually have the sizes I am looking for; if they don't have a size, they are prompt in helping me locate the size from the back or at another store. The selection is great, and this store is always clean and organized. read more

i am a big fan of BR, so i had high hopes when we dragged jeffrey on here to find slacks. we were not successful, but i still like the store. i don't think i had ever been to this branch, as i usually make a beeline for BR women's at copley, but it was your standard BR, with a office/formal lean. lots of dark colors, and a few accessories. the staff wasn't in your face, and i liked that. it can get overwhelming at chain stores when they try to shove their credit card down your throat. i'm glad that they didn't do that here. although jeffrey didn't get his slacks, i got a cute shirt for josh, with the help of my portable model, daniel. thanks handsome! come here for holiday presents, interview clothes and sweaters to wear to grandma's for chirstmas dinner. maybe not the best destination for the perfect bar hopping pants though... read more

This is an excellent Banana Republic - it's huge, they have a great selection of clothes, accessories and shoes, and always seems to have fresh things on the floor. My only complaint is that the service is inconsistent. I've had very helpful assistance from staff and I've also been treated with complete disdain for asking to try on a pair of shoes. I am sure BR staff isn't paid terrifically well, but this is a high-end mall so it seems that the staff should perhaps try to be competitive with the sales staff at neighboring stores. The largest and most diverse selection of any Banana store in Boston, but the employees are so hard to handle! You either get the over-eager employees who follow your throughout the store trying to help you with every little thing you do, or the ones who only care about you if you have a huge pile of expensive leather and denim that they know you are going to buy. I can't stand walking in to this store, and usually don't. I'll have other stores have things sent from the Copley store to another location for me. read more

Banana use to be one of the first stores I'd always check out when going to Copley. However, I feel it has changed for the worst these past few years. Banana was always expensive to me, but at the time some of the clothes there seemed worth it. That's hardly the case lately...I really haven't been impressed with any of the new styles they've come up with. If you need something business casual, you can easily go somewhere else that is much cheaper, and has just as more to choose from. The last thing I bought at Banana was a white tank top, which cost me $24....That was pretty ridiculous. The only reason I bought it was because I was in a hurry and needed one right away. read more

I've always been a fan of BR but this one beats them all, thanks to their large petite section! Hardly over five feet tall, I've come to accept that I won't often experience that "fits you like a glove feeling" when clothes shopping. Here, I know that feeling! i dont like banana. they are the epitome of boring. you look up boring in the dictionary and there's a picture of someone wearing banana clothes. my friend m has had a gift certificate to this place for over a year so we always go in (to the mens side but i still look at womens as well occasionally) and he can never find anything and i see the boring womens ones and go ugh. over the years, ive never bought anything here because as well as being boring, they dont fit. theyre too big. read more

BR at Copley recently moved to a new location within the mall that is larger than the original. It has a great selection of merchandise but the customer service needs improvement. The staff constantly appears in disarray and clueless, including management. On two separate occasions this week, there was a long line with 8-10 customers, only 2 cashiers ringing and several associates just chatting and sorting merchandise back and forth behind the register. The manager and cashiers had no sense of urgency and how to manage a long line. It is always chaotic and frustrating to checkout or get customer assistance at this location. If you have lots of time and patience, it's the place to shop. read more

I love to shop at Banana Republic - just NOT AT THIS STORE! The store is well maintained and has an impressive selection of goods, but the employees at this location provide the poorest customer service that I have ever experienced, They are at best indifferent, and at worst downright hostile! Recently, I needed a jacket and was forced to shop this location, The jacket needed the sleeves shortened and I was told that it would be ready on Friday of that week. When I went to pick up the jacket, the sleeves were about two inches too short! I was told that they could fix it but it would take another week. I said that I needed it for the following Tuesday and since I had already waited a week , there must be a way to put a rush on it, Arlene, one of the managers told me that since I got free alterations anyway,( I have a "luxe" credit card) I would just have to wait until the following Friday, I said I wanted to just return the jacket , and was told that it couldn't be returned because it had been altered. I finally just took it to a regular tailor who did the best he could . I'll stick with my Newbury Street location or online shopping but, I'll never set foot in the Copley Place store again!! read more
