I specifically went here based on all the raving Yelp reviews Bancroft Smog Test Only received and I was so glad I did! John and Dai are extremely sincerely nice, efficient, hardworking people! Even with 2 cars ahead of me to be smogged, I was in and out of there within a half an hour. I drove straight to the back since both garage lanes were occupied and all the parking spaces on the right side were full. John immediately greeted me and assisted me promptly hopping into the drivers seat allowing my daughter to stay in the passenger seat with our dog as I moved into the back seat so he could back up my car into where they needed it to be to smogged. He asked for my DMV registration papers and told me my vehicle would need to go on the dyno and directed us into the back waiting room behind the garage. It was a comfortable stylish leather sofa facing a flat screen television with the news playing and a cool gentle breeze flowing through it so yes we could cool off and relax from the heat of Spring Valley. There was a truck before me for an oil change, a car being smogged and another car waiting to be smogged before me yet technician Dai came in well within a half hour to have me sign the papers and pay $40 through the Square app on his iPhone. It passed! I was elated that it did so this being my 5th Smog Test! I will be back January 2019 for my next Smog Test. Living in Nestor, I don't mind the drive inland since it's good for the car to be tested after a good warm up while engine is hot plus John and Dai are so nice and efficient! Been going here for years, super convenient for me never any wait, affordable prices. Went in last week, test came back incomplete, the guy said since I changed the battery the car would have to complete a drive cycle, told me to come back later for free retest, so I did. It passed! Once I found this place (into the drivethru lane of the Mexican restaurant but keep going straight and it will be on your left), everything was fast and friendly. I did not have an appointment but no one else was there at 3:45 on a Tuesday so I was in and out in 15 minutes. Great, inexpensive, and painless place to get your car smogged! I had a car ahead of me and I only waited about 30 minutes total. its a little tough to find, and their are a bunch of other Smog places on Bancroft. Look for the signs, and the brightly colored taco shop on the right. Pull down the alley way and its behind the taco shop and a residential home. Very friendly people and STAR certified. read more

Yep, odd location...but really professional, fast service. And, the guy is nice. Seems like a family run business, which is cool. Whenever we get the dreaded "you must smog your car" when you register it we grab a coupon online and get it done fast and cheap! Quick, efficient, and inexpensive. They were easy to find in a Google search which was why I went to them. Also, they offer a discount coupon on their mobile website (another plus). The whole process took 20 min, they passed my smog test and electronically submitted it to the state. The only reason I didn't give them a 5 star is that the location is not good and hard to find. Have no fear! Go back and there is customer parking there... No frills, basic TEST-only place = no reason to fail you and upsell. Also, very simple pricing $50 out-the-door, some cars extra; I got $10 off with Yelp coupon, paid $40 and passed; in-ond-out in 15mins... includes waiting for one car being tested. I met with John who was extremely knowledgeable, kind & honest. The smog test took less than 15 minutes & they submit it electronically so you don't have to go to the dmv. As far as the other issues he quoted me a considerable amount less to fix it than other places. I'd been coming to this place for the past 6 years , I owned 3 vehicles and never had any issues. Two weeks a go a brought my truck for its bi yearly smog. Saturday morning went there first thing 8am first customer , right off the bat didn't go as well . He said smog was $60.00 I said I thought it was 50.00. He went and said it went up , so I said ok. As I singed the paper work he circled the part retest which in the last 6 years he never done seem odd. So he went and test my truck . 20 minutes later said I failed . He indicated that my catalytic converter and intake has been tampered . Mind that he has been doing my smog for the last 6 years and this truck of mine has only been driven 1000k in two years . So I went to the California smog Bar referee at cuyamaca because everything didn't make Sense . As I suspected nothing was wrong with my Catalytic converter nor my intake. If I didn't do my research I would had bought a new catalytic converter and intake . Do not trust this guy with your car . I have paperwork's to prove it from the state smog. This guy is too lazy to look for under the car for the serial of the catalytic converter on my truck . That was his excuse that I failed because he couldn't find my serial number . Short story . Do not go to this place if you want to spend more money. read more
