There's often only enough room for one car to pull into their driveway and never any room for you to park while you wait. Because the entirety of their property is full of junk and old rotting cars you can't turn around and have to back up onto Lemon Grove where you can't see the cars and they can barely see you. Hard to find, that's for sure, I'll start by saying that, but getting a smog check every few years is a necessary evil if you want to get those pesky little tags on your car. For me, that happens in May and I dread it every time. I found these guys on Yelp and I picked them because they were well-priced with a coupon and they are close enough to where I live. Once again, a bit hard to find and they're kind of lumped in with a few other automotive businesses up a tricky driveway. The work is quick, the dudes are nice, and the price ain't as steep as their driveway so I'll call that a win in my book. Not a good place for diesel owners, especially if your truck has CARB‑legal parts. I brought in my 1999 Ford F‑250 7.3 Powerstroke with a full Banks PowerPack system. Every single modification on my truck has a valid CARB EO sticker, all clearly visible and matched to my engine family. Instead of checking the EO numbers like California BAR requires, the technician (Fermin) told me the stickers "don't mean anything," which is simply not how CARB compliance works. It got even more confusing when he mixed up Azusa, California with Arizona, USA, and after I corrected him, he admitted he wasn't comfortable continuing because he didn't understand the Banks system. Once he realized the parts were legal, he still refused to complete the inspection and told me to "go to BAR" -- but never gave me a fail sheet or Vehicle Inspection Report, which is required if a test is failed or refused. Without paperwork, there's no record, no explanation, and no valid referral. I left with nothing done and wasted time. If you have a diesel with any CARB‑approved aftermarket parts, I would not recommend this shop. They may be fine for basic vehicles, but they are not familiar with diesel smog rules or CARB EO procedures, and that lack of knowledge can cause unnecessary hassle for diesel owners. read more

Took my car for its first smog test! It's finally time for it :/. Looked up a few locations on Yelp and pricing was comparable, maybe $10 more. There's no listing for it but it's $58ish currently + $8 certificate fee. I chose this location since there was a $10 off discount with Yelp check-in. When I arrived, there was one car ahead of me. Waited under 10 mins before it was my turn. The test was quick (don't forget to bring your dmv document). Jose is the one who assisted me and he was super friendly and efficient. I have recently moved over here to San Diego, CA and I needed to get a required Smog Test at a Star Station on my older car. I asked the Yelp Project Website to give me some estimates on 3 different Smog Stations. All these other stations gave me some estimates on my older car but when I texted Fesmil the owner yesterday, he told me he would give me a $10 Discount Coupon off my Smog Test that is deducted from the original price that he's going to charge me. Fesmil said he will charge me an affordable price today. Since I am his new customer. I drove over this morning on Martin Luther King's Birthday on Monday, January 20, 2025 at 10:00 a.m. to the Grove Smog Center . It was a walk-in appointment and I arrived at their Smog Center at 10:30 a. m. Jose was the first person who walked up to my car when I entered their driveway. Jose had a very friendly conversation with me Jose said he will drive my older car into their Grove Smog Station Area right now and start the Smog Test on my car. Then Jose said I can sit on one of their 3 chairs that was located outside their Grove Smog Center Station. While I was waiting outside , one of their other smog technicians printed off the intake Invoice and he asked me to read and sign this Invoice with my current address, correct phone number and my current email address it also had my car's DMV Car Registration Renewal information on this invoice. I had to sign my name and today's date. I showed Jose my DMV Car Registration Renewal Print Out on my Apple IPhone XR for my required Smog Test at a Star Station today. It took about one hour to complete the Smog Test on my older car. Since it's a longer process on older cars like mine. Jose told me that my car passed their Smog inspection today. Jose said he will also give me the Original Smog Certificate with the results today. Then Jose said he will send my DMV Smog Test Certificate results electronically to the DMV this afternoon. Jose then said to wait until this Wednesday, January 22, 2025 to make sure my DMV Smog Certificate results were received by them. Jose gave me great advice today and said a faster response to get from the DMV to get my Car Registration License Plate Tab Sticker is to call one of these grocery stores in Lemon Grove . Jose said to call Albertsons Grocery Store to ask if this store has a DMV Kiosk located inside their store . I thanked Jose today for his great advice. Also I talked to Manny another technician who told me he helps Jose out with their customers in performing smog tests as much as he can at their smog station. Jose and Manny both did a very efficient job on performing the Smog Test on my older car. Plus they also gave me excellent customer service today. There was a third smog technician that was very helpful today. I forgot his name . There were 3 smog technicians who work for Fesmil the owner at this Grove Smog Center . I also was charged a reasonable price. I will definitely come back again to the Grove Smog Center in the future. I highly recommend this place. read more

No one likes getting the notification that they are due for a smog check. I was glad Grove Smog made the process very easy. I found them on Groupon, and they are close to home.
