At about this time last year, my fiancee and I were in an auto accident coming back from a friend's holiday party. I was driving and there weren't that many other people on the road close to Diamond Bar. What wound up happening was a mistake by another car that didn't see me. I went around a white Dodge truck and went to merge back into the lane I had just left. There was a grey Cadillac in the adjacent lane that hadn't moved. As soon as I merged back, the other car started to merge too. They couldn't see me because I was likely in their blind spot, but the driver merged without any blinker or signal. I tried to get out of the way but I couldn't and crashed into me. I lost control of my car and wound up hitting the guardrail. From the impact of the accident, I was left with a broken collarbone, dislocated shoulder, and a lingering headache that later turned out to be a mild concussion. The damage was too much to deal with immediately afterward, since it hurt to breathe and I could only effectively move my left arm at the time. An ambulance came and took me to the hospital in Pomona where they put my shoulder back in its socket, repaired my collarbone, and gave me a lot of pain meds. My fiancee only had cuts and bruises, thankfully, and she walked away without any real physical damage or lingering injuries. It took time, but I knew I needed to lawyer up for this. Then while we were at the court hearing the judge informed me that my paperwork was not sent in on the time she ordered, so she didn't even hear any of my side. After that while trying to set up child support, the child support office informed me to have my lawyer just inform them over the phone that they allow a limited scope, and when I told the receptionist what the child support office stated, she said that wasn't correct and that they needed another paperwork sent into them (substitution of counsel) which would take my lawyer off the case when I still had 1200 left in my retainer fee. which I was scared if I signed her off then I'd have to resign her on and create a whole new retainer and I already only had a credit card that I maxed out for the retainer, so I didn't sign off then. When I had asked for legal advice on what the court order had stated she also made things worse by giving me in correct advice and made the judge mad at me for not doing the correct thing. I'm a single parent who can barely afford to take care of myself and my child and I got into more debt and stress by hiring this firm and it was the worst thing to do.
