He was patient and answered all my questions. He also let me try out several different ukuleles. I found out they were having a killer sale and they also would ship the instrument to my home back on the mainland. I told him I'd come back prior to our leaving the island. When I returned, Lucky was there as well as Sam, the owner and Lucky's dad. Sam was super cool as well. He answered more of my questions and showed me many options. I knew I wanted to upgrade to a tenor ukulele since my first one is a soprano. He was willing to honor the sale for the soprano ukuleles for the tenor I picked. I honestly feel I got an amazing deal for a beautiful instrument. I chose a ukulele with a Sitka spruce soundboard, ebony fretboard and bridge, gold pearl block inlays and around the head with the Kamoa diamond, walnut head and spalted maple backsides. It's gorgeous! He had several of the model I wanted, and we were able to get me the #1 edition of that model. I think he said only 12 had been made for the year. Score! They also took the time to lower the action on the fretboard so the strings were set closer. We jammed a little and then Sam and Lucky played for me as well. It was a really great experience! Even though I had to step away from some hobbies after a year due to my work schedule, I am still grateful for all of the tools he equipped me with when I'm ready to pick up the bass again. He's friendly and easygoing, has deep experience, and really knows how to work with everyone from beginners to skilled players. He's also a bit of a music theory nerd and he'll start sneaking little bits of it in here and there to gently guide you down that path. Everyone I've referred to him shares my praise. Dave also has a wealth of knowledge about the evolution of electric bass styles and artists and you will eventually learn names like Wooten, Jamerson, Pastorious, Kaye, and their contributions to the music industry and art. One day, without warning him in advance, I started a lesson with "Talk to me about Sting's bass lines." He proceeded to deliver an excellent and completely hour-long off-the-cuff tour of Sting's evolution and artistry. I found Dave randomly when I wanted to learn to play the bass and was looking for a teacher near my office. I hit the jackpot.

Juggling all the different pieces was difficult for me from afar, and Kaia was able to streamline and simplify, ask questions to clarify, and was clearly very strong at coordinating a lot of moving pieces. We wired a slack guitarist, Paul, who was so sweet and totally knowledgeable around the history of music on the islands which my husband and guests loved. While he claimed to be back ground music which could be totally fine for another party, we so enjoyed giving him our attention as it was just so pleasant while we enjoyed our cocktails and settled into the groove of the night (We hired White Ginger for catering, also recommended!) The one fire dancer, 2 drummers and 2 dancers performances went off without a glitch, and the performers were gratefully adaptable to the space, as the rain and winds were a bit tough, so they had to move creatively within the space, which they did, with grandeur and integrity. I was so pleased, and have every reason to put my fingers together for another manifestation for friends and family! We were an intimate group of 6 adults and 1 fire dancing loving child, and it was all just right (even if we wished others were lucky enough to be in attendance - they would have been a great combo for a 20 person or more party easily!)

If at first you're scared to walk in because of the "do not touch- fragile" signs, just do it. Once you walk in you find that although the signs are there to deter, it doesn't take away from the sharing and some what healing experience of hearing Crystal play. Being an owner of crystal and metal singing bowls, I appreciated learning different techniques and about vibrational healing beyond the bowls themselves- we talked about the vibrational healing properties of gongs and even the energy centers of heiaus throughout the islands.
