I called my vets emergency number and they told me they could refer me to emergency services in Decatur or Huntsville. I said Decatur because it was closer. I called them immediately, told them what was going on and asked if they could try to make her throw them yup. They said yes, so off we went. We got there close to 2 am. Everyone from the front end staff to the vet were great. Very caring, explained everything well, and gave me options along with estimated costs for each so I could make informed decisions. They got her to vomit, but not much came up and they could still see a lot of debris in her stomach. They suggested keeping her overnight and trying to flush everything through. They said if that did not work, surgery would be the next option. They called me Sunday morning and said the debris had not moved and felt surgery was needed so I gave the okay. Surgery went well and she is back to being my happy and healthy girl. I am very thankful they were there when my other vet was closed and saved my girl.

The checkups were uneventful and didn't seem particularly expensive. When we boarded our 3-4 animals here, upon pickup, they all had a strange smell and appeared dazed. It took them several days to get back to normal. I've read that this veterinarian co-locates his boarding animals with his animal shelter aka "the Doghouse." This doesn't seem to be a good practice IMO because one of my former co-workers adopted a dog from the on-premises Doghouse/shelter, and the poor pup had parvo! Because I could not find anyone to perform an in-home euthanasia for my sweet kitty-cat Jewel, years ago, as a last resort, I asked Dr. Pitman who agreed to do it. He was not compassionate or empathetic in the least, as I was an emotional wreck, and my husband was, too. [I took 3 days off work to mourn Jewel's death]. Pittman seemed to be in a huge hurry and wanted to get this over with! This was not my intent. My goal was to get my priest on the phone to pray with me, and for me to keep my fur baby as comfortable as possible while undergoing this sad process. I had Jewel on a towel on my lap, and when Jewel died, Pitman didn't even have a proper carrier that would honor my fur baby [think the blue bags with handles the emergency vet in downtown Huntsville uses] to transport Jewel's body to his truck. Pitman just wrapped Jewel in my bath towel and off he went. My last encounter with Pitman was when a stray cat somehow [without us knowing it] got into our back yard. Sadly, our dogs attacked the cat and his back and legs were broken. Wow, this was really upsetting! I called Animal Control to help me remove the poor cat from under my deck and put him into a carrier for me to take to the closest vet I know, which was Pitman. My priorities were 1. Eradicate the cat's pain 2. scan the cat for a chip/try my best to find the owner [he/she didn't have a collar/ID tag on] 3. determine the extent of the cat's injuries and 4. make an informed decision about a path forward. Long story short, he quoted me a price to surgically repair the damage, which I knew would not be the end of the costs for treating this stray cat - and what quality of life would this animal have after such intense damage? Again, not my cat and we were not interested in having a second cat. I thought it may be my neighbor's cat, and when I found out it wasn't, I was losing focus on what the responsible thing for me to do actually was. My workday morning was completely thrown off by this incident, I was not treated with compassion, I was very upset that my animals caused this animal to suffer and after being unable to locate the owner, made the decision to euthanize the cat. I did not feel like I should have to pay the entire price for the euthanization since it was not my animal, and I made this clear to Pitman. Reluctantly, Pitman did discount the procedure and I recall he charged me $150-$175 that morning [this was somewhere in the 2011 timeframe]. Thankfully, that was my last interaction with Pitman. Thankfully, there are abundant kind, compassionate, community-focused, veterinarians in the area now, who desire to, and actually do garner goodwill in the region, who put their patient [the fur baby] and the animal's needs first, and who also foster and grow compassionate relationships with the animals' owners, and do not prioritize power, wealth, and eradication of certain dog breeds.

Dr. Pinto was wonderful with Kippy and took a great amount of time with her. She suggested we start a new food they carry that makes her more thirsty so she would drink more. The food WORKS. She eats and drinks constantly and has had no more UTI's. Dr. Pinto even sent me an article about UTI's and cats. Highly recommend her.

Dr. Lorge is a true angel on earth. Our neighbor had used her medical services for one of their…read morepets and told us how wonderful she is. When we needed to euthanize our sweet fur-baby on the Saturday after Christmas, we contacted Dr. Lorge, fully expecting to have to wait until Monday to have the service provided (after all, other than emergency hospitals, what veterinarians work on the weekend?). Dr. Lorge immediately agreed to come to our home to help us send our baby over the Rainbow Bridge. Words can't adequately describe the caring, dignified way in which she handled the situation. She was able to make what is the worst possible experience for a pet-parent into a more peaceful goodbye. We hope we don't need to call her any time soon for our other fur-baby, but because of Dr. Lorge, we know we will be more at peace when the time comes.

I have a fussy, reactive dog that truly doesn't like vets that she doesn't know. She's still peeing allllll over the place when she goes here, but she seems to like it--and I can see why. Pros: the staff is delightful, the vet seems to care about animals (yes, I've seen vets who don't), they can usually work you in. Cons: I wasn't a fan of them calling in meds--and trying to charge me for them--that I didn't ask for and that my dog didn't need. I am EXTREMELY conscious of my baby, and I never hesitate to pay whatever necessary for what she needs, but why did I nearly get charged for diarrhea medicine when she's never had that complaint with them? Also, parking is a bit of a chore. Overall, I think this is a reasonably priced vet with caring staff. I'd recommend--but watch what they charge you in case you also get hit by the "we see there is a fee for a medicine you didn't ask for" thing.
