I went straight to the vintage dresses and found a roaring 20's dress as well as a new with tag gunne sax dress with the puffy shoulders and light pink lace. Gunne sax is really sought after in the vintage clothing community for its limited releases and style. I was thinking of wearing the roaring 20s dress to an artdeco themed bar like Monroe or decidable in sf. I have no idea where I'll be showcasing this beautiful Victorian Gunne sax dress but I can't wait to post them! Thank you the amazing owner for her cheery attitude as she was helping other customers and then helping me. It made the visit so welcoming and I felt like I could browse around and admire everything. Btw! There was this huge "tv display" the size of the back wall with curtains. I was curious what was back there but I loved it. Wish I had more time to really navigate the whole store. This event draws hundreds both days for this two day fundraiser event. Held in the gymnasium at Arcata high in November, this event helps raise money for the orchestra students annual performance and trip. Every year the orchestra travels either internationally or in the USA to perform in an environment of substantial exposure for these young musicians. This fundraiser allows the students to raise money individually as well as for the group collectively. There are always lots of great items available for thrifters and bargain hunters alike. Lots of clothing, footwear, artwork, glassware, kitchen appliances, furniture, tools, collectibles and vintage items to be had. Tables and tables fill the gym and there is even a high end section. The selection is truly impressive, from literal Victorian clothing, to 1970's disco jumpsuits. My daughter found a gorgeous dress with a black tulle skirt and red satin rhinestone embellished sash for only ten bucks! But the real star of the show was the girl who worked there & I wish I'd gotten her name. She had short dark hair & was the sweetest, most wonderful young woman. She couldn't have known how much her kindness mattered, but it did. We have just moved here & my daughter is having a tough time, worrying about whether or not she'll fit in or be happy here. This salesperson was precisely the kind of person my daughter admires and we talked briefly about anime and video games and...maybe it didn't seem like much to her, but it meant a lot to us. It was a little squeaky and when we went to tighten the screws, we found that the screw attaching one arm to the back was missing! This is not a minor thing and someone should have looked over the chair before selling it (especially since we paid almost $100 for it). I might forgive something like that if I bought from some random on Craigslist, but I expect some basics repairs and cleaning when I buy from a store.
