I had a decent experience first at the clothing dock as I was looking for dance clothing and it isn't available around humboldt much. The selection was good and the prices were a bit high but I liked what they had so I put it up front with the owner so I could keep shopping. I found a pair of black exercise shorts that were priced far below the others and they fit perfectly-- I couldn't wait to bring them home. I paid for the items I had given the owner when I was finished browsing and realized she didn't include my favorite pair of shorts in my bag. At first I thought it was a mistake and she had left them there so I went back and explained I couldn't find them. The response from the owner : "I've been doing this 20 years and I'm pretty sure they ended up in your bag." So I gave her the benefit of the doubt and went home to get my receipt and bag of items-- finding they never were scanned nor made it into my bag. I went back and showed her that she didn't scan nor give them to me and they were somewhere in the store still-- must of been up front as I just had them there less than an hour ago. She was selling an identical pair of shorts for $15 and my gut tells me she snagged my favorite $4.50 pair to raise the price and put it back on the shelf. SHADY! She acted like the pair didn't exist yet the first time I returned to ask about it she was "positive" they were in the bag. Also, they don't quarantine the clothes that have been tried on by people for any period. The swimsuits I had tried on an hour ago were placed back into the same spots I found them in the first place. Kinda weird during COVID if you ask me. Anyways, avoid this place. Head to Eco Groovy Deals or Angels of Hope and get what you actually purchased (and selected) without shady business owners. read more

I have been going to the clothing dock since i've lived Arcata; about 5 years. Every time that i go there i curse myself because i know that i will find something that i like and know that it will be overpriced and it will piss me off because it is second hand! with that said, they do have cute items but i do think that they are a bit pricey for a second hand store. The last time that i tried to bring in clothing to sell they did not have a system for the pricing of items. At other second hand places they will give you, for example, 50% of what they plan to sell it for. I sold back two skirts and got one dollar for each. I went into the store a week or so later and one of the skirts was being sold for $8 and the other for $7, which seems pretty unfair to me. I tried to sell some good condition black Ugg boots, the tall kind, and she offered me $2.50! I was shocked! I guarantee that she would have turned around and sold them for at least $30. It is possible to find descent deals but i think that the buying system is pretty unfair and most items are overpriced. there are way better second-hands in humboldt! read more

I always end up with something totally awesome from here. I frequented the clothing dock many times. It's quite varied, has quite a few options, and is generally nicer to browse through then most thrift shops. Besides just clothes for everyone, they have shoes and jewelry, bags too. I found my ex's awesome practically new j-crew black coat, which he still has here. I traded all my old clothes here when I was moving back home and trying to cut back on belongings. I have 3 or 4 pairs of earrings from the dock and a ring I love. I recommend coming here for some interesting 2nd hand choices, there were a 3 things I wanted this time around but could only get one thing, because of my financial issues. That's not to say their prices aren't reasonable, I just have no money. The docks prices are very reasonable. read more

I love shopping here. There is such a variety of eclectic things to look at, I don't usually stop in unless I have a few hours to spend here. There is an amazing collection of wigs and jewelry, I would say the best in town I've seen so far. The vintage selection is really fun, and mostly in very good condition. The collection of second hand clothes usually has some designer labels in it. This is the first place I check to see if the owner wants to buy any of my second hand clothes. I love this place! I always find great stuff at the dock. Super fair prices. Not thrift store prices but I'm happy to pay more for clean clothing in really nice condition than by cheap shit that's already worn out like I find at other places. On a side note- why do people go on Yelp to complain about not having a public bathroom?? Or about something being expensive? I mean, a new truck is expensive but instead of complaining because I can't afford it I just don't buy it and keep living life. As far as thrift stores go in the Eureka-Arcata region, The Clothing Dock remains a decent one to browse on a lazy Sunday afternoon. I cannot get too excited about the place, despite the very fun costume-themed window displays- I certainly spent time here looking for clean, unique and creative Halloween creature ideas while a student- the store just does not always get the prices right for certain clothing items. Nevertheless, there is a big abundance of clothing items to look through. The fancy gown section always made me giggle. The Annex that they operate next door, which is mostly selling home furnishings, funky jewelry and accessories, was a real treat to explore. There were easily the typical hallmarks of college living equipment there, such as futons, stackable storage units from Target, enough plastic plates and tumblers to fill 5 kitchens, a papasan chair and lamps, but mixed with other interesting things like a Japanese-designed wooden owl plate and a very charming circus-themed toy box. It was cleanly lit and easy to navigate. Here also, the prices jumped around varyingly, but there were some very good steals in terms of hardly-used furniture to buy! This has been bothering me for some time now, so I'm finally going to share my experience. The owner of this place is sheisty and untrustworthy. About five years ago I brought a batch of things in to consign. She took some things and returned others, so I decided to make a free box a block away with the things she returned. I went back a week later, and what did I find? My returned clothes! On her racks! One of which was featured in a prominent display! A couple with price tags at $15 and $20!! How dishonest, cheap, and sneaky! I used up my credit and did not return. Last week I decided to give the place another shot. Forgive and forget is usually the way to go, so I brought a big bag of things in. She ended up wanting to take about half of my stuff, about a third of which was brand-name. The amount she wanted to pay for it (in either cash or credit) was laughable. I have been buying and selling at consignment shops for over 10 years, and I know what things are worth. I have a pretty good sense of how much I should pay for things, and how much I should be paid. While this was going on, I noticed the prices she's getting for this stuff. $90 for a used pair of jeans that I've seen on sale brand new for less. Terrible. At this point, I honestly believe her business model includes preying on clueless college kids with their parent's bank cards. Other consignment/resale shops in the area seem to do just fine, while maintaining higher sets of business ethics. Don't waste your time here. Instead, try Bang Bang or Willow and Rags in Arcata, Or The Clothing Closet in Eureka. read more

Nothing here is affordable unless your last name is mc bucks. When my friend dropped off her clothes for consignment they kept them and sold them. My friend never saw a dime. This store doesn't belong in arcata. However they do have a nice selection if you can afford 30$ used shirts. read more

The owner of the Clothing Dock is very professional and considerate. I left a box of clothes with them and they chose what they wanted and returned the rest. I was confused about the box pick up because I was out of town and the owner emailed me back and forth to help. This store had some interesting shirts we were about to buy--until our 9 year old son politely asked the woman behind the counter where the restroom was, and she told him they didn't open their restroom to the public and that he should run across the street and see if he could find one there. What kind of customer service is this? I'm also mystified as to how you tell a child asking about a bathroom to hold it or run across a busy street. Why would we support this bad attitude by buying things here? We didn't. We put the items back and left. I have brought in an amazing amount of brand name and beautiful clothes to sell that in total was probably worth around $500+ if I took the time to sell them on CL or eBay. A few days later I got a call and was offered $50 cash. If I wasn't so in need I would've asked for my things back and sold them elsewhere. It was also a lesson in non-attachment. In fact if I wasn't so in need I would've donated them elsewhere! I got a bad vibe from the place because of that and haven't gone in since. In fact if my friends want to go in I stand outside. It just makes me so frustrated. Now I have some more great clothes to sell but they will either be sold elsewhere or donated. Too bad there isn't a buffalo exchange around here. They gave me a great price for selling and I got to watch them buy the items in. This store is well-organized and peaceful, definitely a different vibe than some other thrift/second hand stores in the area. I found a long-sleeved athletic top for $1 in their $1 bin and a Target brand used top for $4.50, which I thought was reasonable. My rating is based on the fact that they don't have any kids clothes (I guess because Recycled Youth is up the way), and there were these random new clothes scattered throughout. I'd be like, "hey, nice" and then check the tag, and be a little unpleasantly surprised. Maybe the new stuff and Humboldt label should be a different rack with a special label. read more

I've read the other reviews and there are many things that I agree with in most of them. First the good stuff: The place is very well organized and clean looking and smelling.The lady, Jesse, who helped me out on my first and last (it was the same visit) was very helpful and nice. And now for why I'm not going back: I bought two pair of pants and after wearing both pairs I found that one pair did not feel well being worn. I washed them and took them back to ask for store credit so I could get another pair. Jesse told me that the owner did not accept returns, at all, period. But she said she would ask about store credit and would get back to me. She called a few days later and said that the owner did not want the pants back and I could come and get them or they would donate them to the needy. So pants that were freshly washed and folded and that I bought from her store suddenly were not worthy of her taking them back and allowing me to have some amount of store credit, but they were good enough for her to put up for sale just before I bought them? Not only am I not ever going back there, I am now going to actively persuade everyone I know to NOT shop there! I'll tell them my story and then I can tell them if my story doesn't persuade them, then I will recommend that they just read the Yelp reviews and let the shoppers beware. I have taken every friend that has come through town into the Clothing Dock and tons of them have bought stuff; but no more. This owner needs take a good hard look at these reviews and see what she can do to fix her reputation; that is if she gives a rip, which she obviously doesn't. read more

Brought in over $800.00 worth of unused True Religion shoes and clothes to sell. Now I realize that they need to make a profit. I looked at similar items they had for sale. The items totaled just under $400.00 but were used and not new like the items I brought in. The owner spent about 10 minutes going through and adding up the items I brought in and finally offered me a staggering $25.00. Thinking I misunderstood her I ask her if she said $25.00 for everything and she nodded yes. What a waste of time. I can understand profit margins but I feel there is a point when an offer like that becomes more of a rip off than an offer. I feel as though merchants that buy and sell to the public should have some sort of standards that is a fair practice and not try and take advantage of the public. She could have at least said something like I really have to steal items I buy outright or you might do better on CL or EBay. I would think that a 200% markup would keep a business afloat but a 2000% markup is more of a swindle! read more

Wouldn't really consider this a "thrift" store considering none of the clothes are priced like consignment.The prices are way too high for used clothing, I don't know how they're still in business. The clothes aren't even "vintage-y" enough to be pricey, its just overpriced regular used items. Additionally, every time a customer comes in the staff treats them like they're going to steal. Watching them closely and constantly asking if they need assistance, or pretending to sort items really closely to the customer. It's extremely uncomfortable and doesn't make me want to buy anything but leave instead lol. Go elsewhere if youre looking to actually thrift. read more

The main negative is that many items in the store are way overpriced. I have been shopping at thrift, consignment and vintage clothing stores since I was in my mama's arms and I am knowledgable of vintage and period clothing and prices all around the country. Her prices are steep. I used to visit the store quite often as I was willing to pay a bit more for unique finds. Then I had a couple more personal experiences with the woman who runs the place and I have not gone in more than three times in the last three or four years and those times were for costume emergencies. The turn offs: I brought in a big stack of freshly washed and dry cleaned wrinkle-free vintage clothes( took more than a few hours to prepare the clothing for sale) and she returned them to me wadded up and wrinkled in my bag without buying any of them and saying she wasn't really buying much at that time. Another time she sold me a men's vintage shirt for 15 dollars. I got it home and realized it was covered in yellow and brown stains ( its not very bright in the store) I brought it right back within a day or two and she wouldnt let me return it or offer store credit. She suggested I go home and wash it and that the stains would probably "come right out". I knew this was doubtful but I tried all my best stain removal techniques (good ones-even for set stains) but NOPE. The stains were still there. The positive is that it's another funky store with some cool vintage and thrift shop finds to choose from in our community. It is one of the larger stores in town of its kind with a decent selection. If I am remembering right, there are at least some items to be found that are not over priced. Their new "Annex" store around the corner is also way overpriced.
