I don't particularly like getting it from the supermarket so it's nice to find a good Butcher. The one in Coogee Village is exceptional. I think you pay for what you get here, which is gorgeous meat. The men who serve you are always smiling and kind and their product is the freshest meat in Coogee. You could pay about $7 for a fillet of steak which isn't too bad for the quality. They have some beautiful lean mince and sell free range eggs too. Having a local butcher that you like always makes you feel like you're a part of the community too. I highly recommend them.

For example, where I might pay $18/kg for T-Bone steak in another butcher, or up to $24 in woollies, Vinh Hung is consistently low, around$12-15/kg. The rest of their meat is cheap too, with all kinds of cuts of beef, pork, chicken and lamb. Parking can be a pain but if there isn't a spot on the street across the road, then take the next right and there is 15 minute parking in that cross street. Glenmore has most cuts of meat you are looking for and if they don't, just ring the bell and ask the wizened old butcher who will fix you right up. The place is not terribly fashionable, it doesn't try to seem too "gourmet", and all the better for it. You can get a wide variety of cuts, from the pre-done stuff, to placing your own requests over the counter. So if you're scouring a Stephanie Alexander cookbook and she tells you to get that special, traditional cut of lamb or beef, Glenmore will likely be able to help. I guess I'm only giving Glenmore 3 stars because a big meaty meat shop doesn't excite me that much, and I wasn't that impressed with the quality. It's good, but not mind-boggling.
