Some cities have food trucks. Brisbane has a food truck. A solitary food truck run by husband and…read morewife duo Harry & Christine. Serving the most delicious buns (wagyu beef, angus beef and chicken as well as various specials, and a delectable caramel banana dessert bun) this is easily one of the best 'no-fuss' and under $10 dinners you can hunt down in Brisbane. Find them in several spots around town including Loading Dock Espresso, The End bar in West End and Kangaroo Point Cliffs. They've got a cult following and where they go, so do the bun-stars. When I visited Harry and Christine at Loading Dock Espresso just before their Tuesday lunch rush, I ordered the Wagyu Beef bun and without realising it, Harry's own Dragon Chilli sauce. I'm not one for chilli or anything spicy but Harry's Dragon Sauce just gave the bun a gentle kick. The buns are freshly made to order and are well worth the ever so slight wait. Do yourself a favour and pin point where they'll be next and pop your Bun Mobile cherry.

Ever since I found out about this gourmet food truck "taste sensation" late in 2012, I have been intrigued and obsessed to try them ever since. Checking their calendar schedule, at least once a week (as their location changes daily,) only to curse the gods, disappointed at missing out. Not this time. Friday evening, The Bun Mobile made its way to Morningside at Southside Tea Room. It was there in all its unmissable funky glory. The truck itself is very presentable, and clean. The weather was gloomy, but standing in front of The Bun Mobile, looking up at the menu, was like seeing the clouds part and rays of sunshine beaming down. Their regular menu is Chicken, Pork, and Wagyu Buns but this night included a new special. Braised pork belly, zucchini & mushroom kimchi, crunchy lettuce, peanut butter and jelly. Talking to the lovely Christine who served us, she mentioned that it would be The Bun Mobile's 1st birthday come the week ending 8th March. She was really nice, and said Harry was the one who did all the cooking. There are also vegetarian options for those who are allergic to meat. The hardest thing about The Bun Mobile is deciding what to get, as everything sounds delicious. We ordered the Braised Pork Belly special ($10), and the Chicken bun ($8) which is Char grilled teriyaki chicken, slaw with julienne carrot, mint, Japanese mayo, and hoisin sauce. We observed all the lucky customers who had ordered earlier having a great old time at Southside Tea Room, eating their buns, smiles as wide as can be. I was salivating in anticipation. We didn't have to wait very long, as Christine called us out. Rushing home and opening the styrofoam box the buns come in..Aaah there it was, fresh, quality ingredients and ready to be devoured. The buns are actually quite generous in size, large in fact. We tuck straight in, having a taste of each other's, and all the hype about The Bun Mobile is all true. It is absolutely fantastic. The combinations of exotic flavours are mind-numbingly scrumdiddilyumpshus, and the bun is so soft I could swear there were clouds on my taste buds. It's no wonder The Bun Mobile has over 5000 followers on Facebook, probably qualifying as a religion at the next Census, and rightfully so. The Bun Mobile should be the benchmark by which all other food trucks are measured against. It met all our expectations, from their excellent service to their amazing buns. Tip: to find out what daily specials and Bun flavours are on, "Like" The Bun Mobile on Facebook.

Fruity Cup - Beef stew Not something to rage about (particularly the noodles which seemed to be all cut up..?) but a nice, quick lunch option.

It took me a couple of weeks to finally get there to order myself a Jasmine Green tea with pearls and they were out of pearls. What the. Come on people you're new, get your act together and get some pearls. They said they were all out of pearls.. but you really just need to boil more up... unless they are pre-ordered and not that fresh. My second time there, I got my drink... but the pearls... oh lordy they were overdone, soggy, soft, mushy, stuck together... there is truly nothing worse. It was my worst nightmare. They have cold vietnamese rice paper rolls with pork and chicken, but they are 90% vermicelli and only 10% meat. They don't give you enough dipping sauce if you ask me. Don't get me started on the ice cream. My thing is, if you're going to open something up that is popular... do it well. If you're going to do something half assed don't do it at all. These guys could have improved on all aspects of these areas and attracted a lot more people to their kiosk here like the sushi bento down the food court way... but i'm not too sure why they don't. The food is vietnamese fusion chinese and the bubble tea tastes very artificial and too sweet. Could be better I think.

(Not syrup or concentrate) I always get the watermelon juice which is really refreshing.. and have to hold myself back from buying all the happy buns and dim sims which are always tempting! I had the stew which was pretty average tasting overall, but the beef was very soft!

Whatever side of town you live in, I'm sure, if you're like me, that you have your "go-to" place to…read moreeat-in or for ordering take-away, whenever you have the case of the "can't-be-stuffed-cooking-dinner-tonight". Vietnamese Mint is practically my second home. Service is friendly, and the menu is simple, affordable, and always delicious. Sides are $6, Mains (soups and rice dishes), come in Regular $10 or Large $12, and they also offer "ice cream" for $4. Have been here many times, and have always come away satisfied and feeling full. On the occasion that I am more inclined to "take-away", it's best to ring ahead, and your order will be ready in no time to be picked up. My favourite dishes, are the regular Chicken Noodle Soup, the Lemongrass chicken salad, Vietnamese spring rolls, and the Lemongrass marinated porkchop with rice, spring rolls, salad, & fried egg (for only $12). The latter dish is a "special" so it may not become permanent on the menu. I think the word is slowly getting out, that this place is great value, and serves amazing food, because it does appear a lot busier (albeit slowly) that when I first came here when it opened. I feel lucky to have a place I can rely on to never disappoint. Vietnamese mint rocks!

This is not fine dining so don't expect any glamour, however this place does honest, great value Vietnamese food. Tonight my wife and I ordered the chicken rice paper rolls, the Vietnamese spring rolls, the chicken noodle soup, and the spring rolls vermicelli salad. All dishes were tasty, and we have a enough left over for lunch for me for tomorrow :). What I really liked was being provided with bean shoots, fresh lime, and fresh basil in a separate bag with the soup as this added a real zing. Also they had home made chilli sauce that you could pack and take home. This is the type of place you definitely want to see stick around - the guys that work there are quick and really down to earth so please give this place a try.
