Writing this review because I simply cannot stop thinking about the ice cream cone I had here SIX years ago. It's that good. I stumbled upon a quick moving line when I was aimlessly walking around town, and figured I may as well get in line when I saw the joy on peoples faces when they walked away with their ice cream. I'm so glad I did because I have told so many people to go out of their way to try this ice cream when they visit! The ice cream is so light and creamy, you'll never have another cone like it anywhere else.

Very important: They are cash only! (But they are so cheap!) Oh boy, where to even start! According to my friend that's a local here, this shop only makes 1 flavor of ice cream, and that flavor is "whipped cream". Yep, you heard it. No more of these "tastes like vanilla, but isn't" comments, no more of these "tastes kind of like whipped cream" comments. I repeat, it is whipped cream flavored ice cream! So don't be thrown off by the "this vanilla tastes weird" reviews. That's like saying cheesecake flavored ice cream tastes like "a weird kind of vanilla". No, it's just its own distinct flavor! Let's respect whipped cream flavored ice cream for what it is, ey. They also have bonbons (whipped cream on the inside, chocolate truffles on the outside). It's only €2,40 for a small bag, whereas you'd have to pay around €5 if you got them elsewhere, so definitely give these a try. The bonbons don't have ice cream inside so you don't have to worry about them melting. When I arrived, the line for this place was out the door, but they serve you really quickly. Within 5 minutes I had my ice cream in a cup and bonbons in my hand. Lastly, there's a sign that says no pictures allowed. It's a family owned business, so please be respectful to such a simple ask.

Only one flavor! It's a classic.

Always a queue at Banketbakkerij Van Der Linde for ice cream in Amsterdam. Order any flavor you like, but they serve only one: a super creamy whipped up scoop of vanilla. Have your change ready as it's cash only and they want it ready when you order. You can have it in a cup, waffle cone or between two wafers. A must try in Amsterdam. Since 1937.

Oooo man this is the ice cream u don't want to pass up. I got a single scoop but def regret it! I shouldn't have gotten a double! This isn't like any regular I've cream u would get anywhere else. It's one of a kind for sure! It's like ice cream mixed with whipped cream/cool whip. Delicious!!!

A well-tested rule of travel when it comes to food: If there's a line out the door, chances are that it's good. I was walking the side streets parallel to Damrak, the main street that connects Dam Square to Amsterdam Centraal. I was particularly craving something sweet and I could've gotten my fix at a FEBO or Albert Heijn. But then I saw people falling in line outside this store. Taking a peek, the people were falling in line for ice cream! Signs that this place is legit: - No English *anywhere* in the description of ice cream, only on the instructions of method of payment: CASH ONLY. - They serve one flavor of ice cream, vanilla. Standard order comes in a cone, cup or ice cream sandwich. - At the time of purchase I think I was the only non-local person in line. Like people have mentioned the line moves fast. I got a small cone for €1.10. The guy taking my order had issues taking my €5 bill so I just ended up paying in coins. I was pleasantly surprised by the uniqueness of this flavor. Technically it's "vanilla", but when you actually taste the ice cream it's more than just the ice cream itself. Apparently they integrated the whipped cream (slagroom) in the ice cream itself so you can't tell initially. Ice cream texture was pillowy soft so different from a gelato. The ice cream cone was crunchy throughout and held the ice cream well for the time it took for me to eat it.

Wow this was so good. It reminded me of my favorite ice cream in the world, Cremia, from japan. This is like the Dutch version. One flavor, milk/vanilla. You can get it as a cone, in a cup or as a sandwich between 2 small waffles. 3 sizes of scoop. Very cheap. Under 2 euros for the largest scoop. This is a rich rich tasting vanilla/milk. The texture is really unique. As it melts it becomes a whip cream like texture. When more Frozen it's like traditional soft serve texture. One of the best desserts in town and def recommender.

I can't pronounce the name of this place, but I'm a huge fan!! Probably the most unique vanilla "ice cream" I ever had. The texture is fluffly, soft, and creamy, almost whip cream like, but also similar to soft serve? That's what trips me out because I can't even categorize this heavenly dessert. My bf and I visited this place and there was no line whatsoever. It was raining that day, on and off, so business might have been lacking, but there were definitely people enjoying their ice cream indoors. This place, from what I've read, is quite popular and is a top dessert place in Amsterdam. Service was quick, friendly, and kind. I THINK this is a family run business. Besides their single flavor ice cream, they also serve truffels and other goodies. For the ice cream, you can pick how you want to eat it--- sandwiched between two waffles? On a cone? In a cup? I highly recommend trying this place, whether you're a fan of ice cream, whipped cream, soft serve or not. It's NOT going to be like anything else you've tried, so go for it. Prices are affordable, and location is convenient if you're shopping in the area.

The only ice cream or whipped cream.. Wait what is it?! ..worth trying in Amsterdam, Netherlands is at a little place called Banketbakkerij van der Linde. I can't even pronounce it correctly!!! But really.. what is it? Ice cream or whipped cream? Can you guys venture a guess from the picture?? Hmm.. It's actually both!! Whoever could have thought of that? So brilliant.. Sure, it sounds like a massive invitation to get diabetes from eating it, but man.. is it so insanely good.. Soft, milky ice cream intermixed with whipped cream.. so that it becomes one.. Each spoon you take, you either get the divine mixture of the two that becomes this, this smooth creaminess.. or you get a spoonful where you can taste the different layers of the whipped cream and ice cream in both sides of your mouth.. Pros: -fast moving long lines -delicious delicious delicious -good fast service -cheap -serves other pastries too -choice of cone, cup or cookie sandwich style Cons: -there are none! -cash only!

We were just strolling down the street in Amsterdam like typical tourists, minding our own business... when I noticed lots of people walking by with ice cream cones in hand. A LOT of them. Nevermind that it was a cold and rainy afternoon and I was freezing my butt off because I hadn't packed proper clothing for inclement weather... nevermind that we had just eaten huge pancakes and were stuffed to the gills... that ice cream sure looked GOOD. And when I saw a line out the door to this little shop, that clinched it for me. I just had to get in line and get a cone for myself. My bf couldn't be bothered to wait with me and opted to stand on the side for a ciggie break instead. His loss. The line moved quick. A single scoop cone was only €1. Everyone was getting that, so I did, too. I emerged from the shop with my somewhat plain-looking vanilla cone in hand and triumphantly offered it to my bf for the first bite. He seemed a bit reluctant, so I dug in. O. M. G. I guess the look on my face made him feel like he was missing out, so he took a bite, too. "It's like pure cream," he said. And he was right. Normally, I prefer the creamy hard-packed ice cream over soft serve, but this tasted so creamy and delicious. It was like soft, frozen cream, slightly melty on the edges, so I had to lick around the cone to keep it from dripping. I love cream in all its forms--whipped, frozen straight out of the Cool Whip tub, dolloped onto hot chocolate, drinking it straight from the carton (35% fat, baby! :O)--and this frozen treat was simply decadent. Definitely worth the €1. :D

Wow! Totally stumbled onto this place by accident. This is some amazing ice cream! I guess technically it's whipped cream, but whatever. There is one flavor and one flavor only, but it's the most incredible and creamy vanilla ice cream you'll ever have. Since it is so good the line goes out of the building, but it does move fast. There is is sign inside to have your money ready. Got to love the efficiency of this place. They aren't messing around. The staff is friendly and the establishment is clean. I was only in Amsterdam for a day and a half and my wife and I came back twice. Highly recommend this place.

Wow! €1 for a reasonably sized dessert? That's amazing, especially for such a unique little treat that confuses the tongue as to whether it's whipped cream or ice cream, but regardless it enjoys the snack anyways. I love the texture so much since you don't have the heaviness of an ice cream. I never would've thought of something as brilliant as folding whipped cream in there! Definitely make a stop by!

I was wondering around when I spotted some folks exiting the establishment with what appeared to be ice-cream. Now something about this was looking particularly enticing. The color, the texture. I had to have one. small line that moved very fast. I didn't know what I was ordering, still don't know what it was. It seems it was an ice-cream/whipped cream hybrid sandwiched in between two waffle cone slabs. The texture on this is uber soft, creamy. It doesn't seem to melt and hold form very well. Bite into that sammich and the texture on the waffle is on point. Crunchy and has toasted honey cone complexity with a hint of vanilla. I had to sit down and completely indulge myself in this. I still don't know what exactly this is so you'll have to refer to the picture I took. But if you are in Amsterdam you gotta get one.

Part ice cream, part whipped cream, all delicious! This is the large size on a fresh waffle cone.

The fact that this place was bustling even on a cold January day clearly speaks to its popularity. Located right off of Dam Square, Banketbakkerij van der Linde is the perfect place to grab a sweet, cold treat! What exactly is it? To my best guess, it's a mixture of whipped cream and soft serve ice cream. Some bites are mostly whipped cream, some bites are more frozen, but every bite is delicious! The texture is so fluffy, and you can really taste the freshness of the cream! Some people are comparing it to McDonald's soft serve, but the flavor is much less sweet and more rich. If you're not a fan of vanilla ice cream, you may find the flavor a little boring. Personally I love dairy products, so I was in dairy heaven and easily polished off a large scoop! The ordering system is efficient, so the line moves quickly. You can choose from 3 sizes and get your ice cream in either a cup or a cone. (I would recommend a cone--they're crispy and fresh!) You point to the option you want and pay at the counter, then you get a little chip to hand to the person scooping the ice cream. They also sell a few types of chocolates and whipped cream-based cakes but I wouldn't bother! There are a few seats and benches where you can sit and enjoy your cup or cone indoors, but it's not a particularly cozy spot to hang out. Just grab and go!

I hate this place and I do so for several reasons but let me first talk about the good things…read morebecause they do have some of those. The good: The plain yogurt flavor tastes OK, albeit too sweet. They have LOTS of different kinds of toppings, way more than any other froyo place in Amsterdam. They have fruits and nuts, candies and chocolates, and all kinds of gooey toppings such as caramel and peanut butter and much more. You don't pay per topping but you pay for the total weight of your big, deep and wide cup. You decide how much yogurt, which yogurt, how much toppings and which toppings and then you weigh and pay it. The fruits always look fresh. The bad: The yogurt is too sweet. The Italian chick who works there is so extremely annoying. We've been there many times (because of my girlfriend, she seems to love it) and every time she, the Italian girl who works there, is up in our face asking if we know how it works. We say we do, she asks again, we answer again, she asks one more time and we answer one more time and then she starts explaining the whole process anyway. That is SO annoying!!! Moreover, if you stay there and eat your froyo, you have to hear her do this to EVERY. EFFING. CUSTOMER. That's not even the worst of it all... the worst part is: she shouts and yells EVERYTHING! This woman is amazingly annoying. My girlfriend loves this place and even she mentions how annoying she is every time we go there. That's not the only reason this place gets 2 stars from me. What also annoys me is that this place (in the beginning more so than now) actively advertises LOW FAT yogurt... which is bullshit because yogurt fats are actually good fats and can be very beneficial to a person, even a person on a diet. What they fail the mention is the crazy amount of refined sugars that is in the yogurt. Refined sugars are far, far worse than natural fats and the body treats them as poison (for example, check out "Sugar: The Bitter Truth" on YouTube if you're interested). The only reason I see for anyone to go here is the array of toppings they offer.

Went to Yogen Früz yesterday to try this. I thought it would be frozen yoghurt but it was more like…read morejust regular ice-cream, also had many calories. There are like 8 flavours of ice-cream you can choose from. I tried chocolate and vanilla. Also there are many toppings. I had blueberries, raspberries and chocolate crumbles. Because you have to do everything yourself here and the weight your stuff in the end it can get really pricey, so don't take to much. Also, you have to pay for every topping even though they present them like they are free. I had to pay 4,70 euros in the end. The ice-cream tasted fine, the toppings are also okay. So this is a decent place to get your ice-cream when in the neighbourhood. The stuff is also nothing special though and very pricey so I would rather go somewhere else next time. Like getting a few scoops at Haagen Dazs.
