Wow, this evidently is THE place to be if you're in the Asa Norte area! I drove by several nights, and it was just jumping with people...you could feel the energy from the car! I actually came during the day, and no one told me about here, I just found it on a quick Google search for traditional Brazilian food on my first day in town. Obviously, I'm in Brazil, so EVERYTHING is Brazilian food. I wanted traditional though, but as I thought about it, I'd be able to experience traditional every day, so when I found Bar Beirute, and saw that it was a fusion of traditional and Middle Eastern, I was very intrigued. While ordering, I was torn between two dishes, one featuring steak and the other lamb. Brazilians are known for steak, while Middle Eastern cuisine is known for lamb. Again, seeing as how I knew I'd get traditional Brazilian food the rest of the trip, I opted for lamb, and man was this an excellent choice. My dish came with a sizeable boneless lamb, rice with kale and green peas, eggs with farinha (cassava flour), fries and a fried banana. The meal was absolute heavenly indulgence. My first meal in the country, and it as a homerun! Never tasted farinha before, and as my trip went on, it would show up on my plate a multitude of times. Brazilians love their cassava flour! It doesn't really have a particular savory taste, but the texture works well on many things, and it was great on the eggs here. That also was different, having eggs with a lunch meal, but again, it worked extremely well. And don't even get me started on the fried banana...wow. As great as the food was, my first Caipirinha may have even been better. Like the farinha, I ended up having Caipi's several times more on my trip, restaurant and homemade. None would even come close though to the one I had at Bar Beirute. The presentation was aesthetically pleasing with the many lime slices filling the cup. More importantly though, the flavor and strength of the lime juice, sugar and cachaca liquor made for a strong cocktail that woke me up out of any jetlag and properly introduced me to Brazil. This bar is Old School: the waiters are mostly older dudes dodging the tightly packed tables beneath the canopy of ancient, decrepit trees wearing red jackets with black lapels and bowties. "So, what about the food?" Well, if you order one of the jumbo stogie shaped kibes, or the esfirras busting out with sloppy joe flavor, you'll swear there's a mystic prognosticating your order because it's on your table the moment after you take a breath after your last 'por favor'. I don't think you can go wrong with the house brand beer that arrives frosty, goes down smooth, and gets replaced promptly when empty. You can't be claustrophobic anywhere in Brasil, and Beirute is no exception, the place was packed this particular Saturday evening with an eclectic crowd, including a healthy contingent of crossdressing carnaval revellers, but the mood was chill. The outside bar was accommodating to smokers and families toting infants alike. My group was taking a break from salgados, enjoying the lack of overwhelmingly loud music to chat, when we decided to ask of they 'messed around' with lamb. The waiter offered a skewered lamb with sauteed onions that came with pitas warm and fresh from the oven. Now, I'm a fiend for lamb, this was juicy, tender, seasoned perfectly with a hint of sweet exotic spices. The table was laden with an array of spicy condiments, garlic and pepper sauces that yanked me out of my buzzed ennui while waiting on the order and whirled me into a reverie of Mediterranean foodness. I wanted to give Beirute 5 stars, it is a bit out of the way, crossing the busy street in the North wing was a bit adventurous, especially with an odd fellow begging "Irmao, irmao, irmao" in my face while trying to time the traffic before he was chased off by the friendly neighborhood car watcher. On the other hand, street parking is much less cumbersome in a planned city like Brasilia than other parts of the country. Anyway, if you're willing to ninja creep through the northern Brasilia hoods to arrive here, you won't be overwhelmed by charm or sertaneja, but you will very likely have a hell of a good time. read more

Most famous bar in Brasilia, heavily crowded in the evening, but the fluctuation is high and they got a waiting area where drinks are served. Food is well seasoned and quite authentic, tastes well and is at reasonable prices. The special beer (Beira) is served quite cold, as Brazilians like it, tastes good and is strong. Signature drink of Beirute is the "green devil", a very heavy mixture of all kinds of alcoholics with a mint taste. Not mine, but fun at all. read more

A very traditional bar in Brasilia. Arabic food, very cold beer, nice and unique tables. You should definitely order the Kibeirute and their very own beer, Beira Beer. No music, no DJs, no live music, just people talking loud. Smokers can be welcome if they order for a table outside. Quite alternative crowd and very informal. That's the bar my parents used to ago 20 years ago and that's the place I love to meet my friends nowadays. read more
