Miserable staff, who are seemingly disorganized. Coffee is over priced. You have to hunt them down for the check. Pigeons are all over this place; flying over head, on tables, around your feet. Very unpleasant all around. Unfortunate but don't bother with this place.

Bar Ercolano - no, really! We were having a good time!

Despite the look on my friend's face this was a really nice bar. It is right on the main square of Sorrento, Piazza Tasso, and has a huge outdoor seating area which is covered with canopies. We were served as soon as we arrived and the waiter left our bill when he delivered our drinks so we didn't have any painful episodes trying to get his attention when we wanted to leave. Their menu consisted of coffees, granitas, alcoholic cocktails and aperatifs and beer amongst many other drinks and snacks. The drinks were not too expensive for Sorrento and it's a great place to sit and watch the world go by. Recommended.

Nice spot in the middle of the main square in Sorrento, much more reasonably priced than some of the neighboring bars, for example the Aperol spritz is 7.50 Euro here, 14 Euro next door. Good service, complimentary snacks with each round of drinks.

The gelato from Bar Ercolano was nothing special. I mean, it tasted good, but I've had better gelato from eight out of the twelve other gelato places in Sorrento that I have been to before. Two of my friends got gelato here too (coffee and tiramisu flavors) and they both agree that they have had better, and from multiple places. I got a small cone of hazelnut and strawberry, for which I paid 3€. The portion was not noticeably bigger than the smalls that I have gotten at other places, but it was still 50 cents more expensive than most smalls are.

Or to enjoy a glass of wine while watching all the people coming and going. I passed by so many times as this was on the path between my hotel and the shopping area, east of the Piazza Tasso, I finally decided to stop and give my feet a rest. Surprisingly affordable for a bar in the heart of Sorrento, I had a glass of red wine and opted for veal scaloppini for a late afternoon meal. The veal was very thin and quickly pan fried with a lovely lemony sauce balanced by briney capers. It was delicious and a welcomed reprieve from all the pasta I had been eating since I arrived. Others around me were enjoying pizza, pasta and gelato on a bright, sunny, 80 degree day in October. Sitting here surrounded by the incredible architecture of the buildings in this square was a quintessential Sorrento experience.

Specializes in pizza but also makes other entrees as well. A Ristorante which is a little more up scale with the waiters in tuxedos, table clothes, and fancy silverware. But my favorite of the places to eat are the Bars. Bars in Italy aren't like what you typically think of a bar in the States. They are restaurants but usually half the price of the "Ristorantes". Chances are the food will be just as good but served in a more casual environment. Which brings me to one of my favorite places to eat in Sorrento, Bar del Carmine. Since being in here we have eaten here a couple times, here's a few things we've order: Tuna salad and chicken salads: both are great. I'd order it everytime I come to Carmine's. Very fresh, a nice combination of flavors, meat, bell peppers, fresh mozzarella, corn, onions, olives, articoke hearts, and carrots. They don't serve any Thousand Island, Ranch, or Italian dressing out here. There's only one choice which is delicious, olive oil and Vino Blanco. Cheeseburger: not anything like the American Standard for a burger but still good. Small patty, the main focus is mozzarella and the tomatoes. So if you are expecting an In & Out burger, ForgetAboutIt... Pizza: only thing bad at Bar del Carmine is the pizza. Probably the worst pizza I have eaten in Italy. But pizza should be from the pizzeria anyway. Service is always good. Prices much more reasonable. Comfortable and casual with great people watching being that it is located in the center of Piazzo Tasso.
