Walked past this bar / pasticceria mist everyday while I was in Sorrento and the sfogiatell, cannoli and other pastries in the window lured me in, calling my name! When it comes to sfogiatelle, I have zero will power! And with all the miles I was walking daily, I told myself it was ok to indulge, can a,ways restrict calories when back in the states. I mean, I'm in Italy where the food is incredible and a big part of the experience. The outer shell of the layered clam shaped shell was nice and crispy; the ricotta cream flavored with orange citron inside was super creamy, slightly sweet and absolute perfection! In Italy it's common to have sfogiatelle and other pastry for breakfast but we always had sfogiatelle for dessert so I would get one for a late afternoon treat along with a cappuccino. Heavenly. My friends enjoyed croissants, cannoli and gelato, many went back daily for the gelato. They also serve meals - panini, pizza, salad, pasta - but we were there strictly for pastries and gelato. read more

Bad service here. Ordered our food and the vegetables arrived but the fish arrived about 15 minutes later. All the food was cold by the time the fish was served. (It was also cold). I called a water to try to rectify it and he ignored what I said and walked away. Would not recommend this place read more

Dang, food was just not good. Worst meal from our two weeks in Italy. We were so hungry so the bar was even low. Got the seafood pasta and the seafood was all overcooked but the noodles were undercooked, which I thought was kinda funny. The appetizer sampler was alright, but nothing special. I stumbled upon this place while strolling thru Sorrento and we decided to have dinner. This place was so delicious! I have thought about my dinner there ever since! We all ordered seafood dishes and they were so flavorful and fresh! I had what I think was a salmon puttanesca and it was one of my most favorite things I tried in Italy! It seems that many people go here for desert, but I think their entrees are splendid and worth the stroll out of the central city area. They had nice outdoor seating as well for when the sun falls and the evening brings the fresh breeze from the sea. Food quality was just so-so. I had a ceaser salad and it was disappointing. The lettuce was just iceberg and chopped up cheese pieces and what tasted like canned chicken. This place is a waste of time and a tourist trap. We arrived in Sorrento today and have had a beautiful experience until eating at this place. While we were seated right away, it was at least 10 minutes before someone came over to take our order. There was no greeting no hello nothing. I don't think our server even made eye contact with us. We ordered water and one beer. The waiter brought that without so much as a glance in our direction. We then Inalata Caprese for a shared appetizer. It was perhaps the most bland salad I have eaten. I lived four years in Italy and I know what good food taste like. This had no flavor at all. There was one basil leaf on a dinner size plate. The mozzarella was not di Buffala. It tasted processed and packaged and was hard. I ate one slice with a tomato and stopped. My husband ordered the.Gnocchi Sorrentina - which was overcooked and dry. The sauce was not fresh. It tasted like it came from a can. It looked good, but looks were deceiving. I was excited to finally get authentic carbonara in Italy. It has been quite some time since I experienced this first hand. I have yet to find a restaurant in the United States that can make this recipe correctly. I thought for sure I would find it in Italy. The dish came out way undercooked. The pasta was fine, but the carbonara was disgusting. The yolks were runny. Anyone who knows authentic carbonara knows this is not how it is made. Ge eggs and cheese unite with the hot pasta and water to make a sauce that softly clings to the spaghetti, I took about three bites and couldn't finish my meal. I actually cried at the table because I was so disappointed. I explained to my server in Italian that the eggs were undercooked and I was disappointed. He stood there and argued with me that I did not know anything about carbonara because this is how it is made. He had no compassion and zero interest in creating a positive experience for his clients. I didn't have the energy to discuss this with tears running down my face so I abruptly stopped talking. He snatched up my plate in anger and stomped off never to return to our table. we had to ask another waiter for our bill. Additionally, the bread was stale and hard and served in a paper bag versus serving it on a plate or in a basket. Additionally, I used the bathroom before we left and was dismayed to see there was no toilet seat in the ladies bathroom and the light went out in the middle of my using it. Furthermore, there were bloody tissues all over the floor; it was disgusting. If I can save anybody the trouble of eating at this place I hope my review does that. We had a lovely day and this experience for dinner ruined what could've been a perfect day. Avoid this place. It's a nasty tourist trap! read more

The great thing about this place is its variety. I'd call it a restaurant instead of a bar. They serve actual meals. They have a plentiful array of desserts. You can order coffee or liquor. They also have a chilled fridge of multiple brands of bottled water. Their purpose definitely caters to the needs of people passing through. What I found somewhat confusing though, is if you dine-in, you sit first and order; pay the cashier later. However, at other caffes you order, pay, and sit. Then again at some other caffes you order, sit, and pay the server. Regardless of that, the servers are really pleasant and the location is convenient. I recommend their delizia with caffe amaro, espresso, or cappuccino minus any sugar. They have fragola and limone. Have BOTH! I tried their salmon dinner which was prepared hot and crispy. We had a wonderful meal here while on vacation in Italy. When another place in town refused us service (quite rudely, and despite having many open tables) we happened upon Veneruso. The service was attentive and the food was fresh. Unfortunately they were out of the apple desert but we could choose from several others in their pastry display. If we are lucky to find ourselves back in Sorrento we would be happy to eat here again! read more

We were hooked as soon as we saw the large selection of pastries in the window. Then we went inside and saw even more pastries on display in the large glass display case. We ended up going there for breakfast everyday during our 5-day stay in Sorrento. The staff was very patient with us as we attempted to decipher the process of ordering food and coffee, which is very different from the USA. The food and cappuccinos were spectacular, the service was very good and the prices were ver reasonable. We went back at night to treat ourselves to their gelato, and it was worth every calorie. Made the mistake of eating here for dinner. The first red flag was getting a table. Several staff walked past us as we stood at the entrance and didn't acknowledge us. When seated it took a while to order as we waited for a server. At that point we should have left but sadly we didn't. Airplane food tastes better than the food served here. When paying by credit card the server had the nerve to ask if I wanted to leave a tip (even though they already added their service charge). We get off the tour bus and I just want to sit down and have a drink. I noticed all my 3 p.m. reviews sort of start off that way.... BOOM! Bar Veneruso is right there. It's outside seating was perfecto! We were able to relax and watch the world go by while enjoying a drink and a pre-dinner snack. I wish I could review the pastry shop separately from the restaurant but people need to stay away from the restaurant. We had wonderful dining experiences in Sorrento up until we came here. The service was abysmal, the servers looked miserable, and the food was ok at best. And it was obnoxiously one of the more expensive places. I've actually had better pasta at random American Italian chain restaurants. We had to flag down a waitress to ask for bread, we hardly saw our server. Another family had to shout at some random staff member walking by to get their check. But the one star is for the cleanliness issue - we watched one of the guys at the pizza oven blow his nose, throw the napkin in the trash, and proceed to touch the raw dough with his bare hands...without washing his hands. We were so glad we hadn't ordered pizza there. We practically ran out of the restaurant after I paid. Go to Azz! across the street. Their food is incredible and the staff is kind. read more

Some friends and I came here for gelato last Saturday. The small was an alright amount for 2€; not bad. They mainly only offered the typical flavors, but I tried to get the most unique ones that they had, which ended up being zuppa inglese and alpenliebe.
