The food is North African so expect lots of yummy couscous and tagines. I can highly recommend the lamb and apricot tagine but I always find making a decision between this and their fish difficult. Often they have specials, including plenty of fish dishes, depending on what is in season and what they sourced that day at the market. It doesn't serve alcohol and this normally divides my friends. Most are happy to save some money and go to the off licence before hand. Others are disappointed they can't have a decent gin and tonic but you can even get those in a can these days so as long as you plan ahead everyone should be happy. It is very cosy inside especially when it is busy (most of the time) but this combined with the friendly staff make for a memorable evening. An ideal place for special occasions such as birthdays.

My friend ordered a spicy dish that was a little too spicy for his tastes. He flagged down the server and asked if there was any sort of sauce that he could have to offset the spiciness. Yoghurt sauce? Tomato sauce? Anything? And the server said no. He said they didn't have any sauce. What sort of restaurant has no kind of sauce at all? None, I think. I really think we just had the bad luck of getting a server that didn't feel like doing any extra work. Totally lame.

Our only 'complaint' would be that now Henri's is a restaurant rather than a pub, I had expected a little more from the staff. We weren't greeted or checked on by the manager, who was milling around the entire time. The second time was fabulous. The food outstanding. Again, a great waitress and this time we had personal interactions with the manager & the chef also walked through & stopped at our table. The 3rd time I found the food to be a little disappointing & we did wait a long time for dessert. We knew the chef this night was different to the 2nd time. Whilst I had been aware that something new was coming to Bennett's Hill - I had no idea what that would be. Tapas is getting really big in the City at the moment. I love Tapas (both as a food and a concept). Small plates shared around a table of friends - it's a great way to try lots of things without being so stuffed you can't move at the end of a meal. I was super excited to learn that Amantia was a new Spanish restaurant with a focus on Tapas! I booked a table for lunch for 4 of us on the Saturday and perused the menu. There are lots of different types of Tapas starting from £5 and going all the way up to £10 for a meat board. Although it's not the cheapest, the prices seemed fair for a restaurant offering something different, good quality and in it's location in the centre of town. We hungrily walked down on Saturday excited to try something new! The restaurant itself looks great! Deep purple walls, smart furnishings and little touches of Spanish flair - it's so good to see this space being used and looking different. We were greeted straight away by the friendly staff and our table had been laid out prior to our arrival. Whilst we were waiting for our lunch companions, we decided to order a bottle of wine. We went for a bottle of white (which wasn't too badly priced at around £16) and had another look at the menu. When everyone was settled, we were ready to order! Although the menu recommends three tapas dishes per person, we went for two each and chose a selection of dates with cheese and bacon, pastry parcels with chorizo and black pudding and a whole range of different options off the menu. Everything ended up being amazing. The dates were a particular surprise (and a table favourite), as well as the aubergine chips and the black pudding parcels. Although we were pretty full by the end, me and Dan ordered a cheese board (with a glass of sherry) and Stuart ordered a almond cake. We were mightily impressed with the "cheese to cracker" ratio (more cheese than crackers) and the Sherry really complimented the cheese choices. All together our bill came to around £110 with tip (which wasn't bad for 9 dishes of tapas, a bottle of wine, two lagers, a glass of red wine, a sharing platter of cheese with sherry and a cake). The service, decor and food were all sublime and I was definitely impressed with this new offering.

The chicken and chorizo one was really good but definitely had strong seasoning which others might not enjoy. I think I will be back for more tapas, in any case! Churros and chocolate for dessert... so delicious. The decor is very simple and elegant, although a bit too bare for me personally, I personally think the place could use a bit more 'flavor' in it's interior design to match the food. But it didn't really detract from the experience. All of the staff we encountered were very friendly and attentive, even with an incredibly large group.

Marco Pierre White Steakhouse, Bar & Grill in Birmingham really is something special - it is one of…read moretwo MPW restaurant in Birmingham, interestingly both of which are located inside The Cube, with Bardolino on the 5th floor, and then all the way up to the 25th floor is Marco Pierre White Steakhouse which is only accessed through the elevators inside Hotel Indigo - I don't have a problem with this as that lift is designed to be fast as climbing 70 meters certainly is tricky and you don't want to be stopping on every floor along the way to getting something to eat. Being on the top and 25th floor of The Cube and Hotel Indigo building, the views are stunning - there is a terrace where you can grab something to eat or drink looking across the whole of the city, or if you prefer to sit inside, the full glass panoramic views give you still a brilliant view of the city which makes it such a great place to grab anything from an alcoholic beverage, meal or even an Afternoon Tea which is £19.95 per person, which is actually cheaper than many hotels - good value! Many of the reviews do mention this place is pricey - it might be in certain areas with some dishes costing £70 but you just have to know what to order - I find the set menu to be really well priced at £20 for 2 courses, and the Afternoon Tea is really reasonable too especially considering the views and quality. The staff here seemed really attentive, constantly checking up to make sure everything was okay to the point I couldn't refuse to pay the service charge as the staff certainly did deserve it - although my general feelings towards adding a service charge is well-known. They were generally happy to modify any dish for me to make it gluten-free which I liked, although I would have liked more of a what to expect and what they'd do rather than having to ask about each dish, in particular, I found this to also be similar with Bardolino downstairs. I've dined at numerous MPW restaurants across many chains - some of them I've found to be pretty hit and miss, most of them, however, was pretty good and this is arguably one of the best amongst them including great locations in the likes of Liverpool and Manchester (Sadly this also includes bad locations in the likes of Leeds and Newcastle), the latter also being a part of this Steakhouse brand meaning they serve the same menu. For my starter, I ordered the tomato soup - this was presented with fresh gluten-free bread, for a starter, it was a huge portion and it was a really well seasoned, good-quality soup - I would have preferred other soups from the menu however but still I don't regret ordering this one. For my main, I opted for the 6 oz steak with pomme frites, the chips again were fresh, tasty and well-seasoned and my steak was seasoned really well, I didn't like how I had to pick between the two extremes of either pink or well-done, as I'm more of a medium well person (slightly pink), but this was down to the size of the steak which still had a coating to ensure it wasn't dry and had great flavour - having to pay around £4 for an extra sauce to go with it was a little much though - I ended up opting for ketchup and honestly the steak didn't need a sauce, it was tasty on its' own in the steak juices. For dessert, I shared ice cream with my friend - the menu didn't state the flavours which would be delivered which I feel for the price they normally charge it should - Madagascan Vanilla with fresh pieces (my favourite) - Chocolate with little chocolate pieces inside (my friend's favour) - Salted caramel (I couldn't fully identify this one!) Regarding the main menu, I would have liked more choice for gluten-free as many of the fish dishes appeared to contain gluten for example. This place is certainly a special place to mark a special occasion or even make a special end to a trip to Birmingham, the latter was the reason I decided to come, and although this location might not have as many promotional offers as other MPW restaurants, including the Liverpool location of the same brand which offers 241 via Meerkat Meals or Tastecard, which is also inside a Hotel Indigo, it still is really worth it in most cases - a big improvement would be to explain the menu and what one should expect in full detail to avoid confusion, including how they'd adapt a dish to be gluten-free because I don't want to talk through every dish with my server etc. A great quality restauraunt by an awesome celebrity chef who even trained Gordon Ramsay and one of his better locations too - which is actually quite hard to achieve on its' own! Stunning views and some really reasonable prices in regards to Afternoon Tea + set menu, really do warrant a strong four-star rating in my books and I will certainly be returning next time I'm in the West Midlands City!

Food wise this place lives up to the hype. The ala carte menu (which unless you are in a big group you'll be eating from, this isn't a taster menu place), although not too long, was completely jam packed with food I wanted to eat making it was genuinely difficult to narrow down to just two dishes! I had a quail starter, complete with outrageously tasty quail scotch egg, which was beautifully cooked, gorgeously spiced, a real delight to eat. Main was venison, a loin and a small curry next to it which was an awesome meld of anglo-indian and again lit up my palette in all the right ways. They have a full bar here and the drinks are quite well priced for a high end fine dining restaurant, a bottle of wine starts at around £25. The staff were good, they answered my questions and gave recommendations and made sure that my glass was always full but didn't get in the way of the food, which is the perfect type of service for me. Prices are also very reasonable considering that this is one of the best places in the city, going ala carte gives the flexibility to suit most budgets, although it is by no means cheap. I absolutely can't wait to go again, I wasn't kidding when I said I wanted to eat everything on the menu, I WANT TO EAT EVERYTHING ON THE MENU!

To give you a bit of background, Lasan has been around since 2002 but due to the steady increase in the number of awards it has received over the years (British curry awards, Gordon Ramsay's 'F Word - Best Local restaurant' and BBC's 'Great British Menu') it has gained a reputation to impress. The venue itself is just off St Paul's Square, so very easy to get to from the City. There is no parking available, but street parking is plentiful around the area. The restaurant itself is classy and intimate. On a Sunday lunchtime at 1:30, you would still struggle to get a table if you hadn't booked. We enjoyed a lovely bottle of Malbec (shared between 4) for £24 whilst our starters were bought out. Between succulent pieces of meat, fish and delicious vegetable sides; we got a chance to try everything. The Salmon was truly amazing. The mains were also impressive with a chicken dish, a mutton curry, a fish curry, aromatic rice and fresh naan. The meal was rounded off with 'Gulab Jamoon Aur Rabri' (Warm Khoya roundels with North Indian cardamom scented custard). I hadn't tried this before, but would love to have it again! The food, the wine, the company and the setting were perfect. £19.95 was a very reasonable price to pay, but I would recommend you give it a go now. The normal banquet price starts at £30.95!

We both plumped for the same pud, cola cake, as it tempted us oddly (must ignore curiosity cola puns...) and it was one of the oddest textures i've had, heading towards jelly like.
