We stayed at Le Marin in Auray, France in November 2014. We were really happy with our stay there…read more Located by the Port of St. Gousteau, Auray, it was an idyllic place to visit and had some wonderful history as well as a great location to investigate the surrounding areas. The quarters were close but the hotel was charming as were the proprietors; Eddy and Corinne. They were so kind and helpful. Part of our party, my sister and her husband, arrived earlier that evening and myself and my partner were visiting the wondrous Mont Saint-Michel and would be arriving later that night. Eddy provided my brother-in-law with our room key and said we could come down the next morning to take care of the paperwork. The morning breakfast of croissant, yogurt, fresh orange juice, coffee, and Corrine's and Eddy's freshly made jams were wonderful. So much detail was put into their wonderful hotel. I would highly recommend it.

When searching for a hotel, I couldn't believe we could actually stay on the Tumulus (burial site mountain built 4700 before present), but it is real, and I have photos to prove it. Our room was clean with a nice shower and standard furnishings. Room 14 has windows on two sides, so I highly recommend it for its views. We also paid for a complete breakfast buffet, which has a wide assortment of pastries, since it is a 5-minute walk into town. There is a teamaker in the room, as well. The bar has great views and nice service. There is also a pool, with views of the ocean far below. It is a great place to stay when visiting the Carnac stones and prehistoric museum.

I had a private room facing the ocean, small but more than adequate. The medical treatment at the spa is high quality and is by prescription from your physician so it is Germaine to your personal issues. It really relieved my pain. It is immaculate, ultra clean and magnifique!!! I speak French and although the majority of the clientele is French, I don't think an English speaker would have a problem. I drove from the Paris area and spent a glorious night in Rennes en route, however, it is reachable by train from Paris.

The hotel is away from the congestion of the town, an easy leisurely walk on a late spring day. With views of the coast and the marina, the Hotel Europa was a quiet place to rest and relax while on our busy tour. Note: Our waitress was an American, married to a local Breton, she enjoyed our company just for the opportunity to speak English. Here service, courtesy, knowledge of the area was an extra plus for us and a credit to her employer.

The hotel is removed from the congested and popular downtown area and so offers restfulness and serenity. Yet, it is only minutes by car from the revelry in centre-ville. This is a family-owned hotel and the very friendly proprietors extend themselves in many ways to make sure their guests feel well taken care of. A buffet-style breakfast is offered with croissants, baguette, cereal, yogurt, fruit, juice, hot chocolate, and a wide selection of coffee and tea. There is no elevator, but the staff is readily available to assist with luggage. The owners really know how to run a first-class operation!
