Definitely more upscale then most places we ate at in Barcelona, but not pretentious. Reservations are a good idea and their AC is nice and cool. Veggie croquet: Tasted fine but I didnt love this. Beef stuffed inside bread: Its beautiful and looks like a chocolate truffle. It was a bit sweet for me, but overall it was fine. Artichoke leaves: Comes with a hefty portion of diced olives which my wife hates but she enjoyed the artichoke. Octopus shareable (I forget the name): My wife was floored by how good this was. She wanted 100 more... Chicken canneloni with foie gras: Decadent! Very tasty with lots of unique flavors. So rich and creamy, this was nothing like I expected and it was fantastic. Iberico ham and pasta (forgot the name): This was the star of the night! Very rich and decadent (I hate repeating myself but I have to). This dish will give you gout if eaten frequently. Utterly delicious. "French toast dessert": Their signature dessert for over 20 years. Imagine a better version of creme brulle but with French toast. It also comes with a scoop of hazelnut ice cream which really brings it all together. Definitely a fish forward restaurant, but their meat dishes stole the show. read more

We visited Bar Mut on the recommendation of friends, who had visited Spain a couple years ago. It was also recommended by our tour guide. The restaurant opens for dinner at 7:15 pm. We made reservations on Google. At 7 pm people were waiting to get in. The restaurant filled up quickly. Our waiter spoke fluent English and was very helpful with recommendations. We opted for some tapas to start. The beef tartare, artichoke salad, and mussels were all excellent. For entrees we had a slow simmered pork and cannelloni with foie gras. Both were rich in flavor and delicious. The staff are quick and courteous. All the food came out hot. Plates and utensils were replaced with each dish. This restaurant is open until midnight and looks like a fun place to cap off your evening. read more

The food was decent, but the pricing was honestly shocking! I ordered what I thought was a paella with shrimp and was served a small portion of rice with three tiny shrimps. When the bill came, I was charged €132 for that one dish (listed as 0.66 "amb gambes" on the receipt). That comes out to €44 per shrimp, see attached photo. There was no mention of market price on the menu, and while the staff explained a lot about the dishes, I'm not sure the pricing for the shrimp was clearly covered. Maybe something was lost in translation, but I definitely was not expecting that kind of charge. I live in a major city in California and I'm still surprised by how overpriced this was. The dish itself was just okay, but certainly not worth that price. After reading other reviews, I noticed a pattern of similar experiences with unexpected seafood pricing. Make a reservation on Google if you can before you get there. Cool spot and you could get lucky if there are open spots outside if you don't have a reservation. They don't have permanent menus, they have a daily menu inside. One with tapas, one with main dishes. Everything is in Catalan language so an English speaking waitress came to our table and explained which is which. Pulpollo - grilled octopus on a chicken skin chip with incredible aioli on top. The lamb chop with eggplant (aubergine) and yucca was delicious. They actually turned people without a reservation away(politely). We went with our local friends, so they already know the waiters and what to order. Everything is super tasty! Great wine list. This was another of the highly recommended spots we tried in Barcelona, that ultimately did not impress. The seafood is quite good, let's be very honest about that, but their getting fresh stuff like everyone else, so as long as they don't mess it up, it's going to be good. Everywhere we had seafood in Barcelona was excellent, so this place gets no kudos for doing it right. The paella on the other hand - - well, I guess someone should have mentioned this is not your typical paella. The rice is cooked in a very heavy, dark sauce, that it quite overpowering. To eat a bite of rice and fish, the rice is so strongly seasoned that it overpowers the fish. This is how they make all their paella's, it's not an accident. Obviously there are people out there who like that flavor, but I can tell you that is was not pleasant for me. On top it all, the cost for the paella was around 50 Euro for the mussels and prawns, and 90 Euro for the prawns and scorpion fish. A few days later we ordered paella from a small little cafe in the first plaza 400 meters NW of Bar Mut (Plaça de la Vila de Gràcia). Cannot remember the name of the cafe (not on Yelp - yet), but it was in the SW corner of the plaza, and they have outdoor seating for lunch and dinner (always busy, so you may have to wait). Anyway, the paella at this little cafe in the plaza was light years better than Bar Mut's paella. The prawns were just as delicious, plus it included mussels, calamari and langoustine, and it cost only 15 euro. Save your money and and walk a bit further up the road for some better paella. As for the rest of the place, it's not bad, it's just not all it's hyped up to be. read more

On my Top 10 dining experience to date. Bar Mut is simple, elegant & F'in delicious. Price range was slightly more expensive on average but I agreed that it was worth the dining. Reservations are mandatory & we still met with a wait. *helpful hint: there is a RnR cocktail lounge across the street that was awesome. Go!! Seating was tight but service was friendly, relaxed & knowledgeable. A small group would most like work well. We let our waitress choose our dishes & she NAILED IT!! Everything that came out of the kitchen was a 10. Presentation, flavor & approachability. Wine pairings were suggested by Bar Mut's steward. The selections paired phenomenally. Great experience. Understand the menu changes weekly. My experience my not be yours, but i must give Bar Mut my acknowledgment and blessings for a wonderful evening at their establishment. This place is the bomb. I went here for lunch alone, and felt kind of awkward about it. But this is the perfect place to eat lunch alone. It's sort of small and bar seating, but very airy and light on the inside, so very beautiful and aesthetic in its own way. I think it was obvious that I felt weird about eating alone so the staff was so nice to me. They helped me order everything because I didn't know it was good or in season. They recommended a very crisp, white wine that went perfectly with all the seafood. They help me navigate ordering, seafood too and said the shrimp was extremely fresh, and a stand out. I got that and tuna tartare - also extremely fresh. Finally, I didn't want to be too full, but I had to get this octopus on top of potatoes because I thought octopus in Spain is a must. I'm so glad I did. I think about this octopus every day. It was seasoned and tossed with a sauce is so good. It was perfectly cooked so it's tender on the inside and crisp on the edges. And pairing it with this potato purée was first of all the perfect amount of food and second of all flavor wise incredible. So glad I went. Had a reservation and didn't get sat for 30 minutes... they gave us a table to sit at outside while we wait after 20ish minutes and gave us a free little glass of cava but after 35 minutes we just left. They didn't offer us a menu to order an appetizer or anything and sat a group of 6 that just walked in when we had a reservation... Probably a cultural difference and the hostess is very nice but I wouldn't recommend making a reservation as they clearly don't honor them. read more

Our first meal in Spain/Barcelona and it was the first of many delicious meals. We landed in Barcelona and wasted no time with a 3 hour tour at the Picaso Museum at 4pm followed by dinner at 7:30pm. I figured we would be the only people eating at the restaurant at 7:30pm, but I was so exhausted after a day of travel that couldn't make it much longer. I was half asleep at the dinner table, but it didn't stop us from enjoying many different tapas at one of their lovely outdoor tables. The restaurant itself (including the outdoors) is super small and busy so highly recommend booking a reservation. Everything we ate and drank was wonderful; I don't think you can go wrong with anything at Bar Mut. Like many restaurants in Spain the food came out very slowly, although we noticed our neighboring tables seemed to get their food much faster so perhaps it was just us. We waited 30+ min alone for a sirloin dish (well worth the wait). When it finally arrived we mentioned to our waiter we would like to have some dessert and he let us know that was possible, but we had 5 min to eat it since they needed to turnover our table. We thought that was pretty funny considering the reason we were still at the table after so many hours was because of the slow service. However, the cheesecake we had was so good it was hard not to devour it in 5 min. I was so tired that it's hard to remember most of my meal, but that just means I'm going to have to go back the next time I'm in Barcelona. read more

Amazing tapas in a gorgeous setting!!! My friend recommended Bar Mut to me and this place was so divine. It was the very first reservation I made for the evening I landed in Barcelona and superb in every way. I had a 1015p rezzie and sat at the front bar in front of the seafood selections. I ordered a glass of Cava that was recommended for me, yum! Then a dish of green olives was presented to me. I have never ever in my life eaten olives, I just do not like them but for some reason something told me just be polite and nibble on one so it doesn't appear you are rude and despise olives and to my surprise they were really good! I ate 10. Service was so friendly and I took their suggestions on all of the dishes I ordered. My favorite being the foie gras dish, wow wow wow!!! This one is just mind blowing in flavor. I loved it but everything was really great. There isn't a menu so I can't name all of the items I ate other than a traditional bread with olive oil and tomatoes which was so yummy, a ham croquette, a seafood dish that was very tasty and a dessert they referred to as french toast. I'd highly recommend Bar Mut. Perfect for everyone. They also snagged a cab for me to return me to my hotel instead of walking since it was fairly late when I left. I did walk here from Playa Catalunya which was a really nice bustling, energetic walk around 10p on a Saturday. Might possibly be one of my fav meals in Barcelona, but I had some really great dishes all over town so I'll just leave you with this is a must book reservation. read more

Suggested to us by our driver-the criteria we gave him was to recommend a tapas place they would go to. Great choice! This was not a place full of tourists but lots of locals. There was no "menu" but rather the server gave us a bunch of suggestions and it was all good. I will not go into detail on all the selections we chose (or recommended by our server)-just look at my pictures. All of the tapas selections was very good! The taste was very good, the portions was good for our group. The service from the many different servers etc was very polite, prompt and efficient. The highlights were the shrimp tartar and their Catalonian style paella, which is made with whatever fresh seafood you choose from their seafood bar. I've never experienced anything like this. A friend recommended this place, it just so happened to be close to our hotel which was a bonus. Came here for dinner, it's a reservation only place but got lucky without one. We dined outside by the window. The service was amazing, came in a timely manner, made sure the table were clean. The dishes were flowing, we ordered a couple of tapas via word of mouth since they don't have physical menus which is the reason why I gave it 4/5. It was hard to process so I picked what sounded decent. Surprising everything that we picked, all came out Delicious. Our favorite dish would be the leek croquet, the clams, braised lamb cheeks and French toast for dessert. Who knew French toast is a way better desert than breakfast. Spending a week in Barcelona means experiencing no end of exemplary culinary delights. Bearing an undying love of Mediterranean cuisine, my wife and I enjoyed every meal we had, but Bar Mut deserves special mention. With Tapas bars aplenty throughout the city, Bar Mut stands out by taking on a more curated approach to their menu. While any patron could simply make selections from the daily options posted on the chalkboard by the bar, I highly recommend letting the server take the wheel. You will not be disappointed. After specifying our dietary restrictions (my wife is pescatarian), we were treated to a lovely tasting menu that included some expected classics and several surprises. The egg carpaccio was something I had never heard of before this meal, a delightfully runny egg concoction topped with crispy fried potato that absolutely must be tried. The clams were a more conventional highlight, bathed as they were in a delicious garlic-butter sauce that begged for bread to sop up what remained. The straciatella salad, while maybe not the most wholesome way to eat vegetables, was delectably indulgent. They even served a half-portion of their beef dish just for me, topped with sinfully silky foie gras that simply oozed decadence. Topping off the meal with a whole fish that was portioned out with veggies for the two of us ended things perfectly. While definitely more of a splurge than your average Tapas place, Bar Mut is definitely worthwhile for a more elegant evening out in Barcelona. read more

FANTASTIC tapas spot and wine bar! I just returned from a vacation in Spain, and Bar Mut was an absolute highlight. The menu changes daily, and it's displayed on a blackboard by the bar. The server can walk you through the offerings (in Spanish, English, or Catalan!) All the dishes we ordered were phenomenal; contemporary, unique twists on a lot of classic tapas dishes. The unique take on pan con tomate and the croquetas were highlights, along with the grilled octopus over mashed potatoes. I'm not usually an octopus gal, but this was the best octopus of my entire life. The space is really cute and contemporary as well. Can't recommend enough if you're in Barcelona. read more

Stopped by this place given all the good reviews. Whats interesting is they have no menu here. You can either ask them to tell you their specials and menu of the day, or tell them what you like and don't like and they choose for you. Cool concept but might not be for everyone. We had the beef tartare, which was served with crispy polenta fries on the side. That was different, didn't really think the polenta complemented the dish though. The beef meat was fresh and flavourful. Ordered sea bream which was surprisingly cooked really well. My favorite dish of the night. The meat was soft and tender, cooked just right. Had a nice char taste too it which was surprising since it was oven baked. Lastly we also ordered mussels, which was tasty as well but nothing special imo. All seafood was fresh, which isn't surprising given we are right by the water. Food was good but I wasn't super wowed. Service was ok, food did come out slow. read more
