Old school tapas, bullfight bar…read more I think every visit to Jerez should have at least one visit to La Moderna. It's old school, it's been there forever, all the locals go. Tapas are not particularly memorable but dirt cheap... all under €2.00. Go for the feeling of timelessness, the bullfight photos, the oldtimers chatting at the bar. Great place.

My husband and I devoured the churros and smothered them with their delicious hot chocolate dip. Excellent value for $6! Our go to spot for churros!

We finally managed to squeeze behind all them and we grabbed the last table in the back. One guy was serving the dining area and was hopping. He briefed us that only churros/chocolate and montaditos (like a panini sandwich) were being served. Like most of the people dining that night we got their famous churros and chocolates. Since we sat near the fryer, it was the perfect opportunity to watch them swirl around the dough in hot oil to make their spiral shaped churros. The plate of torn up churros was delivered hot and a little greasy. The dipping chocolate was smooth and just coated our churros as the must have side. However the churros were a little more oily than I preferred. Our montaditos came last and were right sized for us. Bread was grilled and a little crisp with generous tuna or jamon inside. It was a nice counter to our churros. Overall reasonable prices and lively spot for a quick meal or just churros.

This will be an small note about El Colmado's breakfasts…read more They have a traditional list of tostadas where you can find the common tastes of Seville. Out of the list you can see daily specials as "Sobrasada with cheese and eggs". I couldn't take a picture of it because when I saw this masterpiece I had to eat it quickly. It is a very recommended place to have a quiet and different breakfast.

They used to have a place decades ago downtown next to the public mercado downtown but moved here. Muscle Man Dani who waits and serves the outdoor tables is fast. Antonio is usually behind the bar. By 1:30pm they are already cleaning and readying to close so get here earlier. Churros are thin but the only ones around that I've had that taste sooooo much better. Be here by 11:30 if you want any - if they run out of dough they'll not offer any churros. Usually packed between 10am and 1pm. They are open the same hours Sunday when Antonio's Dad works the tables and shouts out the orders in a slightly "loud" voice. He's unique and a Rota icon. I usually come here to have a cafe manchado while reading the Diario de Cadiz.

If you are okay with forgoing a coffee in the morning, I definitely recommend ordering this "combo" instead of the Goji Kickstarter (which comes with a small yogurt bowl, small toast, orange juice and coffee). After hearing about this place for a little over a year, we finally got to try it out…read more There aren't that many places in the Rota/Puerto area that offer breakfast options. The ones that do are just so-so. They offer a lot of breakfast options as well as coffee frappes, smoothies and milkshakes. We sampled the american breakfast (2 eggs, bacon, grilled tomatoes, grilled cheese bread, one pancake and sausage) and the everything croissant (eggs, mushrooms, cheese, chorizo). Both were so delicious and big portions as well! My strawberry smoothie was refreshing and i was surprised at how big the small portion was. The littles split a nutella crepe and it looked good as well, I didn't get a chance to try it since i was busy with my breakfast. Super friendly staff and Very cute inside. Has about 6-7 tables inside and they also provide outdoor seating. It was my first time here so from what i could tell, it was mostly street parking. They take credit card &cash.
