Honestly has to be my new favourite place in Seattle! The food is delicious, they make a great cocktail and thé service is phenomenal. I also love that it's a small space - I often feel overwhelmed at US restaurants as they are so large. Bar sur mer however is just the right size. We shared lots of food - including a tomato salad, steak tartar and iberico ham. It was all absolutely delicious. I was particularly happy with the steak tartar as it was very simply which is my favorite way to eat this dish. I would highly recommend going to Bar Sur Mer even though I want to keep this place to myself! read more

Bar Sur Mer is a great addition to the Greenwood neighborhood! As a long time fan of Flintcreek I was excited when I saw the neon sign go up and learned that the restaurants shared an owner. We ordered oysters to start and decided we needed to try the steak tartare as well. Both dishes were excellent. It is on the pricier side for the neighborhood (as is Flintcreek) but we'll worth the cost! read more

Greenwood is getting fancy, and Bar Sur Mer is a great addition to the neighborhood. From the folks behind Flint Creek, we now have a seafood centric bar around the corner. It's a small space but with high ceilings and well-spaced tables, it's a very open and comfortable room. There is a small bar, and off to the side is a huge wood fired oven, which is well utilized in the menu. Started off with the boquerenos (anchovies) which were good but a very small portion. The squid with frisee, and while the squid was chopped into smaller pieces, the wood fired treatment impacts a lot of flavor -a very satisfying dish. The mackerel with a soy glaze was probably our fave and one of the tastiest things I've had in awhile. I could have eaten 3 of these! Didn't have dessert but had a couple of the cocktails but as a manhattan lover, the sao martinho hit the spot - rye, amontillado sherry, yzaguirre sweet vermouth, peychauds, black walnut bitters, lemon peel. Service was solid all around. Overall, a great dining experience - it's a bit pricey but worth the $$. read more

Another great spot by FlintCreek's Eric Donnelly. We enjoyed some wonderful craft cocktails including the Hobie Cat, which was delicious and refreshing. As for food, we enjoyed the hongos, which was a delicious mushroom appetizer and the Manila clams. My fiancé is a huge fan of clams so he loved this dish! We didn't stay long bc we had a reservation next door at FlintCreek, but we will definitely be back! read more

We've been waiting for this spot to open for a while, and were ready to check it out when they finally did. The place is small, and filled up quickly. We arrived right after they opened, and got a table in the bar area right away. By the time we left, there was a waiting list. Service was very attentive without being over bearing. Staff was extremely friendly, and seemed very knowledgeable about the menu. We tried 3 cocktails from the menu, all were very creative and tasty. We also tried 4 of the small plates which were also really good. The menu is just small plates, and the prices can add up, but it won't disappoint. We're looking forward to our next visit! read more

Came in with a girlfriend for end-of-summer gin & tonics and have no complaints. Beautiful restaurant/bar that feels like a fishbowl, and I mean that in the best way possible. Large windows and high ceilings make this intimate space feel bright and open. I take it a reservation is recommended, but we walked in around 6pm on a weekday and had our pick of tables, though they filled up pretty quickly soon after. All of their specialty cocktails ($13-17) sounded worthwhile. We had a Blueberry Lavender G&T (brovo gin, house-made blueberry lavender tonic, lemon) and a Spanish G&T (nordes gin, yzaguirre blanco, tonic, lemon, thyme, juniper), and both were gorgeously presented and perfectly balanced. Tapas menu is fairly traditional Spanish, so not very vegetarian friendly. But if you eat fish (or meat), you'll do well here. We shared the heirloom tomato salad ($16) and olives & boquerones ($7). Both were bursting with flavor. I saw several things I'd like to try so definitely plan on returning. read more

Nice space. Great service. Have been looking forward to trying this new addition to Greenwood. Ordered 5 plates, 7 drinks for our group of 4. Drinks were delicious. Food was tasty. Food portions were so tiny! $300 later and we were all still very hungry and, no joke, went to Dick's. We estimated it would take more than 4 plates EACH for it to be even close to a light meal. Visited this place with my girl a few weeks ago and we were ignored for 20 minutes before we left. No offer of water, appetizers, or anything. They were busy but everyone else seemed to get service so I'm not sure what the deal was. Didn't feel very welcoming despite being in Greenwood which I would say is a very welcoming neighborhood. As my girlfriend and were leaving, no one stopped to ask us anything either. I have no clue what their food is like, but their customer service was horrible that day so we won't be back. read more

Sat at the bar with 5 minute wait. Great time watching the cooks do their magic and the solid bar menu be mixed. All the food was excellent and every cocktail right on the money. Mushrooms (hongos) were absolutely delicious. Iberico ham, clams in chorizo broth, and tomato salad rounded out a perfect bunch of dishes. Chose the super rich cod collars instead of a dessert and didn't regret a thing. Great spot. Highly recommend sitting at the bar for the great staff. read more

The food is good, the service is great, the interior is very cute, but this placed is overpriced in my opinion. I understand the concept of small plates, but $24 for 1 lamb meatball is kinda silly. Yes- there's an almond romesco and braised leek included with it but that's not enough to charge $24 for it. I also paid $16 for the Spanish Gin and Tonic which tasted the same as a well gin and tonic with the added addition of a sprig of thyme and some juniper. Don't get me wrong, everything was tasty, but it was overpriced and I didn't see the value of what I was getting. Great concept overall, but don't be surprised if the bill is high at the end of your meal. read more

The ratio from the price to food, it was ridiculous. We ordered some tapas but one small lamb meatball was $24. Even the server said the biggest portion will be the octopus, which was reasonably priced. We were very surprised the price didn't add up to the tiny tapa portions. It was basically a price of a regular entree. Ambience was nice but not worth it for the price you pay. Don't be fooled by the pictures you see of the portion. The drinks were okay, nothing to be amazed by. Not sure if I will return again. read more

Maybe we were there on an off night? This place seems like a great idea with exceptionally poor execution. Low quality food especially for the price point, verging on a down right scam. Food did *not* look like any of the pictures (not that this is necessary for a restaurant to be good but this level of dissonance verges on deception). Drinks were tasty and the bartender was nice but given they're doing pre-batched cocktails and using cheap mixers it feels massively overpriced. Also, I had a very poor service experience via the host. I'm hoping there's just some kinks they need to work out -- I suspect a lot of systems are not working as planned (kitchen size, ice capacity, even how they manage their waitlist (tl;dr the restaurant texts you when your table is ready and my host gave me attitude for taking 3 minutes to "show up to be seated" from the time the text came)). I really want to assume good intent on the restaurants part and just chalk this up to growing pains and an off night but it really was one of those experiences that was so unbelievably underwhelming (downright bad tasting, impersonal, and overpriced) it sent me into an existentialist rabbit hole on the state of society. read more
