We were the only Americans dining, and it was a pleasure to be surrounded by French patrons. Our food was truly first class. We both choose the prix fixe and we're not disappointed. We both had mushroom soup for the starter, which was finely made with an egg and bacon crumbles. The main course was cod fish. The desert, chocolate mouse cake and my companion, creme brûlée. The food was delicious, creative, and the restaurant hit all of the fine points with heated plates, clean silverware, hint of Rosemary with the brûlée, and local wine recommendations that were spot on for our tastes. Our waiter was friendly and spoke good English, even though we used French. Inside, the restaurant is quite beautiful and pleasing to look at. It being fall, we sat by the window and looked out upon empty outdoor tables as we dined. Tres bien!

The wait staff only speaks french, but they work with you and tried their best to understand my terrible rendering of the language. We had three bottles of wine there- yes we were very tipsy at the end (at least I was) but they were charming and helpful to the end. I got a dessert as well, an egg white delight floating in syrup which came in a martini glass. All kinds of awesome. The bathrooms are clean and well maintained as well. Fortunately, during our exploration, we chanced upon this pretty hotel with its sheltered terrace restaurant. We enjoyed the village and people-watching as we sat and savoured our leisurely lunch. I started with a local drink which might sound strange: violet-scented local white wine. It was fragrant and deliciously refreshing, like a lighter, more summery version of a kir. I moved-on to a tasty and filling goats cheese salad, served in a superfine pastry basket (akin to the finest filo pastry). I'm not renowned for having a huge lunch appetite but I relished each mouthful and cleared my plate (aside from the couple of tastes speared by my companion). We then shared a bowl filled with a couple of flavours of sumptuously smooth and unctuous ice-cream, followed by a restorative coffee. The small hotel on-site has a surprisingly modest two stars; although I can't vouch for whether the rooms surpass this rating, as we only indulged ourselves by spending time on the terrace. If you are visiting this lovely spot, don't miss-out on a wander through the village square and surroundings combined with a drive to take-in and admire the breathtaking beauty and serenity of the nearby Lac de Saint Croix.

He had the lamb and a chocolate molten cake while I had the chèvre salad, cod and creme brûlée. They were more than happy to help me know what I can and cannot eat for my gluten allergy. The server (sweet and beautifully elegant) spoke petite English (very little) and we spoke petite Francais (very little) but somehow we managed just perfectly! This restaurant was one of our top French meals of our 21 day trip to France (including Paris!).
