I preferred the co-ed spaces because it had the better equipment for the most part (as least where free weights were concerned). I liked that this place was very close to my home and I liked the sauna. The workout space that was usually for classes but they let us do exercises in there when classes weren't in session..perfect for people who are doing no-equipment workouts. It also has these big mirrors. Now, here's the thing...I think this facility needs some upgrades. The equipment is old and several machines were broken or taped up. There's also this lingering smell in the facility that smells like chemicals but also something else that triggered my nausea a few times. I never felt like the place was clean. The floor in the main area was lumpy and uneven. The carpet in the "women only" area was stained and looked dirty. I was not comfortable working out in the floor even with my mat. And the women's only area had a sad collection of weights, as if women don't care about free weights and only want to use machines? Anyway, I personally wouldn't recommend this gym, but maybe I was just too pampered by the LSU gym during my tenure there.

Unfortunately the truck broke down in Baton Rouge, Louisiana after driving for 12 hours. I then had to wait 4 hours for a tow truck. After making it to a auto shop I ubered to get some food and then walked to my normal happy place. THE GYM...as I waited to catch my last minute flight that I booked to go back home to Savannah. I came across this gym and decided to check it out. I paid $11 for a day pass to use the entire facility. I wanted to shower and see if it woke me up enough to want to train and relieve some much needed stress. Unfortunately, I was too tired to train so I decided to look around at their apparel, snacks and supplements. As I'm looking I see the manager (old blonde lady) and the young girl Jenna talking about me and giving me looks...I guess because I was rolling around a small carry on bag with my RedCon1 backpack. I then approached them and asked about the smoothie bar that they have with seating available. I paid about $15 more for a large smoothie and a couple of snacks while I waited another 30 mins to head to the airport and get checked in early. After I drank the smoothie at the bar I went to the bathroom to wash my hands and leave. Before I began to leave, I was trying to figure out the specific address to type in the Uber app to be picked up from there, so I proceeded to ask the manager...she was very short and rude with her responses and failed to make eye contact, until I sat down at the bench in front of the sign in desk where the manager immediately said "um no, no...you can't just hang out here, you need to leave." I replied "I'm sorry?...(immediately showed her my phone) I'm booking an Uber right now to leave?" The manager said "if you're not training you can't just hang out here, you need to leave, there is a bench outside." I said "well I paid for a day pass?" The manager replied "yeah no...there is a bench outside, you can't be in here." I said (in shock at how rude she was) umm okay... and walked outside. I was completely dumb founded. It's not like I'm some homeless looking guy walking around in normal clothes...I was wearing gym clothes, and had a gym bag...and was purchasing things and paid for a DAY PASS to be able to use and experience the facility. I strongly do not recommend coming to this location and do not wish to visit or sign up at any of their other locations due to this experience. If you plan to uphold a strong reputation as a business I suggest choosing wisely of the people you wish to represent and manage the business.

Not only is this a place to support physical health and well being - they also enrich the mind and the soul through incredible community events. Personally, I have always struggled with working out - always finding some way to injure myself. The IT community is incredible, authentic and purposeful.

They also offer nutrition coaching and body composition analyses. Having my body composition tested has been an empowering way to track my progress and keep motivated. At Iron Tribe, you're in and out in 45 minutes. I really appreciate their workouts that are designed to get me moving and working in an efficient way. There are no mirrors in the gym, so instead of looking at your form in the mirror, you'll need to listen to your body. In every class, you will learn standards of movement for the workout, and coaches will work with you to make sure your body is in safe alignment. I imagine that this greatly reduces injuries. There are well-stocked locker rooms with showers. Also inside the gym, they sell supplements and different kinds of energy drinks. They don't push them on you, but they're there if you need them/are curious. I look forward to my workouts. I've found that I'm no longer thinking about working out as torture or punishment. The coaches use language meant to empower you, rather than critique you. This was helpful for me as I was learning to use the equipment. It's also really fun, and everyone is nice. I was pleasantly surprised by what an encouraging and non-judgmental space it was. A membership is not cheap, but you're paying for more than a gym membership. It's more like a gym membership, personal training, nutrition coaching, and body composition testing. I'd recommend Iron Tribe to anyone.

The signup process was simple, but the terms weren't so pleasant: you are required to sign a year-long contract with monthly dues of $42.50. The only way to break contact without being assessed a fee is by moving more than 50 miles from the closest location. It felt like selling my soul to the devil, but ultimately it has been a worthwhile purchase. The gym is much smaller than the 24 Hour Fitness I belonged to in Dallas. It is pretty darn small, actually. To give you an idea of the setup, the cardio area has 5 treadmills, 4 bikes, 2 stair-climbers, and 8-10 ellipticals. There is a limited selection of freeweights, benches, & racks as well as approximately 20 weight machines. This is definitely a cardio-centric gym, which I'm fine with. Each piece of cardio equipment has a built-in TV with cable. Personally, I hate watching TV while exercising, but its a very popular feature. I wish there were music channels instead playing awesome exercise playlists. I guess I can always dream. The gym is open 24 hours and gives you access by means of an RFID key fob. There are cameras everywhere and fancy sensors that I don't even understand. All these security features let Anytime be open without a staff member present. I think that's a major plus. Nobody to critique my form on the stairmaster. I can see how it might scare some people, but if you're all alone at night, there are panic buttons you can wear around your neck. That's a serious commitment to safety. I know its January and people are working out because of their New Year's Resolutions, but frankly this gym is feeling crowded. It isn't a matter of adding more equipment either - there just isn't enough floorspace. I ended up grabbing some dumbells and working out in the fitness class room. That works, I suppose, but that's not exactly encouraging for newbies. Finally, a bit about the clientele: the MO seems to be young men and women who are just getting into the world of fitness. What I'm saying is there aren't many muscleheads benching 500 lbs and grunting.
