Come into this place and you know it is just an old school barbershop. This isn't a place that…read more'looks old school' or is 'retro' but it is legitimately a classic barbershop. They moved to this location some time in the mid-1990s but before that they were at the corner of Sheppard and Bathurst just a little bit east of the current location. The current location, to my memory, looks A LOT like the old location. I used to go to the old location when I was a kid until my mom stopped letting us go there because she had trouble getting myself and my 3 brothers away from the free arcade video games they have in the back to play while you wait. I started coming back once I was allowed to go for haircuts myself and have been going off an on ever since. They give a good haircut here. There are and always have been to my memory only two barbers in this spot - Tony and Joe - and I have always been strictly a Tony man. I seem to recall getting a hairctu by Joe around 2 decades ago and hating it (or maybe it was his style?) and have stuck with Tony ever since even waiting for him if/when Joe is free and Tony is busy. The place is old school, Tony and Joe have been cutting hair for around 3 decades that I know of and they are two Italian men who do nothing else. I have never seen a manicurist in here - like some places I have seen have - and know that when I go in, I'll get a good hair cut it'll be done quick and it'll be done as I asked. Also, Tony knows my entire family and always asks how my brothers are doing and my mom. I have given it a "moderate" for the cost because it is $18 for a man's haircut (March 2012 price). I don't know if that counts as moderate or not so let me know if I should change it. I am 99% sure they don't take credit cards but they might. Take a look at their cash register - in one of the pics I have uploaded - and you tell me if it is the kind of place that takes credit cards. Side note/ProTip: A lot of the clientele are Orthodox Jews who for some periods of the year can't get haircuts. This leads to the place being rammed by Jewish mothers and kids worried their hair is going to look unkempt during these periods and needing a haircut. The times to watch out for are around Easter (which falls the same time as Passover) and 33-35 days after the first day of Passover. As well, there is a period in the mid summer referred to as the "Three Weeks" which has a similar ruling on the hair cutting.

I was searching North York for a descent men hair stylist to bring some joy to my autistic son. I…read morewas looking for a place that is familiar with Pompadour style, which is one of the classics and offered by many salons in downtown Toronto. I was already ready to go downtown, when my Google search showed Duzz salon in North York that offers exactly this style among other classic ones. I was very excited for my son and I immediately booked online. I was offered 3 names and I selected Duzz thinking that if a person puts his own name as the title of his business, then that person has at least his best intentions and qualifications to do the proper job. The booking system asked for a description and we wrote "side-part Pomp fade, very short". Alas, my visit to Duzz hair salon happened to be the biggest mistake in my 25 years of visiting different hair salons in Toronto, especially for my son who now got into an inconsolable rage state for the last 24 hours. Looking into the last 3 images below, you will understand why. I paid top dollar for the service ($60 with the tip), but witnessed an unprecedented dilettantism in haircutting and only noticed that when I got home: MY SON'S HEAD WAS COVERED IN A VERY THICK LAYER OF THE GLUE-LIKE PRODUCT (SEE THE FIRST 5 PHOTOS BELOW) AS A COVER-UP FOR A SUBPAR JOB. Then I looked more closely and realized that this is not Pompadour style at all. This was a sloppy, amateurish attempt to cover utmost ignorance in the BASICS of haircutting. What Duzz did was to just slick back all the hair with a ton of product with MINIMAL haircutting. I know that many people will have a hard time believing that a salon SPECIALIZING in classic hair styles may render such a subpar service so I created some photos immediately after I left the salon and ONE day after. I must say that I should have become suspicious immediately when I entered the salon 5min before the appointment time. Instead of the usual greeting, me and my son were greeted with an attitude?! We were immediately asked if we entered the note on the online form and I confirmed we did. This style was what my autistic son wanted the other day and I remember thinking how smart it for Duzz to offer customers the option to briefly explain what the customer wants. Here is 5 photos of what this "Pompadour" looked like immediately after we left the salon: http://imageshack.com/a/img924/7149/l01ZzI.png http://imageshack.com/a/img924/8286/FhmY5f.png http://imageshack.com/a/img923/3323/wvn2lb.png http://imageshack.com/a/img923/8039/Evwvc4.png http://imageshack.com/a/img923/1707/AQRS23.png And here is how the "haircut" looked the very next morning: http://imageshack.com/a/img923/4323/wS2mxc.png http://imageshack.com/a/img924/7627/l24xsq.png http://imageshack.com/a/img922/3827/iLzSpw.png Customer beware ! Please, do yourself or your loved one a favour and go anywhere else but Duzz. EVEN IF YOU DO THE HAIRCUTTING YOURSELF, YOU WILL DO MUCH BETTER JOB THAN DUZZ. CONSIDER YOURSELF WARNED.

I will contextualize this review by the great work the barbers at Duzz. However, why I gave this…read moreshop such a low rating, instead of higher, because of the pretentious twaddle the owner and my barber teaming up on me advising me that I can get DENIED in the future should I make another appointment all because my hair was too long and can only be in a man bun. They said, "we only do classic cuts~~" then proceeded to point to a poster with a series of "classic" cuts. I was so put off by that comment that I felt insulted and the barber who cut my hair also failed to taper and clean up spots that was most obvious. I don't think I will come back again since there is a snobbishness to their shop and approach from when I entered, during to when I left! Users beware!!
