A great barber shop with friendly service and at a price that makes sense. I have had multiple cuts from several different barbers here and everyone of them has been completely satisfying. Plus this place is really a part of the neighborhood scene, and as far as I know, predates a lot of the latest hipster-barbershop bloom. The new location on Queen is even closer to my place and most welcome. I am only recently part of the whole beardo trend and before I had a beard I had a pair of electric clippers at home and hadn't seen a barber for a decade. But somehow I need a professional when it comes to the beard and I don't mind having a finer tuned hair cut as well. I re-entered barber world while living in Jersey City and Manhattan, so I got to sample some pretty interesting places that offered some high-end skills at moderate prices. Standout were Virile in Jersey City and Ace of Cuts in the East Village. I was impressed by the level of skill and real dedication to the craft. Back in Montreal I was introduced to La Tete Dure which is a real find. Two chairs, two guys, amazing cuts and very reasonable price. So when I moved here last fall I knew what I was looking for in a barber. And after poking around a bit and seeing some fancy spots, and what hipsterism (and too much loose cash) can do to the barbering biz, I was extra happy to find Town Barber. I went to the Queen West location and had a haircut and beard trim with the big boss Chris today. This was my first proper haircut in almost two years and I was super nervous about making such a big chop. Chris was SUPER chill and didn't make me feel rushed in the decision at all. He took his time to discuss a bunch of different options and what they might look like, and in the end I felt really confident in the decision. And he executed WELL. Great conversation too. I like their booking system because it can send emails to remind and put into my iCal Upon arrival appointments are honored on time and their pricing is fair. Rob squire is a solid barber and listens to his customers need. Over the years, I have found it hard to find a barber shop that does women's hair in the same fashion as a man might get. I get fades or shave it completely sometimes and I don't see why I should have to pay $60+ for such a quick and easy cut. Gender neutral pricing rocks. Hair is hair! Andy was not only extremely friendly, but very dexterous and could clearly and easily 'read' my hair. He keeps a very clean workspace. He detected my cowlicks and knew to buzz my faster growing areas shorter without any directive from me. Is he a mind reader? I have nothing but great things to say about this place! I have been to the site at Queen west, and the one on Dundas - both are fantastic. When I first visited, it was because I had a terrible cut elsewhere, and I needed to get it fixed. In short, the barber I had at the Queen site immediately knew the amateur mistakes my previous barber had done (wheel arching) and he fixed me up and made me look great! At Dundas, I had Sean, who was an awesome barber and great to talk to! I will definitely return and request him again. I definitely recommend this place to everyone. My experience was top notch, everyone is friendly (don't let the tattoos scare you) and it seems by the reviews that everyone else had a similarly positive experience. 5 stars! My husband just received a terrible haircut at Town Barber's Dundas Street location. He showed photos of the cut he wanted and the barber turned his chair away from the mirror (he thought perhaps covid practice?) and completely destroyed his hair. I don't even write Yelp reviews, but I'm making an exception because Chris, owner of Town Barber, is that rare dude who is loyal to his customers, and I don't know where else to put this story. I've been getting my fades done by Chris since he was an apprentice barber at Crow's Nest, charging only $15 a cut. Probably since 2010. I used to get my hair cut once a week, cause I like to stay looking fresh. So Chris has cut my hair literally hundreds of times. Every haircut has been exacting and perfect, he genuinely takes the time to ensure it's so. I'll think I'm done and be trying to get up, and he'll be touching up this side and that part, grabbing his clippers to fix some tiny imperfection no one else would ever have noticed. The guy genuinely cares about his craft, and it shows in his work. More importantly than that, he's a stand up, humble guy. After ending his apprenticeship at Crow's Nest, and moving to a full barber, charging full barber prices, he kept me at the original price, for YEARS after. He refused to change the price I paid, and even when I offered he wouldn't accept more money. A lot of business owners are "customer service" friendly, like on the surface, but Chris actually backs it up. He understands, just naturally as a facet of his personality, that long term customer relationships are more valuable than an extra $10 in his pocket today, which is a rare trait. In 2012, I left Toronto and moved to California, then moved back two years later. I went to Crow's Nest, and found out Chris wasn't working there anymore and had opened up his own spot. So I went over there for a cut. During my first cut, I mentioned how I was looking for work. Chris referred me to a friend of his who was hiring, and gave me his email. I emailed him, we met up, and I've been working for his company for the past 7 months. So Chris helped me get a job. THEN as if that wasn't enough, when I told him I got the job, he told me I couldn't pay for my haircuts anymore because I was working for his friend's company. I don't even know if I should publicize this cause y'all will go in expecting to leave with jobs and free haircuts. I've referred everyone I know there. My nephew and brother in law now get their hair cut by Chris too, and that's a strong endorsement because my sister is serious about her son's haircuts. So if you're not getting your haircut at Town Barber, you should be. read more

Really happy to have found Town Barber. I was a regular at a well-regarded barber shop in Kensington Market, but it was getting too hard to snag an appointment because they're too busy. Town Barber was exactly what I was looking for. Laid back vibe, friendly staff, busy but not too busy, and--most importantly--terrific cuts. Kiwi Dan is my usual guy and he's never let me down. It somehow reminds me of a small-town barber shop. Regulars breeze in and out and are always greeted personally. There's usually a dog or two wandering around and conversation is always convivial. Things don't feel rushed and you're welcome to hang out at the coffee bar in the back. Round it off with a great lineup of men's hair and beardcare items and you've got a winning formula. It seems like they only know how to cut hair in one specific way (which they do well if that's what you're looking for). The customer service is pretty poor, definitely not the most welcoming place. When I got there the woman who at the counter had such poor customer service I decided to leave without getting a hair cut. I just moved to the neighbourhood in December and had been travelling all the way to the east end of the city to get a haircut. I loved the place I went to, but 40 minutes there and back every 2 weeks was not fun. The actual establishment is spacious, with a relaxed, easy going, friendly atmosphere. Went to Kiwi Dave because I had seen a few of his fades walking around the west end and they were tight.Fade was good but scissor work was well below par,not to take from him this is just usually the story with barbers,either good with scissor or clipper but rarely both.Not being able to wash your hair there is a big draw back because it means you cannot do anything that day before going home and showering.Really nice guy and great little shop,just not the best and that is what Iook for. read more

I've been to a lot of barbers in Toronto looking for somewhere I feel comfortable. As soon as I walked in I was at home, the cut today was better than I've had in a long time and better than anywhere else I've tried. Richard took great care of me and beside the cut he trimmed my beard up for me and took care of everything else making sure I was happy throughout the process. I was happy that there is a stopgap ramp, my girlfriend is in a wheelchair and we try to support accessible spaces. I will be back for my next cut. read more

UNBELIEVABLY POOR CUSTOMER SERVICE. I can't report on the hair stylists, only the imbecile receptionist who threw away my appointment upon my arrival. I was stuck in traffic, they said I had 10 minutes after my appointment time until they handed it off to a walk-in. I called them again to tell them I was parking, they said "ok, but hurry", I run to their shop and they say "sorry, we gave your slot away". It was exactly 10 minutes after my appointment time, so they broke their own rule and disrespected a customer who had to travel by car to them. No respect or quality service. I gave them a heads up and had the courtesy to tell them of my lateness, told them I was nearby parking and was about to arrive, and they still threw my appointment away like chumps. You just don't do that. Bad business. So I never had my haircut with them and will never return to Town Barber. If you show up right on time and don't have to deal with their inept receptionist, then you may like it. But this says a lot about the way they run their business and it's a bad sign in the long run. People like that are not worth doing business with, even just for a haircut. read more
