This was our first time staying here and it won't be the last…read more Check in: Very smooth, we arrived early and wanted to drop our bags off, our room wasn't quite ready so Josephine took our bags and then Just gave us our room key so we could go straight to our room when we got back in. Room: Gorgeous! With a super comfy wooden framed bed, squishy pillows and a big fluffy duvet, bliss! There is a wee honesty box and a basket of water, chocolate and crisps. There is a decent sized kettle, a hair dryer and plenty of drawers to put your belongings in along with a cupboard with a rail. The room is a decent size and absolutely immaculate. The towels are fluffy and the shower has a decent flow and gets nice and hot. The shower gel and shampoo smell amazing! I'm going to ask where they are from so I can get some. There is one tiny drawback about the room and it's the location. It's right next to the front door and the dining room so you hear people, chatting and checking in. I think this room is a great option for somebody who may struggle to get upstairs but I think you should be asked if you mind having the room because of it's location. Don't get me wrong nobody has been over loud but you are aware of the people passing the room. One other wee thing, the selection of tea, coffee and hot choc is great and this is just a personal thing it would be nice to have maybe some peppermint or fruit tea in the options too. Breakfast: lush! You get a piece of paper the night before and circle the things you want on your cooked breakfast. There is a continental option too. In the dining room there is an assortment of cereals, yogurt and fruit. The bacon is yummy, really thick slices and really tasty. You get a decent sized portion. I ate over 4 hours ago and I'm not even peckish :-) Highly recommended! We will be back

On entering you receive a very scottish welcome, both by the owners and the classy scottish decor complete with tartan carpet. It was so lovely to have breakfast overlooking Oban bay. The quality of the accomodation and the food makes this place superb value for money and the perfect place to stop for a stay in Oban or before you embark on the wonderful islands beyond.

In many cases you walk by, admire from a far, take a picture and move on. Well, this wasn't the case. Mackays Guest House, right in the heart of Oban picturesque waterfront. A beautiful property run by Iona Mackechnie who was the sweetest and loving soul. A warm Scottish smile greeted us upon arrival. Checking in was quite a breeze. Once inside, the foyer with its soothing calm beachy vibe and tartan pattern. Beautiful cool tones on the walls and throughout the property. We had room number 1 which was one of the ones downstairs. Once you walk in, it's pretty massive and spacious. Modern vibe with its cleans line and cool color palettes perfectly suitable for the sea. Nice comfortable bed awaits you as well as two plush comfortable sling back chairs with the million dollar view of the waterfront. Heater fireplace in front of the bed for those chilly nights which is a given. As well as the flatscreen television above. You also have your en-suite which is nice as a lot of places don't offer them. It's pretty spacious with plenty of room for sharing. Walk in shower, all your toiletries offered. To top it off, the warm Scottish welcome of their traditional drink the irn-brn soda and tea cakes were on the dresser. What a sweet little welcome treat. Location is just minutes from the beach. Walking distance from the main town where plenty of restaurants and shops are. The ferry and train station. There's parking available right in front but based on first come. Street parking also available along the front but not quite sure what the restrictions are. Mackays Guest House is a must if you're looking for a quaint weekend getaway or for a longer stay for that nice R&R break. Perfect location, friendly face, beautiful view of the waterfront, minutes from town and restaurant. An overall amazing experience. Highly recommend.

Our room (Room 4) looked out at Oban Bay. Which was very nice. After returning from dinner in town - which is a short walk away - we just sat in front of the great bay window in our room, drank tea, read, and watched boats sail by. The room was rather large and nicely decorated. Not only did our room have the window sitting area, it also had a separate sitting area between the king size bed and bathroom. We had a long, harried drive full of detours from Glasgow and Sian immediately sensed our stress. She put us at ease, got us inside and after a few minutes in our room, had pastries and tea ready for us in the living room, on a nice comfy couch, in front of a warm peat fire. We stayed three nights and woke up every morning refreshed, ready for a great breakfast, while watching the sheep outside. There should be a 6th star for this place.

The room was a bit small but had a separate TV room and bedroom, really well heated and our room had a great view. It was very clean and comfortable. The house itself was dead quiet at night, but I did hear a bit of noise from the pub below the hotel next door - you'd have to sacrifice the view, but I'm sure there are quieter rooms. It wasn't bad though, no worse than what you'd hear if you live in a city. For an extra £5 per person, you can add breakfast in the morning. We were glad we did, because very little opens early on a Sunday in Oban. It was bacon, eggs, etc - all home cooked standards. It will fill you up and get you on your way. Room rate was great and I'd definitely stay again!
