On 11/30 I received an email from Experian that I had 1 potentially negative alert for a late payment on my GAP credit card. It also informed me that my credit score dropped by 95 points and would stay on my report for 7 years! As someone that has not missed a payment for 35 years, I was shocked! I never received any warning that I was in arrears. I paid the entire balance of $127.32 on the bill immediately. Next, I called Gap/Barclay Customer Support to rectify the issue. I was told that the report sent to the bureau was automatic if they don't see a payment. The rep told me there was an error in the email address on file for me, which the rep fixed immediately. She also told me there were alerts I could set on my account that would let me know when my payment was due, which I didn't know about. I usually pay my credit cards off at the end of the month. Because I don't use my GAP card very frequently, I didn't realize a payment was due because I didn't get an email. I usually get texts, an invoice or emails to warn me, then I schedule the payment in my calendar. I don't feel I should be punished so harshly for what happened. My score has been between 844 - 850 for years and I worked very hard to get it there. I was told there was no appeal process and there was nothing anyone can do. I was furious. Thieves! Do not trust their promotional bonuses! Opened a Tiered Savings account on Dec 12, 2025 for their advertised $200 bonus. I initiated the qualifying transfer on January 10 (within the 30-day window). Barclays themselves emailed me confirming the transfer was requested on 1/10 and posted on 1/13. I held the required balance for the full 120 days. They still refused to pay the $200. Their only excuse: the money posted two days late -- a delay they controlled. When I asked in writing for the exact promotional language that makes the posting date control instead of the initiation date, they refused to answer and just told me to call. They also rejected legitimate deposits early on with the helpful explanation "Other." Barclays got the full use of my money for months and then stiffed me on the bonus they advertised. Just informed by credit bureau that someone at this bank was using my info to apply for a loan. Spent hours on the phone reporting the fraud as I did not apply for anything at this bank. Call after call transferred to Security department where the system is 'updating' and there's nothing they can do for me at this time. When I asked them to look into the location and inform the branch or cancel the application they would not do it! I opened a Barclays GM Rewards cc on 9/30/25 with a 0% interest promotion for 9 months. Before receiving the physical card in the mail, I needed to make a large purchase, so I called to see if I could use the 0% interest with the temporary card number in order to spread the cost out over 9 months. I decided to call and verify because the info I found online about the card sounded different than all other 0% interest promotions I had previously used. I called and was connected to a foreign call center customer service rep from Barclays who gave me misinformation and reassured me the 0% interest was for any purchase for the first 9 months, not just GM related purchases. I asked her to verify this twice. After the representative confidently reassured me "not to worry", I was confident that I could use this credit card like my normal cards and would have 9 months of 0% interest for all my purchases. Once I received the physical Barclays card in the mail, I set up paperless billing and auto pay to pay the minimum since I knew I had 9 months at 0% interest based on the representative's confirmation from my call. Five months go by and I happen to check purchases on this promotional card, and to my shock and horror, I discovered that I had been getting charged with huge interest charges since the first month that I started using the card! Once I realized this, I called on 3/17/26 and spoke to another call center customer service agent. I explained how the last representative reassured me that I had 9 months of 0% interest for all purchases. She offered to escalate my concern. After back and forth attempts I was eventually able to speak to a senior manager who claimed that she reviewed my original call, confirmed that the Barclay's rep DID falsely reassure me that I wouldn't be charged interest and that she gave me incorrect information after I asked her twice to confirm. The senior Manager said despite the error on the part of their representative, she was not willing to remove the interest charges and help me beyond a $200 credit. Ultimately, $1069.42 in interest fees have been charged. Barclays, a $100 Billion dollar financial company, proved to me that they lack empathy, remorse, and ethical integrity. Based on this terrible personal experience, I will never recommend anyone open or use a Barclay's GM Rewards Mastercard. I informed each manager during each conversation that I had, that I was going to report this unfair and unjust treatment to the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB), Better Business Bureau (BBB), My FL state Attorney General James Uthmeier, and I will document my negative and unfair experience online through Google, Yelp, any and all social media and review platforms available to me. I have already begun this process and will see it through to completion. The people who can make a difference at Barclays probably won't care about my situation. They probably won't care that despite my due diligence in checking with their customer service prior to using the card, I still was mislead and charged. If they are like their customer service senior managers, they will go through the process so that my complaints get closed, but I doubt they personally care that I shouldn't have to pay $1000 in interest fees. It's a $100 Billion company, with Multimillionaire executives, who profit off their greed, I doubt they care about "you and me". I have had a GM MasterCard for years, through all the changes in Banks GM has gone through with this card. I have also been on "auto pay" for quite some time. With the latest GM switch to Barclays, my auto pay did not transfer, so they charged me a late fee plus interest. In fact, my mom and I compete for the best credit score and credit line. If I had to create a timeline for what I owed and when I can just tell you I owed 10-12k once or twice and paid it off. Since then, balance never goes over $500 and that's rare folks. Credit line over 25k for years. One day around June/July this year I logged onto my credit monitor and noticed my near PERFECT credit score tanked below 800. I have a Carnival World Master Card, Had a strange charge on my card. I called and was recommended to get new card. When I got the new card I activated it, went to use it DENIED! For many years, I have had a UPromise credit card through Barclays Bank Delaware. The APR is typical, I pay no annual fee, and I enjoy the cash back rewards. Barclays's online statements show me my purchases, payments, refunds, and earned rewards by date. Cash back is 1.529% when the account is linked to a College Savings Plan and 1.25% when it is not linked. Barclays's Spend Analyzer shows me my monthly spending habits such as number of transactions and dollar amount across categories such as restaurants, travel, healthcare, automotive, and others. Barclays also provides me with a free FICO score each month. One time, Barclays did not contact me about a fraudulent purchase, but I thankfully noticed it on my own and called them for a new credit card. For some reason, the employee connected me to the retail store where the fraudulent transaction was made, and he asked me to provide an order number for the fraudulent transaction, although I could not possibly know the order number because I was not the person who made the order! In February I filed a dispute with Barclay's against a merchant who refused to refund me the purchase price for an item I never received. Last week, I received a letter from Barclay's saying I "won" my case and was refunded my purchase amount. That was five months and many hours of conversations with Barclay representatives, dispute agents, and the office of the president, as well as a written complaint to the BBB. It was actually my complaint to the BBB that finally got the wheels moving on this claim. At one point, I was told my case was "closed" for the sole reason that I did not return a missed call from Barclay's quickly enough. I never did learn why they were even calling me that day. This bank favors the merchant, not the card holder. They give the merchant months to respond to a complaint, although I was told the merchant had already responded to Barclays and said they were not going to issue me a refund. Barclay's knew this and still closed my complaint. I have been waiting patiently for a written explanation and apology from the office of the President, but once again I am disappointed by their service. Got a notice from TransUnion that my credit report was pulled by Barclays Bank. It wasn't me!! Took forever to just get a REAL person to talk to. As far a customer service reps, I talked to Charlotte on 10/27/2022 for almost 50 minutes trying to get the best deal on a new credit card that Citi Bank had cancelled my old account. Charlotte was wonderful and polite in reading all the disclosures and answering my questions.
