Good customer service can put a spring in the step of an otherwise drab day. Nothing cheers you up like being faced with a complete stranger who goes over and above their job requirements to be kind and helpful, simply because they want to make your day that bit easier. I was on the receiving end of such service last week, when I visited the post office on St Vincent Street to send a hideously stressful parcel of very important documents halfway across the world by parcel force priority. I was served by a man called Colin who was helpful and knowledgeable way beyond the call of duty, even though it was near closing time on a Friday. He made the situation much less stressful as a result. So Colin, I wish to thank you for taking pride in your job. Not being able to post my parcel, or doing it incorrectly, would have resulted in disastrous consequences. You can go to bed at night knowing you really have made a difference.

This large post office in the main street in Largs is new since I was there last. It's now in a…read morehandier place to get to than the smaller one that I remember tucked up a side street. Besides all the usual service you'd expect from any PO, this one also sells gifts, souvenirs and postcards. The staff are pleasant and helpful as well. Parking is difficult outside as it's always busy there but you may find a space if you're lucky!

Dont go at peak times though, you wont get out the door any time soon as the queues are long and knowing your luck the person in front is posting numerous parcels around the world or has not filled in a form correctly for their car tax. It is located inside RS Mccoll and has all the parcel items you need - envelopes, padded envelopes of various sizes, packing tape etc. The shop has a card section, and as expected sweets and magazines, lottery etc.

They have a really good selection of books, logically displayed so it's easy to find what you want. They have a computer system so you can look up the book you're looking for to check if it's available. They're open until 7:30pm weekdays except Wednesdays, which I thought was very impressive and convenient since I work office hours. They have a good range of CDs and DVDs that you can borrow as well as books, although there's a small charge to take some of those. You can also get access to the internet here, and they have magazines and a coffee machine.
