I rescued my dog Stu at 5 months, and while he definitely exhibited normal puppy behavior, I felt like he was also having some behavioral issues. For example, when Stu and I would cross the crosswalk in a four-way intersection, he would jump and and try to grab the leash and play tug-of-war. He would sit down in the street, knowing that the only way for me to get him to move and across the intersection (with the time ticking down from 30 until cars start coming at us), was to give him treats. I really didn't know what to do. I have grown up with dogs in my household my whole life. At 25 y/o, Stu is my first dog that I own to myself. Some people recommended electric collars and prong collars. While I stand pretty firmly against these methods, there were a few times I thought to myself, "Oh, okay, I can see why some people use these." Some people recommended dog-boarding and a two-week programs where I would send Stu away and he would COME BACK A NEW DOG... Upon more research it seemed like that was a great way to break any trust I was trying to build w/ Stu, not to mention that almost all of those boarding places have some sort of corrupt system, usually involving "lite negative reinforcement". Immediate NO there. On the web, I found Bark Busters, called for a consultation, and set up a list for Erind to come meet Stu. Erind went over some basics. I think the coolest part about their method is they don't use any treats in their training. It is all up to the owner and their voice and mannerisms. I was kind of shocked how well the bark-buster method worked. Almost instantaneously, I had Stu walking on one side of me, not pulling on the leash, sitting before crossing the street and waiting for my vocal "cross". The other amazing tool Bark Busters utilize is their leash and harness. It is specifically designed to correct the dog (without hurting the dog in any way) and it is very effective. Speaking to character, Erind and Karina are very very friendly, extremely responsive and the "lifetime guarantee" aspect had me skeptical at first (I felt like, "wow I really learned everything I needed to in that first session...and I paid all that money...) But I was wrong. I keep finding myself with new situations and posed with more complications that I can always reach out to Erind and Karina for. They are knowledgable on dog-training but also on breeds all around, what they require, and attributes pertaining to the breed itself. I just moved to a new apartment building. Stu has been disoriented (seeing all the furniture move and get packed up and then unboxed) but Karina came over within the first week of my move and helped me re-establish some ground rules with Stu. We started our training with Kevin a little over a month ago for our two dogs. Our dogs have very different personalities and are about 4.5 years apart.
