Cute small business with all the goods you could need for a cat or dog. Some items could probably be found elsewhere at a lower cost but that's the toss up of choosing to support small businesses! Staff is very friendly and willing to help without being overbearing. You can bring your fur baby with you to shop around which is always such a joy to expose them to life outside of the house in a safe and welcoming environment. Even though they cater more to dogs, they do carry cat supplies. My cat loves the scratch lounge, which I bought there a year or so ago. It was in pretty bad shape from lots of use so I stopped recently to pick up a new one. They were out of stock, but within a few days they called and said they were now available. Bark's had the most awesomeDog grooming services! Brittany has been grooming our mini-golden doodle since we got her at 12 weeks! Our Hope loves Brittany and runs into the grooming room! Brittany listens to us and knows we do not want Hope shaved down. But she also cares enough to make sure her fur is short enough to keep her cool. She does her best to have to cut out or shave off any mats without making her look pathetic or silly! To make it even better their prices are well within a reasonable cost. read more

I love shopping at Barks Fifth Avenue, Deb the owner is always so very friendly and very helpful in recommending outstanding, healthy products for my 3 dogs. Deb also cuts one of my dogs nails, Deb is the only one he allows to go near his nails. This past year has been so difficult for our small business owners, Barks Fifth Avenue stayed strong and weathered the tough times with great resilience, these are historically troubling times unlike anything we all have ever seen, (from a financial and emotional standpoint with regard to business ownership and interpersonal connection). Terrible costumer service. I felt like they have a very discriminatory attitude. Paid for my dog service and they were not able to trim his nails, not sure why , because my dog is able to do somewhere else. She kept arguing with me and telling me that I should take my daughter back . And again they would not give my money back because it wasn't their fault. Katie LOVES her spa days at Barks! Her groomer, Brittany, is very kind and gentle and makes my girl look her very best. Katie doesn't like her face touched so I don't know how she gets her trimmed so perfectly without freaking her out, but Katie is always excited to see her, and comes out looking her best. Today is Katie's 10th birthday and she came home with beautiful purple birthday bows! We both love Barks and get all her food and toys there. We have been customers of Barks for several years. As a matter of fact, our Schnauzer Terry chose our family when we were picking up our late Border Collie/Golden Retriever from a Barks grooming treat. That was over 10 years ago. Yes, Deb provides a great service to the canine community with Foster care. It is a wonderful convenience to have a reliable local boutique style pet shop and pet grooming facility right in the neighborhood. The best part is Deb also carries a unique selection of premium pet food for our discerning four leggeds. She took the time and made the effort to order samples of a newer food for one of our pets who had gastric challenges, plus made many recommendations as we tried different food options. The store is always clean, well organised and with plenty of special and unique treats and goodies to bestow upon your lovely pets. The staff is cordial, friendly and attentive. I absolutely love the report cards from the groomers, who truly listen to what I request at each grooming. The dogs are always eager to visit the store and eagerly head to the grooming room with no fuss. This is my go-to pet shop, both because I like use independent, locally owned shops when possible, and because the owner, Deb, clearly takes a lot of pride in her business. They carry a good selection of healthy kibble, at a range of price points. I'll admit I thought it was a little silly at first that I eat mostly plants and my dog is on a mostly meat-based kibble diet, but it's been great for him - he's a little muscular machine now! They also have interesting treats, besides the wide array of baked goods, like deer antler chew toys. Deb also runs a couple of doggie play groups in the evenings, one for small dogs (Tuesdays) and one for big dogs (Wednesdays). My dog loves these, and it's a great way to let him release some energy and socialize with other dogs. Most of all, I admire Deb's commitment to fostering rescue animals. She frequently has a dog from the Animal Rescue Project in the store with her, along with adoption information. read more

After reading some of the other reviews, I feel bad for other pet owner's negative experiences in the store because mine was quite the opposite. Today was my first day in and I was greeted politely by Deb and her pups! I informed her that I have a 9 1/2 week old puppy and that I was looking for quality food for him. She thoroughly answered any and all questions I had regarding food options, training, vet recommendations, vaccinations, and even treats. She was patient and commended me for doing my research already and was open and honest about pricing, quality and quantity. She gave me great literature and resources and she even suggested some videos for me to watch. I spent nearly two hours there, during which time a few other customers came in, were greeted, and helped in a polite and friendly manner. I was more than happy to wait while she clipped nails, and helped another customer decide on a new food to help with her dog's upset stomach. Deb was great and I seriously could have talked to her forever, she alleviated many of my concerns by explaining everything out in a very knowledgable and educated way. She has certainly done her research and it made me confident in taking her advice. She even suggested the smaller trial size bag of food in case my pup wasn't taking to the transition well, so I walked out spending much less than anticipated. Support local and shop here with someone who is extremely knowledgable about their products! I will be buying my food only from here from now on! I just had a wonderful experience here. My long haired cat had gotten horribly matted, a grooming nightmare. Deb and Tammy worked on her for an hour, got the mess cleaned up, and Deb got us on a care program to prevent this problem in the future. They were both as kind and helpful as they could have been. I only come here to purchase holistic food because it's more convenient than online sometimes. The staff never says hello when you come in, nor do they say thank you. I have had to stand at the counter with my purchase for minutes before I'm even acknowledged. For a locally owned store, they should be much more friendly to their customers. Bark's is a doggy's dream. I can't speak to much more than the treats but I've purchased two birthday cakes for my pooch here and let's just say they didn't last very long. Charlie's latest treat was a cake made from all-organic ingredients including carrots, carob, oat flour, and frosted with yogurt icing. She was unprofessional, extremely rude, and created a stressful environment for both myself and my dog. Jessica showed up over 15 minutes late for our appointment (without acknowledging it or apologizing) and berated me over the phone and in person regarding our lack of grooming experience. She also sent our dog home wet, in temperatures below 0 degrees. This experience was very disappointing and we will not be returning. read more

I admire this store for offering dogs for adoption, but the only person in there - owner, I assume - is NOT friendly. My husband bought a raincoat for one of our dogs. It didn't fit, and I went to exchange it. Owner gave me a very hard time, saying, "Your husband got the right size" - sorry, lady, the coat was too small. I like being greeted in a friendly manner as much as anyone. But honestly, I care more about the actual quality of the service or product I need. I met Deb today on my first visit with my puppy. She didn't greet me with a fake smile or gush all over me with well rehearsed and memorized comments. Hmm? What's going on here? But when I needed help and advice, Deb was great!!
