This is long, however, worth reading…read more I want to start by saying everyone here is extremely friendly. We have taken multiple animals here over the years and always had pleasant experiences. That being said, whenever we are there and there is an issue, I never feel we get clear guidance on what to do. It almost always seems like it's a list of things we can do and let us choose rather than professional recommendations. Almost like, how much money are you willing to spend while you take shots at fixing this? This really came to a head here recently when I feel diagnosing our puppy with kidney disease was poorly handled and almost mishandled in my opinion which has resulted in a 1.5 year dog having stage three kidney failure. After years of only having one dog, we decided to finally get another and we went and got an 8 week old Dalmatian puppy. Immediately we realized that he would not stop drinking water (to the point he would throw up) and had more frequent than normal accidents in the house. When bringing this up, we were told that they could do a blood test, however, he is too young to have kidney issues and it is most likely a disorder that makes him obsessed with water and he will grow out of it. We continued to bring this up on every visit and were told to limit his water and he would grow out of it. Finally, when we came in and he was around 1.5 years old, they decided to do blood work and found out he was in stage 3 kidney failure. They recommended an ultrasound and sterile urine sample which we did. Based on the findings they said he should immediately be put on antibiotics because something they found points to a possible infection and we were prescribed over $100 in antibiotics. It was also determined his bladder wasn't normal size and things seen on the kidneys point to issues. We were told time is of the essence and we had to get him on the antibiotics. They said special kidney food was important but never made it seem urgent. If they had, they would have tried to send it home with us that day. A couple days later they called and let us know an infection was not an underlying issue. Honestly, it seriously felt like it was about the money and not properly treating our dog. They then sent a referral to go to Virginia Tech to see a specialist. Virginia Tech would not be able to get us in until 9/25. Months later. This is where I really start to get aggravated. They claim every second matters but recommend us to a place that can't get us in for months. Luckily my wife knows a veterinarian and they refer us to a Specialist who is in Vinton and was an Internist/Professor at VT for over 20 years. He got us in the following week. Why in the world would Roanoke Animal Hospital not have referred us to him? There is absolutely no way they didn't know about him. Unfortunately, he did confirm Stage 3 Kidney failure and gave us some recommendations. One thing he said was that no matter what, we have to let him drink as much water as he wants. If not, it can start to cause issues with his organs. Because we do not have bloodwork from when Pongo was a puppy, I have not clue if he has always been in Stage 3 Kidney failure. That being said, what if he WASN'T? What if they had recommended we do blood work and we found out what was going on early and immediately did stuff to slow down the progression? How much damage has limiting his water for 1.5 years at the direction of the Vet done? Now my family has to deal with the fact that the puppy we love might only be alive until he is 3 or so. The ball was dropped. And I hope this really makes Roanoke Animal Hospital rethink things and take a much more proactive approach to stuff. Nothing can fix this, however, I hope this prevents another family from having to deal with the same heartbreak.

I took my puppies in on 7/3/26 for their first check ups at cherry stonemy girl Nina had diarrhea…read moreI felt concerned about I mentioned it they wanted to run a Parvo test first cameback negative they did do a fecal exam on her the dr tells me she has coccidiaShe explains to me that it's not a wormmore like a parasite stress can cause it being that Ijust gotten her&it was a new environment maybe she was stressed she gave me anti-diarrhea meds gave anti-nausea meds gave me metroidazole for Coccidia&she told me took her home &started the meds as prescribed7/11 Nina became lethargic I called Cherrystone no answer I decided to take her to Lynchburg er vet& re-ran the Pavo test&fecal examParvo was negativethe Coccidia was still there They explained to me Metroidazole does not treat CoccidiaAlbon does Lynchburg gave her her 1stdose of Albon& explained to me how Coccidia is highly treatable and has a excellent prognosis If caught early I did catch it early but Cherrystone did not give their correct medication therefore she was not being treated entire time like I thought she was They only gave meds to basically mask symptoms and helped the symptoms so in that nine days she was not getting better but she was not getting worse because they were masking the symptoms with the anti-diarrhea and anti-nausea medicines so July 12 comes around and she starts vomiting, which is not a good sign. Lynchburg told me to bring her back in and so I did and they decided to do a ultrasound on her and they told me That she had intussuseption, and needed surgery as soon as possible Which I agreed to do so they quoted me almost $4000 for the surgery I paid for it signed off on the papers left the vet and I got a call about 35 minutes in telling me that they had gotten her blood work back and that it looks like she is septic and that her liver is not functioning properly anymore they said that she was not stable enough to go through with the surgery at this moment that they were going to be given her IV antibiotics and try to get her stable enough to get the surgery done. They then called me again about 20 minutes later after that phone call and told me that she started agnol breathing And then she died. I called Cherry Stone the next day Explained the situation to Lynn at the front desk, which is Dr. Geyer sister. She told me she would get back to me regarding the situation I never heard from her again I had to call and reach back out&ask someone to have her call me back she told me that she had Looked over the paperwork before she left the offic&that she did not see where she was diagnosed with Coccidia. I explained to her they definitely did diagnose her with itshe told me when she got back n the office she would go over it again& give me a call back Again, never got a call back So I called AgainLynn gets on phone&says yeah she talked to Dr. Geyer& they did not diagnose her with Coccidia I explained to them I had the paperwork I've already came and got it as well Have the med bottle stating for Coccidia on it she asked me what I wanted out of this I said honestly, I've spent $2k in that bills at Lynchburg because of this I just would like you guys to refund me the $256 from the visit I had with you where y'all charged me for things y'all did not do as well as not treating her properly she told me that she would get back to meI never heard anything I filed a complaint with the board& I guess they got notified of it &they reached out to my mom &told her they would not see her dogs anymore& I've got them in a mess even though I gave them plenty of times to handle the situation& they chose not to I told them what I wanted out of it and what I felt like was the right thingShe was always very rude on the phone&lacked sympathy even though I was given sympathy to dr because I understand mistakes happen& it cost my dog her life but I was very kind about it She told my mom on the phone they didn't diagnose her with that that they gave the meds for diarrhea& not for Coccidia that I never agreed to surgery at Lynchburg even though my mom was on the phone with me when I agreed to it cause she was helping me pay for it so she knew that I had agreed to it They have lied about multiple different things&she keeps saying 9days is a long time It can take up to2 weeks to kill them &also if you mask symptoms they can come off like they're doing OK but they're not actually if I go to the doctor tomorrow& complain of stomach pain nausea diarrhea &they run a test on me and tell me that I have a kidney infection& they give me Zofran for nausea and Pepto for diarrhea and Tylenol for stomach pain but they don't give me antibiotic to treat that infection My symptoms can get better because they are treating the symptoms, but eventually, I'm going to become worse because they didn't treat the actual problem This is just common sense I'm very disappointed in the fact that they have lied multiple times and denied accountability instead of just owning up to It
