On our trip to Tasmania, we made a specific plan to make sure our itinerary included a round of golf at Barnbougle. So glad we did. There are two courses, Dunes and Lost Farms. We played Dunes. The first couple holes are nice but then you get to more ocean views which are quite stunning. The green of the course contrasting with the sand and blue of water makes for great pics. There are no carts so be prepared to walk. We rented clubs and bought balls at the course. The rental clubs were pretty crappy. I expected much better at a higher end course. I played the front tees (white) which were just under 5000 yds (have to convert m to yd throughout). Tee boxed, fairways, greens, all in good shape. It was a very undulating course overall. Crazy putts, odd bounces, extra yardage on rolls...it can work fit and against you at times. We wanted a caddy but they only have so many employed and they were gone before our tee time so we pushed our clubs and guessed where we needed to go. We had a good experience golfing. We stayed in the Lost Farms lodge. Our room had two queen beds. It was spacious with a balcony overlooking the course and water. Very nice. Beds are comfy. Shower nice and hot. We also ate in the restaurant. Stunning views of the sunset. You can peruse their wine cellar if you want a bottle for your table. Menu had a variety of chef designed mains and interesting apps. I went with the prawn spaghetti. It was delicious. Lots of prawns and a tasty sauce over the pasta. We split the bread and greens. Excellent dinner. This is definitely a destination course with high end dining and accommodations. Great experience. read more

When planning a recent trip to Tasmania my partner insisted that we go to Barnbougle so that he could play golf on one of Australia's best golf courses. I wasn't too fussed about staying at Barnbougle until I had a look at their website! The course looks amazing (I was assured that it was great to play on too) and the rooms are pretty nice too. We ate at the restaurant which has an amazing view looking over the edge of the course out to the ocean - just divine! The food was quite nice. We shared scallops with mornay sauce which were tasty. I had the fillet steak which was cooked well and my partner got the lamb which was also nice. The only fault was the large table of 14 golfers that sat near us and it was apparent they had enjoyed a day of golf and drinking! The room was good - heated flooring in the bathroom and a large and powerful shower. The bed was a little soft to our liking but clean and warm. Unfortunately we didn't have time to check out the spa facilities however the massage tables overlook the same view as the restaurant so I'm sure they'd be worth while paying a visit to! read more

The position of the restaurant is spectacular, perched on dunes high above the golf course with views of bass strait and the surrounding town of Bridport. Unfortunately, the view was not enough to make up for the spectacularly bad service and poor quality food served to our group at lunch. The service was deplorable and the gentleman who served us should be employed elsewhere due to his ineptness and rude manner. Our party had been there almost an hour before one of us decided to approach the desk to find out when we would be attended to. Coincidentally, the waiter finally approached our tables and began to take the orders. One of our party attempted to order a dessert at the same time as the main and was curtly told that he would be coming back later. After another long break the food finally arrived. The meals were extremely basic and in many cases overcooked or of poor quality. A basic burger with a few fried potatoes in a cup was $24 and was extremely disappointing and not on par with even a basic milk bar. In regards to the dessert ordering, the waiter never returned to the table and so the thought of dessert was abandoned. At no stage did anyone refresh our water jugs or enquire about the food or whether we were enjoying our time, it just felt like the staff did not care. Why is it that Tasmanian restaurants do not appear to get even the basics right, particularly when our state depends so much on reputation and value for money. The payment of our bills was another shamozzle, taking an extraordinary amount of time and rudeness from the same gentleman who failed in every single respect. I was thinking of taking my wife out to this restaurant but I am afraid that I need more than just a view to make such an effort. read more
