Not the largest B&N by any means, but it's the largest, best stocked bookstore in Bend, by far. A lot of folks don't like B&N because it's a chain, just as they didn't like Borders. But it's good to have at least one non-Amazon brick n mortar option available. Not that I have anything against Amazon- I use them often. And I shop at the various independents too. Also, because I have a Nook E-reader, I can browse online in the store and read any book for a hour a day. I'm a Nook fan. read more

Came in for a couple of fantasy fiction novels found the selection to be rather poor consisting mostly of the go - to authors with incomplete story line inventory had to to an equally poor Sci fi substitute to finish my shopping. It is one of the nicest stores I have been to. The selections of books are wonderful. It is a pleasure to go into a store and sales people are willing to help you. Also, I love the Cafe that is in Barnes and Noble. Buy a book and go for coffee and read. I really like the Starbucks that is in this Barnes and Noble. Great food, great coffee and a Great Book Store all in one. If you buy a membership for $25.00 a year. One gets a discount on books and in the Cafe. Again, a great place. read more

Barnes and Noble does not intend to carry the #1 NYTimes bestseller, Dangerous, by Milo Yiannnopolous, in any of it's stores. When I contacted this outlet to ask why I spoke with the store manager, Andrew, who was extremely curt and rude. It appears as though B&N is trying to censor the reading public by not carrying this fine book. Shame on B&N and shame on Andrew for being so unprofessional. This review is about the consistently poor service. They have a good selection of books, clean, well lit. I'm trying to say something nice. Go in Monday morning minutes after the store opens and head back to children's department, spend about five minutes looking for a book, I know the author and title. Can't find it. Go to what I think is the customer service desk in the middle of the store. Woman at computer doesn't look up. I say "excuse me, can you help me find a book in children's?" her reply, "is there someone working back there?" I tell her no. She tells me there should be someone back there. I guess she can't be bothered? Okay, guess we are done because I'm not sure of what kind of response she wants from me? And this dreadful older woman at checkout. No smile, no hello, no thank you. I put money in her hand, she gives me change on the counter. Three times, consistently the same. I don't get it? I dont want to go there to look at books. The Indy shops in town don't have the selection and ordering online doesn't always work if you just want to browse. read more

This is my go-to bookstore! The staff members are friendly, observant ("Are you finding what you need?"), and helpful. I almost always have a short, friendly visit with the clerk during checkout. I recently called in to see if some books and a game I wanted were in stock and the young woman who answered the phone went out of her way to accommodate me; she ordered the book that was not in stock. It is easy to justify and recover the the minimal $25 yearly membership fee, since members receive 10% off all items, including items in the Café! They also have a nice selection of note cards and greeting cards, games, some art supplies and gift items, a wide selection of magazines and tables full of bargain books. I hope they stay in business a long time! read more

Not the best selection, especially of computer/techology titles, if that's what you're seeking. However, the service seem quite on and it's in a nice location close to shopping as well as a friend's place (walking-distance, even). With the corp. coffee powered-café right on site, you can have a relaxing time reading, sipping your cup, and watching that corner of the Bend world go by. read more

Poor customer service. I saw online that B&N had a book I was looking for at 14.95. I stopped by this location to pick it up--and it's 24.95? So I inform them that the B&N website says the price is 10 dollars less, and the woman at the checkout counter says, rather curtly, "oh yeah, everything is cheaper at the website." OK. . . ? So I'm confused, their prices online are different than store prices? By 40%?! So I return to the information desk to ask one of the customer service representatives if that's correct-- they don't price match their own online website? I can immediately tell this question has struck a nerve with this older bearded gent, and he precedes to go into a diatribe about how the store and the website are "different economic models," and then asks in a patronizing tone "surely you must understand that." He's shocked when I respond "no, I don't understand." Best buy, Target, Walmart, and virtually every other major retail outlet on earth matches their own online prices--but I guess the customer representative thinks I'm being a smart-ass for asking why B&N doesn't. Obviously this is a sore point with employees here, who I suppose are tired of explaining the price difference over and over again to everyone who walks into the store under the same innocent misconception as me. I get it--having to relay information when you work at the information desk must be the most ironically frustrating thing ever. However, it's hardly unreasonable for your customers to presume that B&N matches their own online pricing when 99% of all companies do this. Getting pissed off when all I've done is ask a very simple question about a very unconventional pricing policy was extremely unprofessional. He treated me as if I was an idiot for not knowing this, as if I only asked the question to hurt his feelings or cause trouble. Suffice it to say, if the only thing separating your brick-and-mortar store from online competitors like Amazon is (higher prices) customer service--you'd better make sure it's good service. Your jobs literally depend on it. As for me, I won't be back. read more

Like most B&Ns, this store has a good selection, and it's usually pretty tidy and well organized. I wish they had more seating in the cafe, though. More than once, I've come by to grab a drink and work for a bit on my laptop, only to find every table already taken. read more

Great store- they are always willing to order things in for you- good selection of Pop culture items like funko pop, tokidoki, and Pokemon!!

I continue to use this store because I'd hate to see a brick-and-mortar bookstore fold. But it's getting harder to do so. The last two times I've been in there, just one person has been behind the checkout counter. The checkout line has grown to more than 10 people and still nobody comes to help her. On both occasions when someone finally did show up to operate a second register, that person said that "two people had called in sick." Hmm. Apparently the store is badly understaffed, or has given up on customer service, or something. Whatever the reason, it would almost be faster and less frustrating to just order what I want from Amazon. read more

Can't stay out of bookstores and this Barnes and Noble is one of my favorites. Great selection of children's books, neat little gift ideas and bargain books everywhere. I used to get my books on my Kindle but too much light at night disturbs my sleep. Besides nothing beats the feel and look of a book. The staff is always warm and helpful but not overbearing and the store is always clean (especially the bathrooms). I go in here often and always find new items, book displays and current titles for bargain prices. Barnes and Noble just makes it too easy and affordable too feed my book addiction. read more

This review is NOT directed specifically at the Bend store, which has always seemed perfectly okay, but at the national B & N "membership" racket. For two years I have tried without success to get my supposed "automatically renewed membership" at B& N terminated. It is very, very hard to get to an actual person at the corporate level, except one who is reading from a script and says she sorry she cannot help you. Anyhow, consumers beware that if you EVER become a B & N "member," B & N will charge your credit card annually for a supposed "membership"--this January the charge on my credit card was $27-- apparently for the rest of your life or until you cancel the credit card whose number they have on file. This charge appears without any affirmative action on the part of the "member," as I have not shopped in any B &N store within the past year. And I will not do so again, at least not with a credit card whose number they can grab and start charging an annual membership fee against. I suspect when you sign up once to become a member, probably as I likely did a couple of years ago to get a small discount on a large purchase, there is something in the fine print you don't read that supposedly gives B&N the right to charge you a membership "fee" every year forever. To me this smacks of fraud and deception, and I will look to see if anyone has started a class action lawsuit against them. read more
