The people here are incredibly helpful and the store itself is always set up in a really accessible and enjoyable way. I have spent and plan to spend many an afternoon here working on my laptop and then picking up a book on the way out. I love Barnes and Noble, and this is a pretty good one! This isn't the biggest bookstore compared to most B&N locations, but I'm usually able to find the sections and books I'm wanting with ease. I do wish they had a larger media section. This one has a couple of bookshelves. Their Starbucks is really nice and a great spot to read or study! I go to Barnes and Noble on a weekly basis. Whether its to check out the new books they have in stock, purchase books for my classroom, or sit down and get work done in the café, there's always something for me to do work here. The staff are mostly friendly and helpful. I've never had trouble with anybody there. I rarely go into Barnes and noble but when I do I'm usually not impressed. The checkout line was so long and every time I pass the store it's always full even if the store itself is pretty empty. Today was busy, but there was no one on the floor to help us and we waited at the customer service desk for nearly 15 minutes until someone came to help. The woman who came up was pretty rude and seemed like we were bothering her, and I asked if a book was in stock and she rudely told me it wasn't and proceeded to walk away. It said it was in stock online and she didn't stay long enough for me to ask where I could double check... she didn't check anything so I'm confused how she would know off the top of her head, it's not a very popular book... was not impressed and will continue to avoid going there if I can. If you have time to dig around yourself then maybe it's worth it but the staff is rude read more

Not the biggest bookstore compared to most Barnes and Nobles but they had pretty good prices. Couldn't find any violin sheet music, unfortunately. There also weren't not enough staff members so people had to wait a while to get help. The whole layout of this place is not ideal. It feels cramped and the check out area is crowded. read more

Despite the lack of a music department, this store is almost perfect. It's an older Barnes & Noble store, so the feel is a little more cozy and less generic, and the book selection is to die for. If you love books on design like I do, you could spend all day there checking out the half-dozen floor to ceiling shelves of photography, art, architecture, interior design, fashion & urban planning books (and I have!) The BEST small market B&N I've ever been to, bar none.. read more

I love to come here and study. I also love to grab their magazines and read like I'm at the library. You also get a 10% discount if you join their membership, which includes discounts at the star bucks inside. Once in a while it can get too crowded and you won't have a place to study, but I usually get spot. If you plan to bring a laptop and use the free wifi, make sure your machine is charged because they don't have chargers. I hope they don't close down due to all the online books these days. read more

I love this store, the staff is great, always very helpful. I love that they notice that the cafe is full of students occupying tables for hours on end. I appreciate that they ask them to limit there stay. This is a busy store and I have a right to set and enjoy my purchase in the cafe too. I don't get these kids. Many arrive when the store opens at nine and stay until the evening and pitch a fit when they are asked to allow others a chance to set. The bookstore is a fine store - the cafe has really gone down hill. Was there today, ordered a Starbucks iced coffee and a Starbucks iced tea and saw them mix about 30-40% tea with 50-60% tap water!!! Outrageous and the drinks tasted quite watery (surprise surprise). I don't think Starbucks would be pleased with this. Avoid the cafe. read more

I was happy to see a familiar place after moving across the country for school. I stopped in to study today with a friend and after each of us bought a drink and sat down, we were told the tables were for cafe patrons only, and not intended for students. We were told we could only stay for an hour because we were taking up valuable space, even though we were paying customers and there were 5 empty tables and 4 seats available at the counters. I will never come back for coffee or buy a bok at this location again. read more

This is my favorite Barnes & Noble. One of my favorite things to do after a stressful week is to come to this store, grab some books to look at and sit in the café with a coffee while I read. The staff here is always pleasant, and while I don't always buy a lot of books, they will always answer my questions. The café staff does a great job making the coffees I like, and will chat with me about their new favorite books. While the store does tend to get busy, I have never had trouble finding a seat, and have enjoyed spending time here. There isn't a large movie or music section, but I don't find that to be an issue, since I'm there for the books. read more

I am so glad this Bookstore is still going strong in Charlottesville. Bookstores seem to be a dying breed these days. If you need help ask for Kurt.. but most everyone here is helpful. The cafe is nice as well just to have a place to take a break.. but if you really want a good place to have a snack on Barracks Road try Hot Cakes. read more

This B&N is pretty big and has a great selection... With that, I'm very surprised at how small the cafe area is in here. It seems like it's way overcrowded each time I go in. Maybe that's a small grievance, but it would be nicer to increase the cafe seating capacity to at least match the demand... Other than that, this place is good. I go there because I like Barnes & Nobles and also to get coffee. However, I've been there a couple of times and I just order either mocha or PSL. The last few time I was given little over half full cup!! Why? I paid full amount for it and I was very disappointed when I left. The girl (young with short hair) who always makes my coffee is nice and friendly but she needs to be careful with given people half full cups! read more
