Update: They have since moved to a new location and I love the re-design in the new space. It took a little bit to get used to where some things were because it's a new layout but it looks so much more clean in there. I will continue to support bookstores because they are so important. This new Barnes and Noble is stunning! Great design and easy to ramble around. Love the new cafe up front, no stairs! Extensive card and gift wrap area. I could easily go back and relax and add to my book collection. The service is good, I was offered help and I appreciate that. It's brightly lit and very clean, a few chairs here and there and ample room in the cafe. Parking is mixed in with other businesses so no problem. read more

The new Barnes & Noble on New Haven is absolutely beautiful. They've outdone themselves with a great displays and have a lot of extra merchandise. They did not have it the other store. Can't wait to go back! The café is beautiful and it's a great place to hang out. read more

This particular Barnes & Noble is located on 192. I have always been a big fan of Barnes & Noble. This particular location is a single story building. Let's get a few of the negatives out of the way. This particular location was a little bit harder to navigate than other locations. Maybe it is just because I am more familiar with those locations, but it took me a minute to get my bearings. The other thing I don't know if I necessarily like was that I was trying to find a children's Bible for a gift. The mother of the child specifically asked for this. Anyway, I went to the children's section to look for a children's bible. I was told that children's Bibles and children stories about the Bible were in the religious section. I just think that children's story should be in the children's section. Anyway, those were the only negatives that I could find. As I have said, I have always enjoyed Barnes & Noble. I have always enjoyed bookstores in general. This particular location has a friendly staff had a decent selection of books. read more

This Barnes and Nobles always gives me a sense of nostalgia whenever I come to visit. I remember growing up in this town and playing in the children's section when I was younger (the stage seemed huge back then!) In high school I used to order a spinach feta pretzel and study for exams in the Starbucks area, which has a great selection of food items by the way. Another favorite pastime of mine was to grab a stack of comic books and spend my afternoons reading. There is a great selection of books, games, and music that will cater to anyone's tastes. The manga section is very decent sized and is continuously being updated with latest releases. This is definitely not the big, glamorous, multiple stories B&N you might find elsewhere. However, it is always clean and it's employees are always willing to help. It's perfect for a quiet town. read more

The Melbourne/Palm Bay area is limited when it comes to brick-and-mortar bookstores. Ever since ebooks became more prominent, owning physical copies of books became less common. I mean ebooks save space and are cheaper right? Still, there are some people (me included) who enjoy the traditional way of reading books. Thankfully, there are some brick-and-mortar bookstores that survived by adapting to the times. Barnes & Noble is one of them. Also, I am thankful that despite being the only brick-and-mortar bookstore in inner city Melbourne and closest to Palm Bay, they have not gone lax in improving for their customer base. That is why they get such high marks for their review. Barnes & Noble (which I will shorthand to BN for the remainder of this review) is located at the southeast quadrant of the US-192 and Evans Rd. intersection, right across from Melbourne Square. It is not hard to miss as it is a huge building emblazoned with a huge moniker. Inside, the bookstore is divided up by preference and genre. The sections that do stand out fiction, magazines, non-fiction, and children's books in the back. There are other sections of the bookstore that show BN has kept up with the times especially for younger generations. The back-right corner of the store for example has numerous educational games and activities for numerous school grades. Yet, there are popular board games, such as "Settlers of Catan," located up front to the right side. The back-left side of the bookstore is dedicated to music and movies. Their selection is no Best Buy or fye, but it is decent. They even have vinyl records too. The highlight of the bookstore is easily the cafe smack in the center of BN. Unlike other bookstore coffee shops and bistros, this one really has a wide array of delicious food and drinks. They serve Starbucks coffee and Cheesecake Factory desserts. Besides that, they have an assortment of hot foods worth eating. I personally love their sandwiches and soups. Yet to try their stonefire pizza though. Overall, I would give BN a solid four out of five stars. The only reason why I don't give them the full monty of a rating is the fact seating is limited and uncomfortable and their "not book" selections are lacking when compared to Books-A-Million in The Avenue Viera (no shirts, no Funko pop figures, no toys, no pop art, etc.). read more

No recycling in the cafe. They took out all the recycling bins, and only throw things away now. Even worse, they now use loads of single-use plastics, that only goes to the landfill. Little to no effort to be environmentally responsible; in fact, it's worse now than it was five or ten years ago. For a business that you would expect to take the lead on such an issue, they disappoint. read more

This store used to be awesome. I don't know which I spent more of there - time or money. However, last year they decided to add a toy store and childrens' play area to the middle of the store. We're not talking about the childrens' book section here, that is in a totally different place in the store. This is a toy store/play area in the middle of what is supposed to be a BOOK store. The noise is unreal and it is obvious that they had to remove quite a few books to be able to fit in this ridiculous addition. I don't have anything against kids in stores, it just seems to me that a book store should be about reading and the quiet to do so. Shouldn't the children visiting the store be reading, as well? I tried to frequent this store as much as possible because I felt it was important to have an actual bricks and mortar bookstore in the area, even though 9 times out of 10, Amazon.com had better prices and better selection. Unfortunately, after visiting the store twice since the addition of the play area, I am DONE. The last time I went home and spent $90. on Amazon. I am sure when this store goes out of business, they will say it was because the people in the area just don't read or they will place the blame on the Internet. Sad. read more

Large location that's not too packed and has ample room for sitting and reading/studying! They have a Starbucks inside with sitting room in the cafe as well. The employees are nice with the exception of one woman who I think may be a manager, or The manager? Not sure, she looks annoyed anytime someone asks her a question and I've witnessed her being straigh up RUDE to people. Let me say upfront that I am not a fan of most BN stores. Most of the time the staff either cannot be bothered or know nothing about books of any kind. The moment that I walked into this store, I could see the difference. Staff smiling, knowledgeable about their product, and no long waits for someone to show up at Customer Service. Plus one of the best selections in genre fiction that I've seen in a long time. Always clean every time I visit. Although like in many bookstores that I've worked in or shopped in, some of the staff could use a refresher in the alphabet. No worries, I'm used to that and I usually reshelve the books in the right place. read more

While I enjoy Barnes and Noble because it is a quiet escape to an alternate reality, I can only give this location 4 stars. Service and in-stocks has always been good, but I struggle because there is a lack of outlets for people like me that are either toting a laptop for studying or working. With the ample amount of tables and chairs, plus a decent cafe, it seems as if they encourage the use of laptops and electrical devices. My time at B&N is always limited because there are not enough outlets in practical places for me (with a laptop) to linger for a while. This location is perfect for leisure, sans laptop, unless you happen to score a coveted outlet. read more

Love this B&N. One of the senior clerks is a little gruff but the location, size and organization of this store more than makes up for that. Its a book store -book stores don't necessarily attract extroverted employees! But what they do have to have is a great selection of books, generous spaces to roam and a quiet environment to read. It has all this. Galore. And a great Starbucks right in the center with lots and lots of seating. it is perfect. You can travel all thru Florida and you will struggle to find a B&N this spacious and wonderful. I find myself getting lost in this store for hours at a time and it is reminiscent of what bookstores were like in the 90s. Before Kindle and Ebooks and Audible. Dont get me wrong- i love all these new technological tools but I still love to hold these books in my hand and find the just-perfect places for them on my bookshelves. And this store inspire just this- to pick up a lazy easy to read novel, or take up organic gardening or teach yourself magic tricks or cry along to excerpts from World War II. Oh yes. I love B&N! But the kid area IS a little much. I understand that kids need to read and it's important and blah blah blah.. but it needs to be at a decent "inside voices" noise level. The starbucks inside has the WORST drinks so I stay away from that. If you want Starbucks, you're better off going to a free standing one or one in the mall. Every time I've had a drink here, it separates in the cup within seconds and tastes.. eh. The books offered here are great. The selection is wide from self-help to fiction, non-fiction, Science, childrens, and they have a music section which is great! They have probably the largest magazine section I've ever seen. I used to come here, and you could never find a seat. People would be sitting on the floor to read. It was so busy with reading enthusiasts and now lately it's dwindled down to a laptop office space and a kid zone. (Kill the laptops please. Should NOT be allowed in the bookstore. It's a distraction to us who are actually there to read and find books.) read more
