Great Barne's and Noble's. They have really good displays that change pretty often and have fun themes--i also appreciate them having displays for LGBTQ, Black History, and Lunar New Year books. They keep LGBTQ book displays up year-round and not just at Pride! They also have a banned books display all year round. I also enjoy the events they host, i've been making new friends at the k-pop meetups they host and they also hold book release parties and author signings that are great. Only complaint is i wish they still had a music section. read more

We are visiting family in Republic and my husband needed to work a bit and he was having trouble with the cell service there so we searched out a place to sit for a bit in Springfield. We found this store and it's a bonus for him that it's got a Starbucks inside too. The staff is super friendly and helpful, always plenty of seats available in the cafe and a couple of those seats have plugs so he can charge too. We will definitely visit this store again. read more

We love Barnes and Noble, especially when they have Starbucks inside. Unfortunately the seating is limited but you can still enjoy your coffee while looking for a new book, game, Bible, magazine or bookmarker. I love the variety of books and items. Not just a book store. This is like a town center. I'm serious. The same group of people come in everyday and if u become a regular - they will want and try to get to know u at the Starbucks. Things to note: 1) not Starbucks, just products provided by Starbucks. Can't use Starbucks card. 2) the BEST service every. Good people 3) crappy WiFi. Use ur Mifi 4) lots of kids story-telling time 5) decent book collection. A more progressive collection than I would have imagined. So I generally prefer local local coffee shops - but somehow this Barnes is more local and homey than the others with some good atmosphere and people. And I never felt like I should be rush out while doing work. read more

This is a small, but nice Barnes and Noble store, probably about right for Springfield, MO. It has a good variety of books and a great kids section. If they don't have the book you want, they'll order it for you. Their service staff was friendly, even though we went during the busiest time of year. This has always been a good store. It's clean and usually quiet. Unfortunately, however, it's very quiet of late. I guess people don't read as much as they used to. That's very sad to me. I did find a book on the shelf that was completely trashed from improper binding at the factory. I'm kind of surprised they didn't notice it when they put it on the shelves. Oh well. I still like Barnes & Noble a lot. I wish people would go there more and pick up a book or a pen. read more

I am a book person. I read non stop. I read books, not e-books. I have never really been a B&N fan for a few reasons (one being that I do not feel you should have to purchase into a loyalty club) but none of them are the fault of this particular store. Given the fact that Springfield is not a large town and Borders is gone, if you want to pick up a book later at night, this is your spot. Here is what I found- for kids, they have an absolutely, unbelievably, incredibly, fantastic TOY section. YUP! I was IMPRESSED! Some top of the line toys that are set up to entice the the little ones to try them out. Some are educational, some are fun, some make adults want them (I am still regretting not purchasing the Darth Vader Lego alarm clock for a friend) and all are accessible and well displayed. Now, on to the books. I never really made it to the adult book section. I picked up a couple of new releases for gifts and that was easy enough (I could have done that at the grocery store). They had a great sale going after Christmas on on the seasonal items and books, that was pretty special. However, the kids books? They need some work. They need to get some decent expository books in stock. Dorling Kinderling books are great for kids to look at- but have little text structure so to speak. They have some series for 1-3 graders that have matching expository books, why not put them together? My niece spent 45 minutes here before she could find a book- ANY book she wanted. I put no restraints and told her just to pick any BOOKS she wanted. No rules, no expense limits, nothing. And she found nothing that perked her interest. That tells me that something is off with the displays. I started prompting her with picture books that I knew were high interest. Finally she started to get into it, but really- get some folks in here. Do some research, redo this section. read more

It's your typical Barnes and Nobles.....it just all happens to be on one floor so it is pretty spread out. Apparently Angelina Jolie and her kids have been here before too. But besides that, they have tons of books and I have always been able to find the book that I am looking for as well too. The only problem I have here is that there is very little seating available.....and the seats have no cushions! On one occasion, I saw all the seats were taken by the windows so I decided to go to the kiddie area and sit on one of their block seats. Hey, it beats sitting on the floor! They just need more couches or armchairs or something. Pros: - lots of books to choose from - they have tons of tables in the aisles that will have a whole genre on there so it's easier to find books of a similar subject. Cons: - feels a little crammed since everything is located on the first floor - need more seating....and better seating! Can't you put in a couch somewhere for my bottom? Why I gave it a 3..... I've been to better Barnes and Nobles that have been more spread out and have better seating. It is nice though that everything is on one level...makes it easier to navigate, but they definitely need more places to sit because it is always busy in here every time that I have come here. read more

The staff are great, the store is good but they have the WORST bathroom in Springfield. The men's restroom is what you expect at a bar on Saturday night, except it's like that every time I visit (which is monthly for the last few years). My shoes are sticky when I walk out. Please, for all that is decent, use some urinal mats, pipe in some fresh air / fix the ventilation and clean the floors! read more

Barnes & Noble has become one of my 'Must Stops' when i come into Springfield! It's such a calm environment and as soon as you walk through the door a weight lifts and the smell of books and coffee enters! This store is conveniently located near the mall on the South side of Springfield. If you turn in just South of the street going to Office Max and Olive Garden, it's often easier to get in an out of the parking lot. If you buy a lot of books, be sure to get the membership card. It saves you a bundle on hard back books and new releases. If you read anything LGBT, don't bother looking here. All of the material is trashy and erotica-based. They also conveniently put this section next to the Bible/Christian section, purposely making things awkward. But what can I say, we live in Springfield, right? If you're looking for cheap books, try www.paperbackswap.com. Better prices (trade or $3 per book with free shipping), but you have to wait for it to come in the mail. Overall a good place to spend an afternoon or evening on a rainy day, browsing through all the different sections. read more

I know of no flaw whatsoever with this Barnes and Noble. Only good memories. Never had any negative encounter at any time with any purchase or employee. Had a great time at the Harry Potter book releases in years past. Got a stunning calendar there for myself one year. Am using panels of it for wall decor. Great selection of books, and there is a starbucks, plus some minimal cafe food here as well. There is a very large Nook section and they do lectures on how to use the item. The only qualm I would have is that there really isn't any seating, and the seating is not that comfortable. read more

We special ordered a book for Christmas from this Barnes & Noble. When the book arrived, the book jacket was marred. There were wrinkles and scratches across the cover. When we went in to pick up the book we expressed displeasure with the condition of the book, and the sales clerk says, "Yes, it really doesn't look that good." Well, if it doesn't look that good, why didn't they reorder a new one as soon as they saw it? They can send them back to the publisher for condition issues, can't they? We've reordered a new book now, but it won't e in until after Christmas. Kind of frustrating... read more

I'm sorry, but Hastings by far was the best bookstore in the midwest.These guys are on the pricey end. They need to focus on books, not electronics, coffee, and toys. Think they shoulda got rid of this place and kept Hastings. Long lines, then they want to sell you something. I just want to buy my book and leave, lol. The call center is abysmal. In the first place, Barnes and Noble makes enough money not to off-shore the calling centers that are to serve US-based customers. If they do insist on off-shoring, they ought to invest money to each the staff that will serve English-speaking customers to speak idiomatic English and to be able to read English better. I could spend hours at Barnes and Noble browsing books and cool games. Love the atmosphere and wide selection. Books are usually a little pricy, but I do have a membership and get coupons so that helps if you use it frequently. Overall, great store to spend an afternoon in. read more

I will not use B&N online ordering ever again. They use 3rd party sellers to sell books they do not have in stock. I have been waiting 2 months for a textbook that was supposed to be delivered 22 days ago. When I called to try to resolve my issue I was told that they are not responsible for 3rd party sellers and I had to resolve the issue with them directly. They only have an email address for the seller and no phone number. The seller won't respond to email and I have no where else I can find the book for under $3,000. They already took my money and will not resolve the issue. read more

Took my 96 yr old mother to the book store today. NO WHEELCHAIR. To bad, she reads a couple of books every wk and wanted to buy some, but couldn't walk around very long. When I complained, staff said there "isn't anywhere to store a w/c". Really?? They fold up, you idiot. I looked around at the customers and there seemed to be a fair number of older people not to mention I am sure there are disabled people to shop there as well.
