I come here a lot after a long day of work to read a book and drink some coffee. It's not as packed and loud as the other cafés in Boardman. The baristas in the cafe and the workers in the bookstore are all very pleasant and helpful. There is no tip jar on the counter but they are aloud to accept tips. I find that showing some gratitude makes everyone's experience more delightful. read more

I mean, I guess we should be happy enough that a Barnes & Noble still exists but I only went here because they advertise that they are a Starbucks as well. Don't be fooled...this is not Starbucks to those who are used to Starbucks (as in they don't live in small town Ohio where there is only one and it's brand new). It started off with me being told to hold while the frantic cashier ran around trying to deliver food to customers who had wondered off. My opinion: let them fend for themselves, it's not full service. Finally the girl making drinks came over and took my order. She was less than delightful...she gave me a dirty look when I ordered something she hadn't heard of. She also asked if I wanted whipped cream in tea. I told them how to make the drink and she made it. Then they couldn't take my starbucks card or app. I think they should just not have a starbucks sign....or maybe someone to let the city folk know it acts like a starbucks...but not really. read more

This has become a new study/hang out spot for me. The membership card combined with the barnes and noble credit card equals out to 15% off everything, including the café. I asked a bunch of questions before I bought a membership and signed up for the card. The staff could not have been more helpful. One of the staff members also spent a fair amount of time helping me to look for a book for a paper I had to write. read more

The bookstore itself isn't terrible and the staff is fairly knowledgeable regarding specific reading interests I have. The "Starbucks" however lacked something to be desired. Very disorganized and they were extremely limited on what drinks could be made. The table arrangements were awkward and I did not feel comfortable spending any significant amount of time there reading/studying. read more

MOST UNPROFESSIONAL INMATURE MANAGER I'VE EVER MET! This afternoon I decided to go to the Boardman Barnes & Noble Café to work on some homework. I am a nursing student, so I am always looking for relaxing places to study. B&N Café has always been my favorite study spot since high school due to the excellent service, great food & coffee, and just such a cozy atmosphere. Honestly, writing this post makes me really sad, as I love the B&N café, but it needs to be said. I went into the B&N café to study for an upcoming exam on today. I always purchase either a beverage or pastry whenever I go to the café, and with a pandemic amongst us, I am always extremely careful to social distance from other customers and wear my mask. So, when I went in this time, I acted no differently out of respect. There usually are little plastic signs on a few tables that say something to the extent of "customers should only stay a half hour out of courtesy towards other customers", and I am always conscious of this. Especially when it gets busy in the café and new customers are seeking a place to sit, I almost always abide by this new rule. However, during the slow hours on a weekday, when there are only a few other customers dining in (who have been there for hours) I decided to stay for for an extra 40 minutes. Please do not take this out of context, I would have relinquished my seat if a lot of new customers had come in, but today day at this specific time, nobody was coming into the café. Also, I assumed the employees of this Barnes & Noble were acknowledging the slowness of the day since they were not reminding other customers, who were already in the café when I walked in, that they were surpassing the time limit as they were still sitting in the café hours later. My friend who had just got off work decided to stop by, as she was already in Boardman, to study too. When she came inside, she brought in her lunch too, which she hadn't gotten a chance to eat yet. She walked in and set her stuff down at my table, got her laptop and school stuff out and was getting ready to go to the counter and purchase a coffee when the manager came over to our table. Now looking back, I realize why the manager came over regarding my friends "outside food" and how it was not allowed, however, how she handled the situation was COMPLETELY uncalled for and out of hand. Like I said my friend was about to go up and purchase a coffee when the manager stormed up and rather than politely saying "Excuse me, there is no outside food permitted in here, can you please put that away?" she rudely snapped, "You need to take that out of the café right now, there is no outside food allowed in here!" caught completely off guard my friend said "I'm so sorry. I didn't realize, I will put it away right now." And instead of the manager saying "Thank you" or anything in response to my friend's genuine apology, she coldly turned to me pointing in my face snapping at me rather loudly saying, "And you! You've been here longer than the 30 minutes, you need to keep that in consideration and leave pretty soon!" In the bitchiest most unprofessional tone a woman could possibly muster. Keep in mind, there are several tables in the café, all social distanced, and aside from me and my friend there were only two other customers in the café. The irony is that those customers had been in the dining room longer than I had and were taking magazines & books from the actual bookstore, without paying for them, and reading them. But back to the issue at hand, a manager pointing in a paying customers face, who has done nothing to warrant such behavior and has been nothing but respectful, in front of other customers who have been inside longer than I had is an extreme issue! The manager is a poor reflection of what a great café and bookstore B&N is. I realize there is a pandemic, however, pointing in a paying customer's face is uncalled for even when there is not a pandemic! I am not even mad at what we got yelled at for, I am mad about the tone she used with us. She talked down to my friend and I, both who are respectful paying customers, as if we were petulant children who needed reprimanded. And not only that, but after her little visit to our table, I noticed her scowling at us multiple times before we left, which was only a few minutes after her rude encounter. All I can say is Barnes & Noble Café in Boardman needs to do better. They need to reevaluate their employees, especially their manager who is supposed to be the other employee's role model. They need to do this because the manager is chasing away business by essentially kicking faithful customers out with her extremely unprofessional behavior and work ethic! Clearly, The manager isn't competent enough to understand what is the polite and professional way to communicate with docile customers. It's sad when two 20-year old's are more mature, have more manners, and professionalism than some middle age women! read more

Book store is cool, but the cafe is a joke. Internet is rotten. DO NOT come here if you plan to do any work that requires the internet.

This store has the biggest selection of books in the area - which is why I shop here occasionally. Their staff is friendly. I have never been able to find a seat in the cafe - so people must like it. The parking situation is atrocious. read more

I absolutely love this location! They have the most friendly staff both in the cafe and in the retail end. I like that they serve Starbucks coffee but aren't actually a Starbucks. Which is how they advertise themselves. And, I understand that Barnes and Nobles is in the retail of reading material and am prepared to explain to my child the difference in what I permit her to read and look at and not. I feel sorry that someone would leave a bad review for the team here because of a magazine that's displayed in a reading retail store... Also, if you feel neglected at the retail counter use your words and say excuse me or pardon me...like anyone with manners would do. You do understand that their job is not only to wait on you all day, but, to actually do "work things" behind the counter. And, I'm sure if you asked for an outlet for you to use, (I'm sure while drinking your one cup of coffee,) they may be obliged to help you with that. It's amazing to me that this site has been logged onto for such simple, and trivial complaints. All these issues could actually have been taken care of by the ones leaving the complaint using better manners. Kudos to the whole Barnes and Noble team for being so hospital-able to their guests. I loved this B&N from the time it was built, but lately service has been extremely slow both at the book seller's counter and the cafe. Now, to welcome my business even more, they blocked all of the electrical outlets in the cafe. From this point on if I need a place to write, I'll head around the corner to Panera. If I want books I'll go to Amazon and if I want coffee I'll go to Starbucks. Sheesh people, make me love you again. read more
