This review is for the new location at Danbury Fair Mall. I liked the old location down the street but this location is bigger and there's a cafe on the lower level. It's so nice to see a new bookstore like this. There are lots of personalized recommendations all over the store, which is a great touch. If you need a book, this is the place to go. What's really nice is downstairs they also have games, cards, wrapping paper, the cafe, etc so if you wander in, chances are you'll end up buying something you need. I'm biased because I like bookstores, but this is a really nice store so please check it out. read more

I met a date at this Barnes & Noble a few months back. She told me it was in the mall and she told me there was a cafe in the bookstore...but what she did not mention was that this book store has two floors, with escalators in the middle of the store! Whoa! Okay, okay...I've been in a bookstore with 2 or 3 floors before, but I have NOT been in a Barnes & Noble with more than one floor. My date and I met at the flagpole (err, one of them) in front of the mall and slipped inside to grab a drink from the cafe. I bought a fancy-pants bottle of soda and she an iced coffee. After finishing our drinks and realizing we had more to talk about, we agreed to scope out the rest of the bookstore. We checked out both floors and perused just about every section/genre and got to know each other a bit. I took a bunch of photos because this B&N was so well put together. Alas, I did not buy anything but this was one of the nicest bookstores I've ever been in. If I'm ever in Danbury again (say, for a helicopter flying lesson perhaps), I'd go back to this bookstore, and who knows...maybe I'd buy more than just a fancy-pants bottle of cola! read more

Located near the Danbury Mall. Plenty of parking in the lot. Many great selections of books and collectibles. They are more expensive than Amazon or Walmart. The positive is that the employees know about some of the books. If they do not have it in store, they can order it. read more

Was at the mall today with my family. We stopped in to Barnes and Noble to buy some books. While there I approached an older female employee on the second level of the store and asked where the restroom was located. She tells me in the mall by JC Penney. I thought that was strange so I walked around a little inside Barnes and Noble and found they had restrooms for customers on the second level of the store. I immediately realized that the employee lied right to my face. My family and I used the restroom and left. We did not buy anything after being treated like trash. Employees like that ruin a business's bottom line. read more

The people that work for the Company are lovely. It's the Corporation that I dislike. The BNN app and their website are horrendous. It's constantly refreshing, and sliding in marketing. Infuriating. As a premium member ( this'll be the last year) I get one free ebook a month. I wasn't even aware. Do you think they send me THAT email? No. It's not ANY ebook. It's not even from a revolving category. It's from a random selection of 5 books that some random person chose, 5 books you've undoubtedly never, ever heard before. But you can't even select it on the app. Oh no because apple phones are not allowed to select ebooks from an app. You have to exit the app and go on the BNN website and FIND SOMETHING referring to your membership. And scroll down, down til you see the benefits of your premium membership. Around number six lists this free ebook a month and in that sentence it references TheLandingPage link. Touch that and you're transported to their super secret Island were you get to see their selection of 5 enormously random books you get to choose from with only about 5 sentences of an overview to paruse. After going back and forth with that you pick one that'll take you to the shopping cart were you're asked for, oh wait, that's right you're NOT asked anything. You're not prompted for anything. If you didn't notice the code in the previous page, you have to go back and look for that and navigate your way back to the shopping cart. Once you put in that code were coupon codes would go, this ebook choice clicks over to $0.00 due. Now that's a lot of mishigosh to go through BNN for the low cost of $39.99+ tax a year! My time is worth more than that. In the world we have today, where people are bombarded with media and marketing. I can buy books everywhere not to mention the challenger Amazon, one would think you would treat your loving customers with a little more respect and try to make our experience with you an advantage and not a miserably aggravating waste of time. Now after three years of paying into your premium membership I'm going to try to remember to look at your ebook offerings each month. But I guarantee you I will NOTbe renewing AND I DO NOT RECOMMENDthat anyone pays $39.99 to save 10% on SELECTED TITLES either! read more

Just a heads uup...the hours are wrong! Store does not open till 10am! Found out the hard way.

My family met in the area yesterday as it is a midway point between where we all live. There were six of us. I acquired a brain injury working in prisons this past year, and get migraines regularly, so, after lunch, my family suggested we stop off at Barnes and Noble so I could lie down and they could read for a bit, before we'd all head on to our next destination. Finding zero chairs in this Barnes and noble, I curled up in a corner, and my cousin sat next to me reading a book. A little while later, someone came by and asked if I was alright. I said I was. A few minutes after that, another staff came by and told me I couldn't lie down but needed to sit up, so I repositioned myself against the wall so I wasn't lying down but just slouching on the wall. Then a few Minutes later someone came and asked me and my cousin to leave. At that point I was furious. I have just as much right to function in society as the next person. And it has been hell since this brain injury to try to do that. There were five other family members of mine in that store, one was RIGHT NEXT TO ME reading a book, and we were asked to leave for what?! I went to the front to talk to the woman but she just said, "I'm sorry people can't lie down in our store." I sat up when she asked me to, so was it that my eyes were closed? Really, what's the big deal? If you had any furniture in the first place this wouldn't have been such an issue. But being able to accommodate people with disabilities, even ones you can't see, has to be something our society gets better at doing. I've learned a lot about that in this past year, and it makes me angry knowing how NOT accommodating some people and businesses can be. read more

Excellent!!!! Great to have a bookstore still around. Plenty of books and magazines clean and well laid out barnes and noble is my new favorite bookstore ever since borders shut their doors over 10 years ago. It really is a shame that the big book stores are closing not everyone rely's on kindle/fire to read some people are old fashioned still that want to read a physical book and turn actual pages! Great friendly staff who go outta their way to make sure we are being tended to and will order books if not in the store. read more

I love books. When I was younger, I hated reading but as I grew older I used them to cope in a road to recovery from depression and this store kept me stocked up. Even if I have a shelf of books I want to read at homes, I'll still buy one. The staff are lovely and the store is always nice and cool and quiet. read more

I think we've all been spoiled from the days when Borders was open up the road. The no chairs thing is nonsense. They did have one or two chairs behind the cookbook section long ago ~ here's the thing ~ if you sit down and actually read the book, you are more likely to not buy it or to get it from Amazon. I give it four stars because as much as I love my own local bookstore, I get mildly annoyed when my friends and neighbors watch me read. So I drive one town over ~ I love losing myself in the racks. To clear my head. So four stars for regaining my mental sanity which makes up for no chairs or coffee shop. But not five. read more

Just read a review from Miss R complaining about management requiring mask usage (including covering nose) and was glad to hear that BN in Danbury is taking the right line. Yup. No coffee shop. And no chairs! I was in there today and was toting 2 hefty coffee table books around with me looking for a spot to sit and preview them. I asked a salesgirl where the chairs are, and she told me they didn't have any room for them. She suggested I sit on the bench by the magazine rack. Okay. I tried, but it's like 12 inches wide and the back has a cap on it that sticks into your back and is supremely uncomfortable. Not only that, you have to keep pulling your feet back in so you don't trip the people browsing the magazine racks. After 10 minutes of that nonsense I just left the books there and went home to order them off Amazon. read more

I've never been to a one story B&N before or this store when I went, and I definitely liked the setup of the store and how easy it was to find what you're looking for. I came here with friends so I didn't spend a lot if time here, but I would definitely come back again if I'm in the area. read more

Reading some of these reviews I am appalled. I have been shopping at this location since we moved up to Putnam twelve years ago. Being a former Borders employee I appreciate what the associates do. The store may not be big but it's also not a place to kick back, put up your feet and spend the day there...buy a book and go to Starbucks if that's what you want to do. As far as the commenter complaining about being asked to leave for laying on the floor...it's not the place to sprawl out on the floor! Barnes and Noble does not have to have furniture so that you can make yourself "at home". It's a bookstore for goodness sake!!!! I say all of this to say that I enjoy my trips to the store and one associate in particular always makes my visit pleasurable and makes it a point to greet my girls and myself. He thanks me for coming in and supporting them. In this time of technology I truly enjoy holding a book in my hands and turning the pages. I have a Kindle Fire but I still like printed books and I will always go to B&N in Danbury. read more

This Barnes and noble is way too small, there is no cafe and almost no seating. I never got here and I am sad that the borders nearby closed. But I'm lucky because I'm equidistant to the Poughkeepsie ny location which is amazing. read more

When we were in the area the other day, I spotted this Barnes and Noble around the corner from the Christmas Tree Shops location when I ventured out from a place my mom loves to visit. I knew I needed other ideas for shopping on an online competitor's bookseller's site and decided I'd get some inspiration in here. And although my visit started with me visiting the men's room (which was quite interesting, as this place only has a handicapped men's room stall and a male urinal, and two sinks), I was shocked - the place wasn't dingy but it wasn't very clean either. After looking around the shop for a little while finding a few books I had never read before (and got some information for a book I wanted to read but hadn't officially gotten to yet), my brother piped in and told me that he had been in here a long time ago, but never did tell me until that day that that visit happened. I didn't mind the visit much. Yes, it's older, but it's employees didn't check in to find out how it's customers were doing. I didn't need any help looking, I could peruse pretty well, but it would have been nice to have someone in the store that wasn't behind a cashier counter occasionally to ask if the person needed help. And although I thank you for your time, I don't think I'll ever be in the area again. I do end up visiting the mall around the corner, and don't get around to visiting the shops nearby after the mall always tends to be a grand reason to shop in Danbury. read more

Bought a book today at the store. Paid $10 more than Amazon but they had the book on the shelf. Problem was, paying too much wasn't enough. At check out I was supposed to become a member and when I turned that down they wanted my email address so they could send me coupons. But when I turned that down, I was obviously a terd. The sales person stopped talking, barely got the book into its bag and barely slid that purchase across the counter, walked away without a thanks or come again. Obviously a customer is only of value with an email address and membership. They had the book which is the only reason they are not a one star. Every worker in the store made it seem like they were overworked, so busy doing something for the store but too busy to let a customer ask a question about a second book need. I bought it online and doubt I'll ever need to step into this store again. read more
