There is a toy store next door that seems to be affiliated with the bookstore, with a LFL out front. The bookstore is one room but they fit a lot in, with books for adults and children. They have a customer loyalty program for those in the area. Both employees were very welcoming. They also had very cool bookmarks for the shop that came with the purchase. They had art done by customers. The books are new and not used.

It's so nice to see a new bookstore like this. There are lots of personalized recommendations all over the store, which is a great touch. If you need a book, this is the place to go. What's really nice is downstairs they also have games, cards, wrapping paper, the cafe, etc so if you wander in, chances are you'll end up buying something you need. I'm biased because I like bookstores, but this is a really nice store so please check it out.

Whoa! Okay, okay...I've been in a bookstore with 2 or 3 floors before, but I have NOT been in a Barnes & Noble with more than one floor. My date and I met at the flagpole (err, one of them) in front of the mall and slipped inside to grab a drink from the cafe. I bought a fancy-pants bottle of soda and she an iced coffee. After finishing our drinks and realizing we had more to talk about, we agreed to scope out the rest of the bookstore. We checked out both floors and perused just about every section/genre and got to know each other a bit. I took a bunch of photos because this B&N was so well put together. Alas, I did not buy anything but this was one of the nicest bookstores I've ever been in. If I'm ever in Danbury again (say, for a helicopter flying lesson perhaps), I'd go back to this bookstore, and who knows...maybe I'd buy more than just a fancy-pants bottle of cola!

Today was my first trip to Rainy Day Paperback Exchange and I am more than satisfied with my…read moreexperience. For the past year I've been helping clean out a family member's hoarding house, and it just so happens this particular hoard contains an unbelievable amount of books. Today, I toyed with the idea of going to Book Trader Cafe, but I wasn't keen on the idea of fighting with downtown New Haven traffic and lack of parking, only to spend precious time and energy lugging mass quantities of books around the block just to be told that they can't take anything and have to lug it all back to my car, feeling stressed and disappointed. I remembered seeing flyers for this locale at a convention last fall, and figured I would give this place a shot. Not only was Honorah, the owner, very gracious with helping me get the bins upon boxes upon baskets of books out of my car, but she also was kind enough to offer to donate whatever she couldn't take to the Mark Twain Library, since she knew I traveled 45 minutes from Seymour and figured she'd save me as much time as possible. This was very encouraging, since Book Trader usually donates the books they're given to New Haven Reads but didn't the last time I went there. To be fair, this may have been due to the age or relevance of the books that were donated, but anyway, this isn't meant to be a compare and contrast, just a slight informative aside from someone who's been casually selling used books for a few years now. Honorah was also very understanding and compassionate about the hoarding issue, which is a godsend for anyone who's had to live with the embarrassment and stress that hoarding can cause. She also made a lot of helpful suggestions of what to do with books that are obsolete and how to recycle awkward items that I might find during the clean-out process. Last but not least, as mentioned in other reviews, the doggie there is ADORABLE! He's very playful and friendly and really makes the buying/selling experience all the better. So, in closing, if you aren't looking to pay top dollar for a good read, like you would at Barnes and Noble or some big name book store, and you either aren't close to Book Trader Cafe or don't want to fight the swarms of Yalies and one-way streets for a used book, or if you're like me and you're looking to sell some books (they mainly do store credit, except for NEW text books), this is the place for you. An added bonus is that there's a nice coffee store literally right behind Rainy Day, so you can pick up some excellent coffee while you're there and successfully scratch two things off your to do list at once! They specialize in 19th and 20th century English and American literature, which means you're going to see a lot of titles you're familiar with. I stopped in late in their day, so I wasn't surprised to be the only one there, but the team gave me space, answered very basic questions I had, and - gasp - LET ME TOUCH THE BOOKS. This is far from a stuffy environment, and when I finally convince my partner that I need that very expensive piece that has F. Scott Fitzgerald's music for Princeton, I know exactly where I'll go.

This is the largest selection (aside from corporate-owned Bauman's) of rare books I've seen that include the dust jacket- a collectors actual dream. It's the biggest breath of fresh air to find a rare book store owned by a woman, and to be treated like a human being. I normally get side-eyed from rare bookstore owners and some of the conversations I've had sound like: "May I see the Portrait of a Lady in the case?" "All of these books are at least $100.00 and up." ".....I know." "Do you have any Wilde?" "The book about the woman hiking alone? That's too new to be in our shop, Barnes & Noble would have it." "I'm talking about the 1800s poet." "Oh." I take it personally because while I look like a millennial who doesn't know what she's talking about, I treasure my rare books like they're my children. Sunday stayed AN EXTRA HOUR at her store while I looked and answered all of my questions that I had, never making me feel rushed or unwelcome. After selecting a first edition Fitzgerald, she wrapped it in bubble wrap for my travels back home and gave me an updated book with all of the rare book sellers in the country.
