Our whole crew- including a toddler and four year old was entertained by the variety of books on the shelves at this store. It's housed in an old warehouse alongside a gift shop, flower shop, kids clothing store and coffee shop (brilliant combination!). They offered everything from cookbooks and kid offerings to smutty romance books- a delightful mix displayed beautifully. Not to mention the charming warehouse setting and natural light.

Everybody knows The Outpost has tons of stuff and better prices than the bookstore most of the time…read more- it was where we came when I was still in school (a long time ago) to get Greek stuff. They have a large parking lot with food trucks during the week. It's super easy to find just off the interstate and just off campus by the ISAT/Festival side past the Basketball complex. I was able to find loads of goodies today for myself and friends and family. They have hats, t-shirts, sweaters, yard flags, mugs, cups, bottles, jerseys, jewelry, pet stuff, baby stuff, alumni stuff, sports stuff.... you get it. I saw a lot of Greek stuff in the back section in a side room laid out on sale (and only there) so maybe they're getting out of that business... It's locally owned and run by a JMU family (goooooo Dukes) and has a great vibe and some awesome items you can't find at the bookstore. Make sure to stop in before you head out of town to get some purple and gold goodies.

The owner was always friendly and didn't seem to mind when I took an hour or more to pick out ten books that cost less than $3. He had an entire wall of used books that started at ten cents. I still have a ton of the books I bought from him; they all have the price stamped on the pages at the top. He also puts neat free posters, books, and postcards outside his store on a card table and rack. A friend of mine still has a picture of a fish in a gumball machine that we got in middle school--and we're 25 now! Go here. Buy books. It's a small store, but it's totally worth the trip.

The guy who runs this is a quiet but friendly type and there's a huge range of stuff here to peruse. Don't miss the hilarious and sometimes risque mixed postcard collection!
