In the age of Amazon, I can't really say I spend much time in bookstores anymore, which is a bit of a shame really. There is something really cool about meandering around and discovering new books through their colorful, interesting covers. Some just call out "read me"... While B&N is nowhere near as cool as The Strand, and never quite as cozy as once was Borders (rest in peace), it certainly is organized well, clean, bright and inviting. There weren't a lot of other customers around when we were there this evening, so it was pretty quiet and relaxed. My husband and I enjoyed strolling the store, checking out the books we randomly came across. We also enjoyed the cafe where we sat and had coffee and split a dessert. It was a nice place to spend a chilly evening after dinner for a bit. We reminisced about how we used to take our daughter to the bookstore all the time when she was small... remember those days? If you need to go to a local bookstore and pick up something to read, you really don't have much choice anymore... so it's good to know Barnes and Nobles is well kept and pleasant. read more

I purchased a book online for $29 plus tax and shipping and while waiting for it to come a friend gave me the same book! When I received it, I returned it immediately , still in the sealed shipping box i received it in so that it showed i had not even opened the book and had all info on my phone for return and they would only give me store credit! I am a thrift store book shopper, only ordered this book because it is a new release. I will NEVER order or step into another Barnes and Noble again! This is such BS! I will list for $4 bucks less and save someone else some money so they wont shop there for it either! read more

Here's the Scoop: Love, Love, love going to Barnes & Nobles to immerse myself in literature. It's like a well tossed salad. So many interesting ingredients mixed together. Comfy chairs on the second level, Starbucks on the first level, helpful friendly service throughout. Great finds on the sale racks. Overall a wonderful time whenever I come. Membership earns you points and discounts. I must stay focused and have a list of what I want because if I don't before I know it, I'll have a load of books sitting in an easy chair not realizing how much time has passed. Immersed! Leaving The Book Review in Huntington makes you appreciate a B&N. I love the fact that's close to my home. Here's the issue, I'm a die hard Kindle reader. I mean, I like the Nook and all but my Kindle has my heart. At any Barnes & Noble, At this location they have a nice magazine section, a large DVD area and I must point out, they "carry" Starbucks coffee but its not a Starbuck$ location. You want coffee? It's Starbucks, enjoy it! Pay for it with Apple pay and quit your whining. Sure there are big, online book stores. Do you know what its like to grab a paperback, sit on a chair and read a few chapters? Of a paperback, not a E-Book. That will never go away, books and print media still rule no matter how many folks predicted at Y2K all these stores would be obsolete. They didn't predict Apple changing the music industry. Remember Tower records? The way of the Dodo bird. Barnes & Noble, they'll still be here selling coffee and books for the next 25 years. And if you read as much as I do, spend the $25 annual fee and become a member! read more

Not the Barnes and Nobles of the 90s - very difficult to find what your looking for in this and other Barnes & Nobles. Plus the cashiers are very slow and the one I had today didn't even bother asking if I was a rewards card member or not - as a matter of fact he kept huffing and puffing like he didn't want to be there - very unprofessional (especially for a man in his 50s). And regarding the Starbucks within Barnes & Nobles - the barista making the beverages today was ridiculously slow, she couldn't have been more than 21 years old but she moved as though she was 85, because of her the line was extremely long and slow moving. When it was finally time for her to prepare my order which was 2 small frappuccinos & 1 small iced mocha, it literally took her 23 minutes to do so - and that was only the frappuccino's - the cashier became frustrated with her and made the iced mocha herself. It also didn't help that at one point a Barnes & Nobles employee came in to hold a conversation with the incompetent barista. read more

Their inventory is a treasure. In an era where fewer and fewer people are reading books, Barnes & Noble is an oasis of intelligence and the last bastion of literacy in a culture preoccupied with body piercing, reality TV and processed foods smothered in cheese. Having said that, I cannot understand why the men's room at the Smithaven Mall store is so poorly maintained. I've been in that store on weekdays, weekends, afternoons and evenings. Anytime I go into the men's room, it looks like the aftermath of a soccer riot at a frat house during pledge week and smells like the inside of a dead fisherman's boot after a 3 week expedition trolling the darkest regions of Rush Limbaugh's colon. My favorite bookstore, the staff are generally friendly & helpful. Only downside is the lack of seating at the cafe. I get it with Covid, but you can definitely distance tables. I like to shop at a "brick and mortar" bookstore whenever possible. I like bookstores and they are disappearing. This is a nice well kept store and has bargain books so you won't go broke buying discounted books here. And it has a nice cafe and you can sit and browse through books wiwthiut buying them. But when a book that I could have bought online for $21 costs $30 in the store I can only think that b&n has already decided that its stores are doomed. read more

We love visiting this store but on our visit last night one of the staff went above and beyond the call of duty. There was a book that we could not find on the shelf or on any displays- it is popular and the staff member was leaving for the day BUT she searched the computer, shelves and then went downstairs to another display and got the book for us. I visited this Barnes & Noble as part of my Christmas shopping, and was satisfied with my visit. I was looking for some cookbooks and Settlers of Catan, both of which were in stock. The former had a huge selection, which I was easily able to sift through and make comparisons. Settlers was similarly easy to find, with many expansions available, however the price was higher than advertised online. Beyond the items I was looking for, the interior is a typical B&N, with a second-floor packed with toys. The staff seemed really busy due to the holidays, and lines started to form. Overall, this is an average B&N, and I recommend checking out the mall nearby if you're gift shopping. read more

This is a great Barnes & Noble location. It's very clean and well organized. I like the layout and it's pretty big. There are also a lot of children's toys and accesories in addition to just books. I think it's a great place for gift ideas. The displays on the main floor were very well kept. The stacks of books were almost picture perfect. There were many employees on duty ready to help and there were all extremely friendly. The cafe is small but quaint and is handicapped accesible. I accidentally walked into the area where the ramp was thinking it was the bathroom. Oops! The bathroom, once I found it was very clean as well. I went up to the second floor thinking that there were another entrance that connected this store to the rest of the mall. I did see a door but it was blocked by stacks of books and clearly was not in use. It did not connect with the rest of the mall but seemed to be an elevated outdoor area. Perhaps this is used in case of fires or other emergencies. The store had several shopper but was still very quiet overall. Definitely the type of store where you can grab a book and get some quiet reading done. read more

Best book store in the area, including Borders. There's a nice size full featured Starbucks inside with ample seating. Good place to study as they are open pretty late, 7 days a week. Only wish there were more electrical outlets for laptop use in the Starbucks seating area. Maybe you'll be sitting in an upstairs corner, against a wall. Maybe you'll be in one of the awkwardly placed individual office style chairs pushed against a wall. Wherever you land, don't expect to find a table, couch or any welcoming areas to study, discuss books or do anything that involves someone other than yourself. It's truly a sad sight. The social element of meeting friends at the book store to study or read seems to allude this Barnes & Noble. I am sure that it is a strategic business decision to help ward off individuals from treating a book store as a library but I am also sure that it deters business as this location does not provide any warm or welcoming attributes. Instead, a great deal of space on the first floor is dedicated to retail items such as calendar, office "art" and miscellaneous goods. If I HAVE to have a book, I may stop by this Barnes & Noble. Otherwise, I won't be returning. read more

Let me first clear up that this review isn't directed torwards Barnes & Nobles...it is specifically directed to the Barnes & Nobles Cafe inside it. The staff at this cafe is SLOW AS SNAILS. Nothing makes them move. Not a customer in a rush, not a customer whose been waiting a while, not a customer who wants to sit down. NOTHING. I come here once in a while when the Starbucks in the mall is packed on a Saturday & sometimes I like a more quiet atmosphere on my lunch & for that Barnes & Nobles is great. But everytime I come for lunch at the cafe the staff is so bad at service that it's rude to the customer & today I've had it & I'm giving my bad review. I come in the line is long & the staff is unaffected by the waiting customers, they take their ever loving time. I finally order & the cashier is distracted by the other customers getting impatient so now I need to repeat my order 3 times. I get my order & my drink is perfect, but my sandwich is half hot & half cold with the cheese barely melted (not the way a hot sandwich should be served), not to mention the sandwich looks nothing like the display sandwich. They are much less generous with how much is on the sandwich once the customer has already paid for it. Then they forget to give me my bananna. I go back up and ask for it, I waited 5 minutes for a bananna that when I got it it was almost rotted. It hadl brown spots all over it & i didn't eat it. It's not even worth complaining to the staff because they couldn't care less. Overall my experiences with this cafe are horrible & I've had it. Never coming here again. Barnes & Nobles is great for books, but should get their cafe staff in shape. read more

Great selection of books and DVDs. The layout is over a couple of floors - it's large and airy. There's enough space to find a quiet corner for a quick read. There's also a good sized Starbucks (much nicer than the one inside the mall). The only reason I drop a star is because toilet facilities were in dire need of attention :( read more

This Barnes & Noble has much less books than other Barnes I've been to. When you enter, you are greeted by magazines on one side and DVD's on the other. Almost the entire bottom floor is devoted to non book items. There are games, DVD's, Blu-Rays, Records, Starbucks, Magazines, Calendars, etc. The top floor has more books than the bottom floor, but still not nearly as much as I'm used to. It seems like books aren't as important as they used to be. Even the bookstore doesn't have that many. read more

This Barnes and Nobles has a great location near the mall. If anyone wants to go for a quick shop and then a book read this is the place for you. It has a great Starbucks Cafe for readers who drink coffee. It has futons and footrests sofas. I went there at 9am and I got a free sample of spiced latte while I was reading. However, nowadays Barnes and Nobles is becoming a child hangout place instead of a quiet book store. It is getting noisier with kids screaming and frolicking around. I feel that Barnes and Nobles should be a more quieter place for adults who want to read and relax. I still go there to find amazing books and etc. read more

i visit this store once per week and generally enjoy it. however, I've found that some of the staff are extremely unfit to serve customers. some appear sleep deprived and become very annoyed and irritated when asked a question. today, i was verbally insulted by one. i realize staffing is a daunting task in this day and age for retailers, however this store needs to clean house of its poorly fit eployees. read more

The Waiting Room by Rev. Dr. Lawrence C. Brown, Sr. was one of the most interesting books I've ever read. I fell asleep it reading and woke up reading it. I have read it three times and am reading it a fourth time. I couldn't put it down. I have found so many forms of the waiting room that causes me to look at life differently.
