We love checking out used bookstores wherever we visit. This one looks tiny from the outside but extends far back with an inviting use of the space, effective organization, great prices for books that are in excellent condition (many look almost new). Don't judge a book by it's cover. From the outside it seems like one small building but it's surprising how far the building goes once you're inside. I couldn't say the same for their parking lot though, it's not very big. They buy and sell used books and this place has A LOT: books (they also have rare/signed books on the floor and behind the regster), vinyls, and pictures. The front of the store has a more organized setup that label the shelves of what genre and the back of the store is where they keep their clearance items. I liked that they have staff picks descriptions or personal takeaways written on small note cards on the shelves and lots of places to sit around the store, especially in the back. I also noticed a sign on the wall saying you can rent out the clearance room in the back for events which is neat. read more

Love this bookstore. I often will bring in my already read books and donate them to the store while picking up a new one. I especially appreciate the staff recommended books. I almost always find one that I would have not considered. In the back there is a whole treasure trove of old books and it is fun to see if you can find one to grab on the way out. They have community events and I think it is great to have a local book store like this. Parking is easy as they have their own lot too. read more

There's just something about this place...I can't put my finger on it, but every time I come here I'm pleasantly surprised. I always end up hanging out for a lot longer than I planned. It's actually significantly larger than it appears on from the street view, but still maintains a cozy atmosphere. They have live music on the weekends, this weekend was an incredible band called The Tone Healers. I plan on adding this to our Friday or Saturday eve Huntington walkabouts. The book revue... I mean, The Next Chapter... is my favorite independent bookstore in the world. Nowhere else have I found such cheap and unusual used books in such great condition. The feeling you get when you walk inside can't be beat... it has that magical old book smell without being dingy or worn down, there's always soft jazz music playing, and there are many big squishy couches and chairs to read in. No matter what time you're there, it never seems too crowded (because of how big the building's footprint is), and best of all, they have late hours!! Browsing for a good book is the perfect thing to do after a nice dinner on Main Street! The staff at TNC are also very sweet and helpful, and I have never been led astray by their book recommendations! Mallory and Emily in particular seem to have the best ones, that align most with my personal taste. There are always knowledgeable staff members around to help you find whatever book you're looking for, and if they don't have it, they always offer to order it for you to pick up. They've recently put up signs above every section that really help with organization too. Additionally, I love The Next Chapter's commitment to their community. Not only are they a book store, but also an event space, a venue for music and art, and a marketplace for local craftspeople. Their weekend and winter markets are always so much fun, and you can always find something unique there. read more

Genuinely the best bookstore on all of Long Island!! Has the best vibes and I could hang out here all day. The staff is super friendly and inviting! I love browsing here for hours and it's a great place to support! Definitely recommend coming here. The prices are also extremely fair and the selection is way more than large! read more

I am so disappointed in this book store. I ordered and paid for two signed copies of Steve Schirrippa's book Willie Meets the World. Unfortunately, I could not attend the event. Allison of the book store assured me that she would hold the books. When I went to pick them up, Allison didn't have the two books. She had only one book and it was not signed It just had a yellow sticky note So disappointed. Such incompetence from Allison and the book store. read more

I would love to give The Next Chapter a rave review. I donated $$$ to the campaign to keep this book store in Huntington. Weirdly, every time I visit, I feel as though the staff are sour. I visited a few months ago when my friend and author was giving a reading. He mentioned to the woman organizing the event that I'm also an author ... she didn't take a moment to even acknowledge me. I honestly don't care to do public events, but I'm a serious journalist and author. I felt dismissed. When I go to the checkout counter, if I'm spending less than $35, my loyalty card is viewed as ... well, again, I would use the word dismissed. I always felt welcomed at the Book Revue. read more

Cute bookstore a bit removed from town with ample space to browse. While billed as a spiritual successor to the Book Revue, which had been open for some 40 years, the Next Chapter's stock appears to be more heavily focused on used books than I remember Book Revue's to be. It's fun for the thrill of the browse but much of the selection appears to be random or donated rather than curated. There is a boutique market in the shop's parking lot on Saturdays, which was quiet and modestly populated when I was there. To be this out of the way and yet have substantial foot traffic would appear that they were right that Huntington still wanted a book store. read more

As of this review, The Next Chapter has finally opened, and I was very glad to have visited them on their first weekend. For many of you, The Book Revue was probably as important in your bookish lives as it was in mine--easily the greatest independent book store around. I was distraught over their eventual closing, and felt a huge hole in Huntington. While Escape Pod Comics is the greatest visual book store one could hope for, the town was in shambles without a good, old-fashioned, classic used and new, just "book" store. (Even though TNC dabbles in comics, too, and the distinction is unnecessary--books is books.) Fear not; The Next Chapter carries forth the relaxing charm, many aisles, and endless used and remainder books of Book Revue's yore. It is another wonderful, independent book store that has already accomplished quite a lot. The space is newer, brighter, and livelier than I remember Revue being, the staff are all extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and present, and the layout...could use some work, but I won't dare make a point of that. I know the owners and many of the staff here worked at BR for many years, and it shows in how polished and well thought-out the store is already. For such an immense undertaking that is a new store opening, the team here have outdone themselves. I am happy to welcome a new book store into this world. I am happier still to see the Book Revue's spirit live on. (Some might say it is "The Bookstore We Became") I am happiest yet that The Next Chapter has chosen to continue the noble, righteous tradition of late night hours (11pm every Friday and Saturday! 10pm during the week! 9pm Sunday!) that any great book, record, or wanderer's store absolutely should. (Anyone remember Tower Records and Virgin Megastore? I miss those late suburban midnights picking out DVDs and new albums.) Do I hope they eventually install a cafe with those amazing cookies and iced coffees? Sure. But the store stands on its own, cookies or no. 5 easy stars, and a staunch recommendation. Let's all support this store and never have to worry about them struggling to pay rising rents. It's hard in these streets for an independently owned and operated used/new bookshop. BONUS CHAPTER: I meant what I said about Escape Pod Comics, just a few minutes into town on Main Street. Absolutely worth the trip if you have any interest in graphic novels, comics, YA and Kid's books, and many used/$1 issues. It is a bastion of holy illustration for all who appreciate the medium, and very likely my favorite comic shop anywhere. read more

Book Revue was a staple of Huntington for so long and we were shocked to hear it go. When Next Chapter opened as a semi legacy store we were so happy! Similar concept but now with ample parking! I do kinda wish there was a mini cafe inside to work though Stella Blue is right next door. Maybe an extension could be added for that one day? Great layout and nice staff. I do wish sci-fi/fantasy was a bit larger but that's just me. read more

Incredible bookstore. It goes back a lot deeper than you think from the outside. They have a huge selection of new books upfront and some amazing selections of older classic books in the back. You can spend all day there. Plus, they also have record albums for very reasonable prices. The staff is fantastic. read more

I meant to write this earlier but holidays! What an exceptionally lovely shop! Moved back from overseas after 4 years and was so excited to have this beautiful experience visiting the store and speaking to the owner, employees as well. They are helpful, kind and welcoming. The vibe isn't a store, it's like a special library and then I spotted the glorious vinyl collection! I think I spent 2 hours inside. I went to their first Book Club meeting in January. About 19 people showed up despite the pouring rain. Emily was an excellent book club leader - great discussion and feed back from all. I missed the February meeting but plan to attend in March. So glad this book store has opened! read more

A bookstore, is (was) the HEART of any town or village. With Book Revue now DUST in the wind, this place feels like a quick patch-up kit. It's not run very professionally and you feel like they are looking up prices online to price things (incorrectly at that) . They have an area with "collectible paperbacks" from the 1950s. But in BAD shape , worn out covers , dog-eared , etc. But the prices on them seem to be the "Mint/Excellent" tags. Goofball move- makes the manager look stupid. Also , the books have these little paper tags popping out - that looks silly as well. LASTLY , collectible paper back books should be in plastic bags so they don't get even worse. They have a "vinyl" section for vinyl record addicts - but the selection is pretty bad -- again, makes the management look foolish. I have a feeling this place is run by 20-somethings . The staff is friendly because , duh, who doesn't want a soft comfy bookstore job? We did make a few purchases from the used "ART" section that were inexpensive and made us feel like we were back at Book Revue. Overall , if you need a bookstore "fix" and just wanna walk off dinner: do come here and browse. You might find something worth buying. But the "collectible" areas are an embarrassment . read more
