I'd never been here before, and I usually make a point of going to locally owned bookstores, but had a gift card to burn! This space in Calhoun Square area is surprisingly large and bright. I really wanted a new book. I was trying to psych myself up to go to my usual location in a mall, but Christmas Eve Day? Sounded very... people-y. I did not want to deal with a parking lot full of frantic last-minute shoppers. Luckily, I absent-mindedly drove in the wrong direction, and thanks to muscle memory and the Yelp app remembered this location. Score! I was delighted to discover that there was tons of parking, and I was even more pleased to discover an excellent selection of business books--just what I was looking for. I immediately spotted a book that I had been eyeing for a while and snagged it, then perused the other titles until I found another book that I simply had to have. Making my purchase was easy as pie thanks to a highly efficient cashier person. I saved a good chunk thanks to being a member (a great investment if you live your books like I love mine). All in all? It was a most satisfying experience. Definitely check out this location if you're in the market for gifts, too--they have a great selection of books for varied interests, and you can always find something wonderful at a great price. This is the local B&N in my neighborhood. I like this location because it reminds me of the old-school B&N's before their stores became giant behemoths with escalators and coffee shops. There are 2 coffee shops within 100 yards of this shop (1 being next door), so don't get all worked up when you see it missing here. Even with the reduced size, we enjoy taking the kids there and spending lots of time finding a good book or a puzzle. We always find something here. I also like the staff. They are very friendly and helpful when we are looking for something specific. I also like this location because you can pick up a book or a magazine and walk to one of the 3 lakes nearby and chill out and read. read more

I was on the receiving end of the best customer service in my LIFE today at this Barnes and Noble. I'm seriously going through it right now so I went in looking for a book escape. Joe approached and asked if I needed any help, I told him I always welcome recommendations. He asked what i'd recently read and enjoyed, then brought me a STACK of books and gave me a mini book report on each. After going through each and every one, he told me to take my time and make my selections but not to feel any pressure about buying any of them. This kind of service is so hard to come by these days and Joe really went above and beyond. read more

I live in CA and placed an order for my relative to pick up, but due to COVID-19 and my relative being considered a high risk group, she was hesitant to leave her home. Elizabeth then comes to the rescue and not only is beyond kind, she was willing to go way beyond the call of duty and personally deliver the item to my family member's home. When I feel like seeing a book in person instead of impulsively buying it online, sometimes I head to Barnes and Noble. It's also an excuse to peruse through some new books. But not this one. Compared to other locations, the Uptown B&N serves as the runt, since it's smaller and lacks a Starbucks. But yo, I don't put too much weight on that. My major gripe about this location is the small selection. For example, what the hell is going on with the Cookbooks section? While I do enjoy making some of Barefoot Contessa's recipes, I don't think it's necessary to have eleven of her books displayed. Why aren't other rockstar chefs being showcased? The staff there might as well rename the section "Barefoot Contessa's Wall of Awesomeness." (I'm not hating on Contessa -because I really do love her Saffron Risotto with Butternut Squash- but eleven? C'mon!) I did snag Christine Ha's new cookbook at this location, though. (Try her chao ga recipe.) This store MAY be alright for what you need, but there are certainly better B&Ns out there with larger selections. read more

There are two different pages for the same B&N. I assume this is the right one? I'm kinda teetering between a 2.5 - 3, but I'll settle for 3 since the books selection is decent and the manager I spoke to (prior to my incident) was very helpful. But unfortunately, it ends there. Why? The staff. Spacey? Bored? Can't be bothered? Oblivious? Too busy having conversations of their own to help you? Yeahhh....I'd say all of those descriptions are pretty spot on. But I probably could have overlooked all of that if it weren't for my most recent experience. I had ordered a bunch of books to be delivered to their location (since then I wouldn't have to pay for shipping), received the email that they had been shipped, and waited to hear from the Calhoun B&N... ...and waited.... ...and waited. **Granted**, the shipping said that it would take 2 - 6 business days to be received, but I figured that since I got the notification email early in the week, it would be highly likely that they would have received it pretty quickly. So, I waited until 5 days after receiving that email to call B&N Calhoun and see if my books had arrived yet. Now, I realize that it wasn't necessarily the person on the phone's fault for them misplacing my box of books as one of THEIR boxes of books (...or was it? dundunDUUNNNNNN!), however - if you cannot find my phone number in your system, cannot find my substantial book order that I pre-paid for, and if I ask to speak to a store manager, be like Nike - JUST DO IT. Especially if you can tell that I'm getting annoyed at your repeated comment of "well, I'm not finding any order for that phone number" instead of "let me go and ask someone". Peeved + frustrated + insulted = me post-phone call And to be clear, it wasn't just because they didn't have my books, but more the low quality of customer service I received. The funny thing is is that about 5 or so minutes after I got off the phone with the B&N Calhoun staff member, I received a phone call that they HAD found my books. Sorry Barnes & Noble Calhoun, but there are plenty of other B&N fish in the sea. read more

So many times I forget that there's a Barnes & Noble SO close to me... (Sorry B&N!) It's pretty much like all the other Barnes & Noble locations, WITH THE EXCEPTION that there is no cafe here. So if you were wanting to stop in for a cup of tea and cookie - - no go here. However, literally right next door is an amazing bakery. :) Other things to note... staff is super friendly here, like pretty much every other B&N. Travel section (my fav) is to the far upper left, west side. Nice, long window bench area in the magazine section to read up. read more

Although ordering books on Amazon is cheaper, I much rather buy my books at Barnes and Noble. The customer service is unbeatable. Also, I hate paying those pesky shipping costs. At B&N, there is no shipping involved and you get your book instantly. Another great part of shopping at an actual bookstore is talking to the staff. I've been to a lot of B&N throughout the TC for a couple of decades now. I was in the area for our monthly brunch club, and had a coupon. I usually am looking for new mysteries. In the new section of a couple of authors, they had last years books displayed. I brought this to someone's attention. She was very helpful, and that she was even there is more than I can say about most stores. She looked it up, and thought they may have sold out, and offered to order it for me. I declined because it should have been automatically reordered. I'm sure the authors would be thrilled with this attention to their book sales. I've heard sounds that these may go by the wayside just like Borders. This might be why. Turns out the mini Highland location had it. read more

Hm. I've been to my fair share of B&Ns. This one is one of the smallest ones I've ever been to. The people here are friendly and helpful when you want them to be, otherwise they let you roam as you please. There isn't much selection of books though since their square footage is on the limited side. Their "special" sections of bargain priced books is also on the smaller side, and of course because of the size, there isn't a Starbucks or cafe. You won't see any Nook displays out or as many "recommended" sections. This is the only B&N convenient to me and I was nearby getting a massage. It was a good place to walk around for about 30 minutes but that was about it. It'd be great to have a B&N somewhere close where I could get some coffee, buy a magazine or a book, and start reading. It'd be a great place to sit and relax while it's raining or snowing outside. But I think I'm going to have to continue my trek to find another bookstore that feels homier. read more

I usually go here to pick up gift books for children. Depending on who's in the children's section I get average to good assistance. At least they had a decent selection of wrapping papers on my last visit. I really like that they offer the option to email the receipt. read more

I love this store because they have a really good selection of fun little books that make for great gifts. I went in here to look for some books to get my friend who is in the hospital. We found some perfect little things. They were on sale too, which is always a good thing. I thought that they would have more greeting cards and stuff, but they had a real lack luster selection of those things. As for books.. Well, it is a book store! Big selection, and a somewhat knowledgeable staff! The people working here yesterday, were not SUPER nice, but they weren't bad. Asking for help seemed to kinda irk them a bit, but whatever. I do think that this chain of bookstores is easier to find certain books vs other ones.. ahem, Borders.. I always have the hardest time in that place! read more

I had an issue with downloading ebooks onto my nook, and I tried for about 3 hours on my own to figure it out, I used the barnes and noble hotline and I was just not getting it and so I called Barnes and Noble on Lake Street and asked if someone could help me if I was to come in. I had the privilege to work with two amazing people that stayed with me until we figured it and now everything works! I would defiantly go there again!
