I've been here before, but this was the first time I checked out the annex portion of the store, which houses used books. If you are seeking a mystery book, this is the place to go as they've got it all. The prices of the used books were higher than I would have expected (nearly $14 for a used hardcover), but the selection makes it worth it. I liked the cute seating area in the annex a lot it looked very comfy. There is street parking near the store, but it's on a very busy street. That busy street made it feel like I was part of the video game Frogger trying to get back into traffic after parking!

It's an unassuming looking store from the outside but once inside. You can tell they have a solid selection. It was filled top to bottom with shelves. They also take Apple Pay which is nice! There's another room called the Annex. You can ask to see. They will take you through a door down a hallways and into the room. Here you can find first editions of mystery books. Or even books written as far back as the 40s! Solid store. Decent prices! They also gave a book club which meets on certain days. Check it out

It overlooks the river in downtown Stillwater. There is a coffee shop attached to the bookstore. It's smallish in size, but seems to place an emphasis on quality vs quantity. It is a women owned store. Downtown Stillwater is quaint, and an afternoon strolling the shops, including this one, would be lovely. There is a small parking lot.

Such a gem! I recently stayed in downtown Minneapolis for a work trip and I always check for…read morebookstores in the area whenever I travel. I was so excited to learn of a black woman owned indie bookstore just a short walk from my hotel! Located in the Skyway, you can access via the Skyway or the street. It can be tricky to find using Google/Apple Maps from inside the Skyway. The app doesn't get a good signal inside, so it's easier to find from the street if you're unfamiliar with the Skyway. I got lost and asked the security guards in the mall for directions and they told me that all the bookstores downtown closed after the pandemic. I'm so glad I didn't listen to them and set off outside to find my way. Once I arrived after a 5 minute walk from the Marquette Hotel, I was in a book lovers dream! The bookstore is filled with an array of inventory, including local books, classics, new releases, children & teen books, accessories like bookmarks and stickers and even things for the home like candles and sage bundles. The owner, Miss Mary is just delightful. She introduced herself and we chatted for a while and let me know she was available if I needed help, I also noticed that she gave me space to browse freely and take in everything the store had to offer. If you are local, or visiting the area, please do yourself a favor and stop in to check out Strive Bookstore. We need to support our indie bookstores now more than ever!

Ashamed to say that I paid this store my first visit this past week especially with how long…read morethey've been open. I needed to escape my home and walked downtown. Popped in here for a totally unplanned visit and if they weren't closing in an hour it would have been really hard for me to leave. What a comforting corner in what can sometimes be gloomy downtown Minneapolis. Solid book collection. Found out they host book clubs and you can even start your own and host it there. There's tons of comfy seating. Bonus points that it's black owned! Will be back!

Showing my bookstore-loving mom around the city and really happy I decided to stop into this one…read more Very LGBTQ friendly and progressive atmosphere with mostly local artists and authors on display. The staff was very helpful to a few people who came in with questions but I was just there browsing. They've got a bunch of free and discounted things like pamphlets, books, art, etc. The selection isn't huge so if your aim is to support local and shop a curated, third-space collection you'll love it here.

Maybe I'm just a hater, but I definitely found the lack of selection to be disappointing. However, It is a very small bookstore, so perhaps this is out of their control. I'm sure there is someone who loves this place, but it is not the bookstore for me. Also, they do require you to wear a mask (as of May 2025), so just be aware of that (but they do provide some at their "front desk" of sorts)

Weird and wonderful, eclectic selection of used books in a pocket-sized space. The first book that…read morecaught my eye was a book in French about China. My husband saw a book about making soymilk and a graphic introduction to Derrida directly opposite. How many bookstores can give you that kind of experience? It's the kind of store where you will find your college reading list (words of one fellow customer). Or that old cookbook that your Mom used to have. That random book your college friend told you about but you never bothered to pick up. A classic graphic novel that your art class peers recommended. You won't find everything you ever wanted to read, but there's a good chance you will find something that you didn't know you wanted to read. The store is a real community effort. One of the owner's friends happened to be there, and said that the owner had another store-full of books in his house. He had been collecting books over 15-20 years, carefully curating them for just this time. The shelves were made with brackets from a local department store that was closing. The owner's brother made the beautiful book cases on the floor. We found this place by chance looking for something to do Christmas day. In the spirit of the bookstore name, they had Jewish trivia, bagels, and mimosas. Some other people trickled in for the trivia, others did kind of float in and browse the books. We gathered around a small table toward the front and had a blast. The store was closing up soon after our trivia game ended, so I'll be back at some other time when it's warmer. A great addition to the neighborhood!

It had a surreal feel as if I was visiting a hobbit house with lovingly curated book selections. It was more than visiting a bookseller coming here; it felt like having an experience. The attention to detail to the little reading nooks and vignettes was evident in every corner of the store, with an emphasis on women's voices, diversity, and children. This is a woman owned store, and her favorite genre is historical fiction, which was evident as this area was very well stocked. There were several spots to sit and gander at a book (including a couple of adorable children's reading nooks) before deciding to purchase, which is a must have in any book store I visit. There is a very small shared parking lot and street parking.

Very fun decor inside and super kind and helpful staff. They have a little vending machine at the counter where you can purchase a coin, drop it in and turn the knob and out comes a packet of small trinkets made by some local artists which is super fun and unique and a little mystery each time. They also have some pre owned book racks that have books for $5, $8, and $12 which is a great deal and they come from a variety of different genres.

The front has new books, upcoming author events, and upcoming community events. There were also romance bookish things to buy like a "Brunch Book Club" candle (fitting, I know!). I saw plenty of books I've read and added plenty more to my TBR. You can find notes and recommendations throughout the shelves. I thought a couple of series were in curious places, but they fit within multiple categories, so I understood in the end.
