I was anxious about transferring my parent's ashes from two treasured, antique urns into x-rayable, disposable containers to transport them to Scotland. Within 48 hours Mr. Lodge called to say he had obtained suitable containers and was ready to make the transfer. When I arrived with the ashes, he spent at least 30 minutes putting me at ease, chatting about the circumstances of my parent's deaths, discussing family and community. Within another day, he called to tell me that the transfer had been made. It was apparently more work than he'd expected, since one urn had been sealed by the out-of-town funeral chapel with regular bath-tub caulk and required a patient hand (with a hair dryer) to open it without breaking it! Mr. Lodge's associate was waiting for me and not only provided the ashes in the new containers, boxed and labelled in a handy tote bag, but the antique urns had been cleaned, and he offered to pack them in a box with bubble wrap to ensure their safety on my way home. When I enquired about the cost for this service, I was told that it had been their pleasure to help, and that no cost applied. While I hope I won't require their help in the near future, I will surely recommend the friendly, compassionate staff at W.C. Town to anyone in the Durham region requiring such services.

We came here to help an overwhelmed family plan their loved one's funeral service. Important questions to keep in mind are: what are the wishes of the deceased, and what does the family need to help them with the process of grieving. There are many options (ask for the cost of each) that the funeral home will give you, but you need to keep in mind that you are the one who decides what you want to include. A priority list needs to be made so important issues are addressed. Bring a trusted friend, family member or clergy member who can keep a cool head to help sort things out. Comfortable and spacious viewing rooms and a nice little dining room to hold a reception afterwards. I appreciated that they provided umbrellas to get back and forth between the two buildings and your car when it rained. Staff are respectful.

We had the viewing, funeral service, and reception at McEachnie. Dayle and Delores were wonderful Hostesses, and everyone raved about the food provided (delicious and abundant). We asked for a Caribbean menu and the catering chef did not disappoint. If you need to plan a celebration of your loved ones life, I would highly recommend McEachnie Funeral Home.
