We stumbled upon this market accidentally on our travels through the Cape and what a happy discovery! We went in just to explore and ended up coming away with items for an impromptu picnic, including some fabulous in-house made turkey, Boar's Head havarti and a loaf of Massachusetts made whole wheat sourdough. They had a good cheese selection, impressive looking "hot-bar" items, pies and pastries, and many sub/panini selections. But the best part - the prices were very very reasonable, especially for a market of this caliber. read more

My family and I recently rented a cabin in Cape Cod Village and this was the closest grocery store. This place offers a great selection for a local grocery store, but it is a total tourist trap. $6.99 for a bag of tortilla chips?? $25.00 for a case of Budweiser? Other things were pretty moderately priced though. Great selection...just check the prices before you bring it to the counter! read more

I really can't believe how badly this once great village asset has been run down. The shelves have been empty for almost a year. There is so little to sell, I don't know how they are staying in business. It's a depressing sight and the owner's kids just laugh at the situation and make excuses when asked what's happened. Their liquor dept. literally has 6 bottles on the vast empty shelves. The only thing they seem to sell are crummy sandwiches to the courthouse crowd. read more

We have 'happened' on this market twice in our travels to the Cape. And both times, I have had (and loved) the Cuban Panini ($8.99). The sandwiches here are huge and absolutely delicious. There is limited outside seating, so go take your delicious sandwich and find a pleasant place to munch. There's also hot entrees, salads, soups, pizza and a full market of both standard and specialty goods, wines, etc. Definitely a gem of a spot to get a nice take-out or take-home meal. Prices are reasonable for a local market, and the shelves are stocked with some gems. read more

This place has everything a general store should have, including wide wooden floors that creak as you move across them while checking out all the goodies on each shelf! There is plenty of penny candy, magazines, Cape Cod t-shirts, and lots of items that you would find in a 5&10 type store. They even sell fresh cranberries out of a wooden crate...straight from the bog. One of the best aspects of this store is the upstairs. It's kind of half museum and half store with lots of old fashioned signs, christmas ornaments, and an entire corner devoted to miniature battleship replicas. Cool place to check out the local flare with a bit of nostalgia. read more

Everything is amazing. Ive lived nearby for 24 years and I get coffee across the parking lot at Nirvana every morning. I come in almost daily to get some hot food at their buffet area thing by the deli. I'm a picky eater and almost always find something good. My favorite are the sweet chili wings. I also grab meat to Bbq on sandy neck almost daily in the summer. Henry the cashier is awesome, always makes me smile. Growing up in Barnstable village I knew the Barnstable General Store very well which was just awful. It is night and day compared to the Barnstable Market. It makes me a little bit more proud to live in Barnstable village. read more

Good stop for a to go lunch before hitting sandy neck. Decent sandwiches and hot table. Need to work on salad selection- most of the salads are filled with iceberg lettuce and not much vegetables or protein. Solid beer and wine selection, pricey but you are supporting local businesses! I travel the entire state and go to EVERY single city and town in Massachusetts and eat out everyday (my job requires it) and this is one of the BEST general stores and lunch places in the state! They have a decent sized wine shop, grocery area and deli that makes made to order sandwiches. Every time I am in town I stop to get a freshly made sandwich. It is INCREDIBLY reasonably priced in comparison to most lunch places in the ENTIRE state. I always pickup one of the lunch specials they have under a heat lamp (grab and go) or get a huge fresh made sub for under 6 bucks! wow... I have been stopping in here for many years and will continue to make it a stop off. If you are heading to the beach or have a court case being heard across the street (good luck!)... this is your stop off! read more

This place has everything you could possible need. I love it! We came to grab some things for dinner and also for wine, beer, and snacks to bring to the beach. I go to Barnstable Market probably once a month because I want to love it! The staff is very friendly, the food is fresh, and there is a large selection of goods. However, they just cannot consistently get my order right---and it is the most simple, boring order ever! Turkey, cheese, onion, and mayo on whatever choice of bread. Typically, when my order is messed up, it's because the sandwich maker gives me ham. Who wants ham and purple onion? Not sure, but the staff is determined to make me like it. Yesterday, though, after waiting 12min for my sandwich, I received turkey, cheese, and tomato. No onion, no mayo (no ham, but I did see her slice the ham first then realize what she did...which is why I'm assuming it took so long for my wrap). Could I eat it? Sure. And do I understand mistakes happen? Of course. However, at least every third time I go, my order is not correct. And, while not a super expensive place, it's still a $7 or $8 dollar sandwich (depending on if I get the baguette!) and I expect it to be correct, particularly because it's so easy of an order! When they're good, they are GREAT, but I'm starting to get really annoyed with the lack of attention paid. So my advice is, no matter how busy or inconvenient--check your order before you leave the store! read more

As a long-time resident, it's wonderful to have such a great store in the neighborhood. This market is THE place for meat and poultry - a real butcher shop inside a very nice grocery market. They carry a nice assortment of products, particularly for their size. Baked goods, wine and beer, deli, produce, nice snack foods and crackers... I wish more of the produce were organic, but then it would be more expensive. Parking is crazy too - but that's because the place is so nice - atmosphere as well as merchandise. We had the best cranberry chicken salad from here! Made by fancy's and delicious with huge chunks of white chicken breast and delicious cranberries and nuts in it! Treated my friend to a sandwich. Ordered two sandwiches off of the menu, the Turkey Club and the Real Italian. Ordered as is as detailed exactly on the menu, no special requests. To start with the two sandwiches were mislabeled, no big deal, easy swap out. The turkey club had no mayo, no avocado, and no bacon. Basically was a dry turkey and cheese sandwich with lettuce and tomato, for $7.99. The two best parts of the sandwich, the avocado, and the bacon (that makes a sandwich a "club") and the reason my friend selected it, were missing. I selected the Italian which disappointingly was made without pickles, one of my favorite parts of an italian. As the sandwiches are made to go and we went to the beach to eat there was not an option to go back into the store to remedy the mistakes. We are year-round residents and the choice of places order food from in that particular area this time of year is limited. We would be hesitant to order a sandwich here again as two out of two ordered during the same visit were made incorrectly and not as described on the menu. read more

One of my favorite places in the Village! The staff is friendly and courteous, the hot bar and deli have a wide range of excellent options and the pizzas are great. They have a wonderful selection of wines and beers, too! A bit pricier than the local grocery chain, but it is a pleasurable, one stop shopping experience. read more
