Single parents: I would think carefully before purchasing a membership here…read more My membership was terminated because I brought my children into the gym after being told they were required to remain in a separate room, out of my sight, with a table and chairs. Apparently, having my kids sit in another room is preferable to having them near me while I train. I'm a single mother. I don't have the luxury of simply leaving my children with another parent every time I want to work out. Sometimes my children being with me is the only way I GET to train. What really gets me is the irony of a fitness business taking membership money from parents while creating policies that can make it incredibly difficult for those same parents to actually use the facility. And when I didn't comply? My membership was terminated. The message I received characterized my children as "playing around on the gym floor with little supervision," informed me that there was surveillance footage, and warned me that returning would be considered trespassing. All over a mom bringing her kids to the gym. Safety rules? Absolutely. But there is a HUGE difference between keeping children safe and making parents feel as though their children are a problem simply for existing in a fitness space. And here's where this experience has taught me something as a trainer: I will NEVER build my coaching business this way. I train moms. I train dads. And if one of my clients says, "I don't have childcare today. Can I bring my kids?" -- bring them. Bring the coloring books. Bring the snacks. Let them watch Mom deadlift. Let them watch Dad get stronger. Let them see their parent choosing their health. Because sometimes "just find childcare" isn't reality. Sometimes it's bring your children or don't get to show up for yourself at all. A business has every right to create whatever policies it chooses. And consumers have every right to know what those policies actually look like before handing over their money. So, single moms and dads: ask the questions BEFORE you purchase the membership. Ask where your children are allowed to be. Ask whether you can see them while you train. Ask what happens when childcare falls through. I won't be returning. But I absolutely will take this experience with me as I continue building a fitness community where parents don't have to choose between being a good parent and taking care of themselves. Our kids aren't inconveniences. And parents belong in fitness spaces too.

Located in Chesterly park, just off 40th and River Road, it's easy to get to and go from. The place has tons of different spaces within, including an aquatic center for kids with a number of waterslides, including two that actually go out the building and inside again, as well as waiting pools and a small lazy river. The place gets busy on weekends, but thus far hasn't been overwhelming! There's a large Olympic size pool for laps as well as an adults only warmer pool and a bit ole hot tub! Downstairs is a very nice basketball court As well as locker rooms and family locker rooms. All of the lockers are day use only, so it shouldn't create the issues of not being able to store your stuff anywhere. Upstairs love the free weights, nautilus machines, treadmills/elliptical machines and a running track. All the machines allow you to track your progress over time as well. Massage Chair Insanity? I am a huge fan of Planet Fitness,…read morelocated on Summitview Ave. This gym has a great staff and excellent facilities, which are scrubbed within an inch of their lives. Memberships are affordable and great value as part of the Planet Fitness brand promise. But...there is one issue that occupies a growing space in my cranium and now deserves some virtual airtime, massage chair #1. This chair is part of the Black Card membership service, which provides members additional spa-related services at a higher monthly price. From a brand promise perspective, this sets the service level higher. Now, this chair has had ongoing functional health issues for months. Many members have notified gym staff when it doesn't work, and an outside repair service person has attempted to fix the chair unsuccessfully. This repeated behavior raises questions of sanity and a failed brand promise. At what point does the cost of repairs exceed the cost of replacing this chair with a new one? The quote that defines insanity as repeating the same behavior and expecting a different outcome springs to mind. Removing or refusing to fix the chair fails Planet Fitness' brand promise, especially at the Black Card membership level. For me, this Planet Fitness would need to replace the chair with a new one to restore what is now becoming a broken brand promise, not to mention a royal annoyance. If you can and are a member, mention it to the staff. Maybe the owner of this Planet Fitness location needs to hear a critical mass of complaints before they make good on their brand promise. Also, if you are looking for a great place to workout, join this gym. Don't let this minor fix negatively influence your decision. This place is well worth the price of admission. Feedback like this is intended to keep standards high for all current and future members.
