Tapped Beer (4/5): We had the Arkansas Black (1/5), Donuts vs Mermaids (5/5), Soft Hands (3/5), Unicorn Fuel Dry Cider with Rosehips and Hibiscus (3/5). The Donuts vs Mermaids was absolutely amazing! They had 20 on tap. Tapped Wine (4/5): I tried a red organic wine (1/5) and a rose (5/5). They had 12 on tap. Beer & Wine to-go options (5/5): They had so many different types of wine, beer, seltzers, and mead to choose from! You can buy single cans, but they are more per than just buying the pack. Process (5/5): This place is pretty neat! You start a tab, you get a card, and you insert the card into slots in order to pour your own beer or wine. You can control how much you want since you only get charged on how much you pour! I love this idea! Seating (4/5): The outside seating was limited. 1 room that was outside and LOUD, 1 room that was connected to the outside room and the inner room surrounded by windows, and then the main inner room with tables and was opened to the beer & wine mart side. Best beer store I've been to, and I'm a beer snob from Richmond. Staff is amazing, selection is unmatched by a mile, and the pour your own beer section is fantastic. They always have great beer on tap from some of the top breweries in the world, and their brewer makes some top notch stuff as well (especially sours). It's pretty big and has the cleanest bathrooms I've seen at a brewery. I've never had any of their deli type menu but it looks solid. Only con is that I spend too much between here and the inevitable trip to Mellow Mushroom after. read more

When we weren't able to get a Moët & Chandon Nectar Imperial Champagne like we one we loved on our Fall honeymoon, the friendly manager here suggested one of her favorites, the Laurent-Perrier Cuvée Brut. Before it had time to cool in our refrigerator, they called back. Owner Martin said the Laurent- Perrier Harmony Demi-Sec Champagne was more similar to the Moet & Chandon that we originally wanted. Martin insisted on driving to our home 10 miles from Barrel Chest and trading out the bottles for us! They made some loyal customers of us today. read more

Hands down one of the most diverse bottle shops I've ever been to, many bottles one wouldn't find elsewhere. A great stop for the avid beer and wine collector. Rows and rows of beer and wine bottles in the front. Several selections of beer on tap, glasses of wine for purchase, and little nibbles of food at the bar in the back. Imagine shopping for and drinking your favorite beers/wine at the same time... could be dangerous. For me, it was an adventure. The staff was VERY knowledgeable of inventory and so helpful to me in finding what I had on my shopping list. THANKS GUYS! read more

We came on a Friday night and had a lovely experience! I did the dry rosé flight with food pairings and it was great. One of the staff came by afterward and asked which I liked best, after I told him he brought over two bottles - one was the one I liked and one was a similar bottle at about half the price. (!!!) My husband sampled several beers, too, and enjoyed them. We wish they offered flights or smaller pours - the smallest is a 4 oz and you can only try so many of those and still drive home! read more

Great selection of microbrews and wine. They have a cute little bar in the back with taps that change weekly. They also serve small treats like sandwiches and nachos. There is a seating area on the side as well good for bigger groups. The prices are fair and to fill a growler there costs next to nothing. A great addition to Roanoke, where cool stuff like this is hard to find at times. The service is friendly and helpful, which goes a long way as well. read more

This is easily my favorite bar in town. Barrel Chest has the best selection of beer that I've found anywhere in Roanoke on the retail side. There are places with more extensive lists on draft, but nobody switches it up more frequently than the bar here, and the nano-brewery is constantly churning out limited run oddities. They're not always winners, but they're always worth trying, and there are fifteen taps to choose from, to say nothing of the cans and mead. read more

Awesome local spot! Without a doubt, the best craft beer selection in Roanoke. The tasting bar offers a wide variety of wines by the glass and beers on tap. The prices are very reasonable and you have the option of ordering different size pours (example, you can order a 5 oz glass of wine of a 2 oz tasting). It's a great way to try a variety of things without having to commit. They have a small 'snack' menu, and while it's quite limited, everything we've ever had has been made with fresh, delicious ingredients. Keep in mind this is an actual bottle shop, so the atmosphere isn't quite what you'd expect from a traditional bar. read more
