Very uncomfortable place to live unless you stay inside all the time, don't ever need maintenance help and don't have kids. Would not recommend.

It's…read morean older complex & nothing super-fancy, but the neighborhood is quiet, people keep to themselves, prices are cheap, the manager is likable and really cares about how you're doing, and any issues (e.g. maintenance) are addressed pretty promptly. The only issue I've ever had is that the windows are crap and it gets FREEZING (and thus expensive) in the winter, but a few cheap thermal curtains addressed that issue. Good place for the money. =)

We were approved right away, and excited about our move to Lansing. Immediately we were told by the current downstairs neighbors there was an ongoing rodent problem. The neighbors essentially told us they had been listening to mice in the walls of the house since April when they moved in, and the company was actually having to pay to move the tenants elsewhere as a result. We began hearing the same noises right away, and my cat caught a mouse- but we were reassured time and time again the issue was being handled. That said, the downstairs neighbors insisted the house itself had been deemed unable to cohabit ate by one exterminator and encouraged us to keep our eyes and ears open. After the downstairs neighbors moved out, we began hearing individuals come into the apartment in the evenings. I complained about this, not understanding how this was happening, and the most which was done was that the manager- Sarah Frese- wrote a note to the squatters that the police would be informed. In fact, my boyfriend and I didn't understand how anyone was getting into the apartment, and so we went and checked the doors only to discover that weeks after our downstairs neighbors had been moved out, not only were the locks NOT changed on the main entry way doors, they were not changed on the downstairs apartment doors either. We locked the bottom locks of the downstairs apartment- and voila- no more squatters. We also found the mice issue was not immediately resolved, and not only that- we had a squirrel issue. Around October, after the squirrel issue was handled (and only discovered after coming home to a squirrel in front of my upstairs door way INSIDE) we got NEW neighbors. The new neighbors moved in with their trash bags in the middle of the evening. From the first evening the new neighbors were there, they began to cause havoc. The neighbors threw our laundry in the dryer on top of the dryer and onto the floor to make room for their own. They began immediately partying most nights of the week, blaring their music so loudly that our two children were waking up in our UPSTAIRS apartment over the sound of their fans. Pot smoke wreaked from stepping into the main entry ways, and the soon we were making phone calls to the non-emergency line four times a week, while simultaneously EMAILING Sarah each time. After we began contacting the police due to the noise complaints, the neighbors began harassing us, screaming through the ceiling. Twice the lease holder verbally threatened me, both times in front of my five year old. At one point the neighbor saw my ten year old daughter in the window, and began threatening her as well. I requested the name of the girl on the lease to attempt to get a PPO for my children and myself, and Sarah refused that info stating confidentiality. In the last days of our stay in the apartment, the police complained to us about how often the noise complaints were happening. The police told us the management company should be resolving these issues, and I informed the police I had been emailing for three months, and my manager had told me there was almost nothing she could do, and to continually call the police if we had issues. I told the cops I agreed that they have better things to do, and actually gave the management companies number per their request because they found it so shocking that a manager at a management company would rather have tenants getting visited by cops then simply taking care of the issue themselves. The morning after our next and last noise complaint, the downstairs neighbor- Lauren Velez- poured bleach into a load of our laundry, destroying everything in our laundry- including my sons bedding, and a good handful of our clothing. I have had to file a police report for vandalism, and Sarah has once again said there is nothing she can do It is now January and we have moved out of the apartment. The neighbor Last week- the 27th- our neighbors received their FIRST lease violation for NOISE. This is DESPITE three months of emails about the noise, pot smoke, cigarette smoke, verbal threats of physical harassment, and vandalism of our things. This company is a trumped up version of an old slum lord. Not only would i NOT recommend this company, but i would LOVE for the management company as a whole to be entirely cleared out if not taught some normal, functioning practices. Gillepsie Group seems okay in taking advantage of poor people.

Some people in Lansing think it's rent is on the pricer side but compared to other places outside of town, I don't think it's that much more than seen elsewhere. Besides all the things mentioned above, the grounds are kept up, their maintenance team has been great and everyone in the office is friendly and willing to help. It is located in an area that I'll call on the fringe for Lansing...more or less, an area that's on the verge of flipping to nicer houses and storefronts, it's just a matter of whether it will take a couple years or many more since we're in Michigan. Me, I kinda like a little grit but if you don't, fear not, the Lansing Police Dept has a satellite office right around the corner. I've never encountered anything out of the ordinary of city living. It seems like the majority of people living here are mid 20 somethings going to Cooley Law School downtown. And I"m more than ok with this. You still get young people around, just minus the 4am keggers.

He is genuinely concerned about completing maintenance requests in a timely fashion and always checks to be certain that the resident is satisfied with the work he performed. I'll start by saying that I used to love living here, but it is getting worse. I love the space,…read morethe garden space and patio, the carport, the washer and dryer in the basement, and the quiet neighborhood. It is also close to everything I need. That being said they do have their issues. The biggest problem is parking. There are enough parking spaces for every place to have two spaces, but they will only give me one because everyone's name needs to be on the lease. They say they try to be "fair" and dole them out on a case by case basis. I would think the fair way would be to give each place two spots and leave out the judgment calls, but that's me. If I had said I bought myself a second car, apparently it would have been fine. So there is no overnight guest parking since parking isn't allowed on the street overnight and Cambria threatens all of the time to ticket and tow cars. Spots sit open instead. I've lived here for a few years and never had a problem with parking until this year. They seriously expect people to park at Arbor Glen miles from here. I've seen that lot. There are several nights that it is full. So that option is totally not realistic. If you have any sort of life, I'd avoid this place. And my neighbors are incondiderate of space. My previous neighbors were fine, but not so much anymore. They are inconsiderate and don't know the meaning of white parking lines. I always said I didn't want to move from here anytime soon, but I have found the one thing that will make me move to a new place - very poor parking. More students are moving in so I'm concerned whether the quiet environment will remain, but I'm hoping they are graduate and/or quiet students since noise does carry a bit especially if the windows are open. Most of the time maintenance is quick. One time the office was slow to submit a maintenance request. There was also this one time that it took them months to fix my ceiling fan and while it works now it does make this clanking noise all of the time that is irritating when I'm trying to sleep. The basement also gets leaks in the spring snow melt and when we get a lot of rain. They say there isn't much they can do. Oh I also have too many spiders. They said they could spray but spraying doesn't do much for spiders because their bellies don't touch the ground/poison. So I passed since I'd rather not have the chemicals if it doesn't work well. The building is old and it shows. However, they have been working to improve things. They have replaced the windows and added insulation in the attic. I wish they would replace the doors -- the doors going outside would be a priority since I can feel the cold air coming in around the edges during the winter, but some of my inside doors don't close tightly. I'm not very impressed with the staff. They can be nice. However, they are rigid to their current rules and threatening ticketing and towing all of the time. Sometimes I've had to deal with staff at the Arbor Glen office (who manage our property) that don't know much or have given me incorrect information, but I've learned to contact supervisors. The lighting in the back is not good. Lights don't turn on very often so it can be dark back there. That being said I haven't had any problems. The grounds are okay. They do upkeep things. The mow regularly, but some bushes in the front are overgrown and invade the sidewalk space especially when covered with snow. Overall, this could be an okay place to live if they were more fair with parking rather than harassing residents. I've lost my desire to live here. I won't stay some place where it is inconvenient and a pain to live, and I *hate* moving.

There are so many much more expensive options in this area, so its nice that college students can still get the experience & location at a price they can afford as a student. Although its an older building and doesn't have all of the amenities that some of the luxury apartments have, they figured out how to make choices based on needs vs wants. Management was always responsive and friendly, remembering us by name at move in/out, and anytime we'd run into him inbetwen. Overall, I'd recommend it to anyone for an affordable place with a great location.

And you CANNOT beat the location! I never had to walk more than 15 minutes to get to class or to go to the library. It's right in the middle of everything. Close to all the restaurants when you want to grab a bite to eat. Close to several coffee shops if you want to study outside of your apartment. And most importantly, it's RIGHT above the bars. So when you want to go out with friends or have friends over before going out, it's super convenient. Also, my utilities were always very low as heat was included and I only had to pay for internet, electric, and gas. Something else that really sets this apartment above the rest is staff. It's one guy that operates and maintains the apartments, Ed. But he is always on top of things. I've known so many friends that have lived at big apartment complexes and whenever they had a problem with something, it took months to be addressed and/or for someone to come fix it. With Ed, all you have to do is call and he'll fix whatever it is as soon as possible. The ONLY complaints I have about this apartment are the parking and the laundry. There isn't parking offered for the tenants or their guests at all. If your friends live close by, if you don't have a car, and/or if you rarely use your car this won't be an issue for you. But if you want a car and use a car often it's quite the hassle. There a lot a couple blocks away at which Ed can get you a parking pass for. And it's not much at all to park there each month. I did that during the warmer months. And then during the winter, I paid the higher price to park at the various garages downtown East Lansing. And in regards to the laundry, there is no washer and dryer in the unit or in the building. So you'll have to go over to a friends or go to a laundromat to do laundry. Other than the parking and laundry situations though, I would highly recommend these apartments to anyone!

It is an older building, so there were maintenance issues from time-to-time, but the landlord is extremely accessible. He answered every call, even in the middle of the night, and was always prompt in response. Apartments are kept clean and well-maintained, and the landlord will notify well in advanced if he has to enter your apartment for any reason. There is plenty of space and fantastic features such as a dishwasher and garbage disposal. I truly loved my time living here, and I would recommend it to anyone who is interested!

The location is prime for the pice, you literally can't get closer for cheaper in East Lansing. Our unit was the smallest one in the building, but we really made it charming. The parking around the area can be tricky, but the rates for spots on the building are less than the other garages nearby. Even though the building is old, a lot of the appliances inside are updated and modern. The bathrooms are beautiful and the kitchen looks new. While yes there were some moments when the older building came into play, the landlord was there efficiently to fix things. The apartment above us flooded one time (and on a holiday too) and the landlord was there within the hour to help us dry our floors and provide assistance. If there were any other issues, I could very easily call or text him and would get a fast reply. I could not recommend this place enough, Masonic Temple Apartments will always hold a special place in my heart.
